Bear Fans, Is Forte For Real?

The only concern with Forte is going to be the rookie bubble. I am not sure I would want my fantasy season resting on a guy with his workload in a rookie season. There is a typical fall off with rookies after week 10. Not all but enough for it to be a factor. As you head into the playoffs, you may see his production drop from his average. I would take a hard look at his schedule if he keeps up the # of touches through the rest of this season.

    Ronnie Brown

Counting on Ricky Williams to be your featured back is a mistake too big from someone with the Tuna's experience to make. Sitting a player who was on pace to be the #1 RB in the league on a team every defensive coordinator in the league knew was going to run the ball first, is a mistake. Ronnie had a terrible injury to a knee that will take a year to recover from. Expect a slow start and a strong finish. 2009 will be a good year as the Tuna's changes start to take affect.

2008 Dynasty Rookie Draft (4 rounds)

Well, if you are not playing with a salary cap and contracts, you're not playing dynasty. Without those components, it's just some variation of keeper.

    IDP Rookie draft

Got you. Our salaries are purely performance based. We use multipliers based on FF points scored in the previous seasons with an injury exception in which case we use an average seasonal production. The rookies come in at a flat rate which drops with each pick until the minimum is met after round 2 is complete. Rounds 3-4 come in at the league min.

So you are saying that Rookie RBs have a premium placed on them? So a WR selected 1.5 would cost less than a RB? That seems odd.

Thanks but I am pretty familiar with the dynasty concept. But this isn't a situation, like APAD and Chester Taylor, where the rookie is going to come in and blow the doors off the incumbent. FWP is signed to a very manageable contract for two more years. The Steelers wanted to add to the RB stable but probably didn't have Mendenhall in their sights thinking he would be gone. When he fell to them, they took him because he was the best value on a short list of needs. There is no point in carrying a #3 or 4 salary for 3 years before it starts to pay dividends. That is the kind of crap that gets you in cap trouble.

2008 Dynasty Rookie Draft (4 rounds)

I think you might be right. I traded up to get the 5th pick and took Kevin Smith over Forte but I think the two are very close. (there was an IDP pick at 4) The tipping point for me was that Smith will not have to achieve much to be named the starter. The Bears may be down on Benson but they are still paying him a hell of a lot of money. I don't think he will just drop off the face of the earth in favor of the rookie. At worst Benson will fall back to the load share that he had with Thomas Jones a few years ago which was about 60/40 to 70/30ish. Some where in that range. And despite the better talent, I am not sure why folks are taking Mendenhall over either of these guys. I can't think of a worse situation for him fantasy wise. The best you can hope for is a 50/50 split between FWP and Mendenhall. And that really isn't worth cracking your line-up to make room for him on Sunday.

    Dynasty Draft, Top 25

Regardless of where you put them on your list, you have to put Smith above Forte on the list of RBs because Smith will be the #1 guy from day one. Benson has at least proven that he can share the role when he did so with Thomas Jones. The best Forte fans can hope for is to share carries. That and the salary the Bears are paying Benson will force them to play him to at least showcase him for trade opportunities.

The Bears have a new number 1 offensive weapon!

Berrian got more money than Moss. Something in seriously wrong in the NFL when you can say Moss was looking for Berrian money. The Bears don't play that game. If Grossman has a strength, it is throwing the deep route. If Berrian has a weakness, it is catching the deep route. MN fans will become frustrated with Berrian but if anything, he will take some coverage to his side of the field. Sidney Rice is a great sleeper this year in the middle rounds. With 8 in the box to stop the run, Rice stands to see a lot of single coverage and should blossom as a deep threat this season. As far as Jackson, c'mon, how good does he have to be? If the Vikings had a serious TE threat, he would be looking at strong numbers this year.

    Let me get this straight...

Tommy Kelly had a sack last year. You're not going to get that kinda talent for free.
  12. My_Dixie_Normus

Looks like Briggs re-signed with the Bears

Walker is a horrible signing unless he comes in on an incentive loaded contract. His knee and age are not worth paying big bucks for.
  13. Unfairly? Well, when you are selected #1 in the draft and refuse to play for that team, opt to play for a NY team with the NY media being what it is and generally come into the league sounding and acting like the 15yr old coaches son who thinks he is 10x the player he actually is, you get what ever comes your way. Then when you fail to play well, make a dumbfounded face like it's the other guy's fault for the INT you just threw, that just compounds the problem. Perhaps the guy is the nicest guy in the world and by all accounts his father is an overbearing ###### of a father. But I wouldn't recommend my son look up to him as a man. He is.... a little puss, to be honest.

Just finished Tony Dungy's "Quiet Strength"...

About the only thing that I would be curious about is how he rationalized the death of his son with the time he devotes to his career. I am not familiar with the details of his son's death and I am not trying to make a judgment here. Just curious if he felt the time he spent away from his family was a contributing factor.

    Cowboys fans are pissed.

Please. Anything that rips the Cowboys is much funnier.
