White House says US mission in Syria coming to 'rapid end'

Recommended Posts

The White Hous said on Wednesday that the United States mission in Syria to eradicate the Islamic State "is coming to a rapid end."

"The military mission to eradicate ISIS in Syria is coming to a rapid end, with ISIS being almost completely destroyed," The White House statement said. "The United States and our partners remain committed to eliminating the small ISIS presence in Syria that our forces have not already eradicated."

The annoucmemt came shortly after the Washington Post reported that President Trump instructed military leaders during a meeting on Tuesday to begin planning the withdrawal of troops from the war-torn, Middle Eastern nation.

why would Assad do that ? What's in it for him ?

Why would someone else to it to blame Assad and the Russians? What's in it for them.

Think for once

Why would Assad who has done it before donit again? Its because its what he does.

Even Trump is calling out Assad and even Putin a bit (of course before he pulls the predictable crap and blames obama).

I guess if Obama had stood behind his Red Line we wouldn’t be talking about this.

Exactly

Yes...its Obamas fault that Trump talked tough and lobbed a couple mussels at an airport last year (an airport they quickly fixed and kept using). And now hasnt this going on.

But yeah...all Obamas fault.

And that we are fighting ISIS is a great thing...look the other way for gassing his own people?

Pathetic

so you want us to take out Assad, but are the same people who thought going into Iraq and taking out Saddam was bad

Maybe...and taking out Saddam as we did wasnt a great thing given the power vacuum it created.

So in your opinion, what should Trump do? I haven't seen your opinion on it outside of Trump bad. If the U.S. stays and tried to remove a Russian backed Assad, then it creates a power vacuum that Russia will control. Which you said is not great. IE your Iraq example.

If Trump withdraws, then Assad continues to gas his own people. Which you think we should be trying to stop somehow. Where's the beloved NATO? Where are other countries forces? You know, the ones you're always worried Trump will offend and alienate? The ones who get America to do their dirty work.

So. What exactly should Trump be doing in your opinion? A straight answer would be appreciated. Tia.

Good thing Im not President or Sec of State. I dont have to come up with what to do.

Probably not buddying up with Purim (did he also complain about previous admin announcing withdrawal of troops and did the same)?

Probably not tweet threats and blame others.

But again...Im it the President or in charge of what to do.

Like he was free to criticize while a citizen...I am as well.

And yes NATO and the UN should be more heavily involved. Perhaps rather than insulting those institutions...Trump should try working with them?

Of course you're free to criticize, but your criticizing every option. Leave Syria you criticize. Stay and fight you criticize. The last I checked, the UN can act without Trump or the U.S. asking them to do so. Right?

If you're going to criticize every option/decision, then have an opinion of your own. You know, so people can see what you believe in or stand for. It's easy to criticize with no beliefs/opinion of your own to be scrutinized.

Where have I done that?

As for your last line...Trump is learning that its a harder job than just tweeting about the President as he used to.

If you criticized leaving Iraq in a power vacuum, then I assume you would do the same if we ousted Assad. Right? If we leave then you criticize if Assad continues to gas his own people. Right? This is what I'm saying. You offer no opinion, but criticize both options.

So I'll ask once again. What should the U.S. do with Syria? This way we have your opinion on the subject. Don't deflect to Trump and his tweets. Don't deflect to Trump and Russia. Don't deflect to Trump learning how hard it is to be president. Just simply your opinion.

90% chance this was a CIA attack.

Trump announces we are pulling out of Syria.

Truce announced between Assad and ISIS/rebels.

Deep state gets irate.

Gonna do what they do.

It looks like the Dems will get to keep their war, even sets up nicely for a war with Russia.

his only opinion is to wait til there is a decision and bash it, we all know that

then when we say something later he can say he never said the opposite and ask for a link, which will lead to him again never picking sides, but us all knowing what he actually is

I think Iraq and Syria are quite a bit different situations first of all. So the power vacuum inthe area with Iraq isnt the same as of Assad is removed. However...Putins supportof Assad makes ousting him quite complicated.

I dont think its either leave or oust him as the only two port...which is why I said I have not criticized both options (because I didnt).

My opinion...as long as he is gassing people we cant just pull out. We need to work with Nato and others so its isnt just us bs Assad and Putin.

That doesnt mean stay forever...it doesnt mean oust Assad.

What is your opinion of what we should do?

Dont deflect...if you need my options (despiteme not being president or having foreign policy experience)...surely you can give yours as well.

i don't think it's a conspiracy to look at this logically,

There is absolutely nothing good that could come for Assad or the Russians by doing this. To believe they did, don't you want a least a very minimal good reason why?

Anyone have a logical reason why they would do this ? Other than "because" ?

Don't our intelligence agencies have quite a history of misleading and lying ?

What logical reason is there to claim the CIA did it?

There is no logic in Ricks conspiracy theories or denying Assads past doing just this and what he has done specifically in this area.

And you talking logic is always funny too.

We need to pull out of Syria. It is not possible to win a war in the middle East.

There is no point in removing assad from power. Even though he is a horrible human being removing him from power will not improve the lives of anyone in the middle East.

It is a no win situation, let Russia waste their resources if they want to fight in the middle East.

US just announced they are leaving, after a year of bombing the out of his enemies (rebels, ISIS, etc)

Name one logical reason why Assad would do something like this right now.

Occam's razor says this was CIA.

In theory, Id love the US to get out of the ME and let countries like Saudi Arabia do more to keep their own region stable.

What worries me by leaving Syria, is were opening the door for Iran to complete their land route directly into Lebanon, in preparation of the war they want to wage against Israel. It also allows Russia to further set-up shop in the Mediterranean, which is just bad news for all of our Western allies.

yep, but just so happens Assad likes us there so he gassed his own people to keep us there. He wants us to stay and remove him from power.

You have not posted a logical thing in this board when it comes to anything political.

The guy has gassed his own people before...have been bombing the crap out of this area in recent history.

With the US pulling out and backing of Iran and Russia will gave zero consequence (like always).

But you wont ever see that.

You know, the fun thing about Trump is there's a tweet for every occasion. When it was clear that Assad head cross the red line? Trump sent off a series of all-caps tweets to Obama. Here's what he said.

Again, to our very foolish leader, do not attack Syria. If you do many very bad things will happen and from that fight that us gets nothing! Do not attack Syria, fix USA!

That's your boy Trump the foreign policy wizard. You're mad at Obama for not responding but Trump is the one who sent off a series of all-caps tweets saying don't respond?!

Hmm
