Wahoo Jim - Question on fishing

Recommended Posts

Lately I have been catching kings, cobia, state snapper and state triggerfish.

I would like to go out a little farther this weekend.

On the way out and back I will be stop and fish some bait balls to see if I can get some bonito and I will be fishing the weedlines for dolphins.

But I would like to either catch some wahoo, blackfin, or grouper. I can go offshore about 30 miles.

I am not asking for a secret fishing spot, but if you know that 1-2 of the following is worse than the others I would appreciate any help. I am misspelling all of the spots so they do not appear in a search engine.

bucaneer reef

bucaneer wreck

whos yer daddy

shrim.p boat wreck

prime tim.e wreck

The thirty toos

sail.fish wreck

j shrmp boat wreck

out look w.reck

glory b

red mountai.n

Like I said, any help would be appreciated, and if you ever need a couple state water snapper spots I can help you out. The state water limit is 4 a day and there is no season.

You just have to go really slow. It probably helps if she's drunk.

Yes, i still plan on it, but I am not sure when. I still have not replaced the axles on my trailer, and I want a few trips out to 30 miles under my belt.

I definitely want to fish with you, because we can get into bluefins within 30 miles of venice.

You have the gear for that? Yellowfins are in play as are amberjacks.

I might have us geared in for a night bow trip out of Port Sulphur for reds that week. Let me know your exact dates when you'll be here.

I went tuna fishing out of Ocean City MD, on a charter with two other guys. We were mostly trolling. Then the mate brings out a package of clams. I am like :shocking:. No tuna in the world ever ate a clam (I thought). Turns out there have been these clam dredging ships along the east Coast for over a hundred years. There is a clam dredger in sight and we pull up close and he baits me up. I was hooked up in no time! A one hour and fifteen minute battle for a 96 pound blue fin.

MT, sorry man, I was playing in a 4-day poker tourney and didn't check the site. I haven't fished offshore TX in many, many years and have no direct knowledge of the spots. I would be more help out of Venice. I hope your trip went well.

I may take you up on your offer for state snapper. We don't even fish Venice during snapper season any more because it's not worth the fuel to catch 2 ARS and maybe a handful of mangroves. We usually only go in the early spring to target wahoo and YFT, then in the fall to target shrimp boat tunas, cobias and tripletail. I have caught a few ARS (big ones, 20 lbs+) and had to release them (to die in the mouths of sharks) while jigging for grouper, but haven't put an ARS in the box in forever. If you get the cobia completely figured out and can find them reliably, let me know.

Catching wahoo this time of year is pretty tough. Mostly gonna be weedline/rip fish and usually only VERY early in the morning.

PM on its way
