Smack me to reality

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am feeling way too confident this year in my league. I am on my way to 6-0 already winning this week by 22 pts. with TY Hilton still to play. My team seems to be the best I have ever had and I am getting to excited. I know injuries can decimate a team. However, I am really set at depth as well. The one team that I had competition from is on their way to 5-1 but lost their QB, Aaron Rodgers. I feel like I am getting too confident and excited, anyone that has horror stories with relation to this? Dominating their league and having the worst happen? Feel like this would be a fun way to smack me to reality.

If you were curious about my team:

QB: Tom Brady, Jared Goff

WR: Dez Bryant, Keenan Allen, TY Hilton, Kelvin Benjamin

RB: L. Bell, L. Fournette, Carlos Hyde, Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore

TE: Jimmy Graham, Kyle Rudolph

DEF: New England (Switch every week)

K: C. Boswell

Easy, both Bell and Fournette could break a leg, maybe even Brady. Then you would be running with Jared Goff, Hyde, and Peterson for playoff. I don't see you have their handcuff. You feeling lucky!?!

Of course that will be rare, but tell that to someone that has Aaron Rogers, David Johnson and Dalvin Cook.

At one league, I have Winston, David Johnson, Zeke, Hunt, Cook, Edelman, and Sanders. Thought I would be unstoppable, until week after week, one go down after another.

Honestly, I hope you win it. But at this point, I don't expect it. Because this year, the perception of top team in my league already changed many time.

See that's what I needed, haha. Sorry to hear about the Rogers, Johnson and Cook thing. My other team I had Cook but that's the only injury hindering both of my teams so far. I am sure with the way injuries to have been going this year I will have more. Just nothing too serious I hope,

It's 95% luck so hope yours holds out

Haha, people always say that. I have always thought of it more 60% luck and 40% skill. I make the playoffs 9 times out of 10 and is usually the same people with some out liars one a year. If you keep up on the info and know your stuff you should be solid.

I might even move it to 50/50 luck/skill until playoff. That's why bench matters. I am still the highest point in the league with my whole starting line up decimated.

I will be rolling out Alvin Kamara, Cohen/Jones, Theilen, and Corey Davis to replace my lineup. It's definitely a huge downgrade, but still a fighting chance. Just need to limp into playoff, then all bets are off, it's almost all luck.

You just jinxed yourself. Good job dude.

Ah, sh.. I don't believe in that stuff so if it happens, it happens. Not because a fantasy football guy in middle nowhere America posted about it. Lol

Yes, I agree. I limped in the playoffs last year at 6-6. I won the whole thing...

Wrong. I live in Orange County, CA. My opinion matters way more than people in middle nowhere America. Ur team is officially focked.

Yep #1 rule, always be pessimistic in FF, because once you think you have it, it's gone.

All it takes is a crappy week in the first round of the playoffs. My best fantasy season ever that happened. I had the best record out of 24 teams and lost in the first round of the playoffs due to a crappy week from multiple players on my team. Didn't even have to do with injuries, just bad play. This is where luck really shows itself in fantasy football.

Just pray your opponent doesnt outscore you in the playoffs, thats all you can do. Start prepping, pick up a dst to use in playoffs.

Yeah, that's where the luck comes in because it's win or done so anything can happen. We shall see! DEF is my weakness.

I'm stuck in the longest steak of cold cards fantasy football wise I can remember. I'm actually started to get excited to see what new and totally out of left field focked up ways I find a way to lose each week.

This is our 12th year for the league I run... In that time there's only been two instances where the #1 regular season team has won our championship.

If you're 6-0 you can start planning for the playoffs. Which is handy

Congrats on your drafting skills. Better than mine. Your two runners are putting up crazy scores. You will be tough to beat.......barring injury or a very difficult matchup.

Here's a couple reality checks for you:

1. One year I assembled the best team ever. Steamrolled everyone in the regular season. Lost by 1 point in the championship when all my studs had a down game at once.

2. I was once winning a FF match-up (regular season) by 59 points. The only player the other team had left was Michael Vick. It was that game against the skins where he put up 60 points. I lost, and missed the playoffs by 1 game.

I recall a regular season game.

It was a Monday night game, I was down 28 points.

All I had left was J Taylor and they had no one.

Non ppr this is 1989 Niners vs Rams.

Taylor had something like 270 yards but he scored two tds that went for over 90 plus yards.

Now that was a fun time.

Yeah; I always like to see the draft positions or hear a bit of background of how a team like this is amassed. I presume that Bell was Rd1, then Hilton or Dez in Rd 2, the other Rd3 but did you get Fournette in the 4th ? Brady the 5th ? Allen in the 6th ? Benjamin in the 7th ? Did you make trades to make this team possible; it just seems that would be difficult to match some of those in a 10 or 12 team league. I hope it's not a Yahoo random league; my buddy always shows me those and seems to have some crazy combos like Brees/Bell/MGordon/Dez/TY . . . like 4 1st or 2nd rounders because of auto drafts and such.

Case in point; I just lost Rodgers whom I had drafted in the 4th round but last week I scooped up Alex Smith from Waivers . . . yes, the #1 overall ranked QB was sitting on the Wire in a league I have played in for years and feel that most of the owners are very knowledgeable. But we do have limited spots on our benches so it's not uncommon for someone to carry just 1 QB and no backup. I thought I might be able to use him as trade bait having he and Rodgers . . . . Wow, I got lucky I guess. The 10 starters that teams use each week are (Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Watson, Winston, Rivers, Mariota, Wentz, Cousins, Wilson) . . . so it's not like teams are hurting for a QB. One guy has Watson and Cam and plays Watson every week now of course.

Im in a 10 team 1 QB league. We have large benches because its only 10 teams. No reason to have small benches. We should probably be a 2 QB league but we do auction, player contracts, league investments and market investment shares based upon yearly finishes, etc... So things change slowly. ☺

I think with 10 teams 2 QBs is the better answer but if you have short benches and only 1 QB its the easiest position to fill via WW.

I remember that game. I had Vick and was down by a ton. Don't remember the specifics, but that performance was cray cray.

1) I was 5-8, lowest scorer in the league but made the cut for the playoffs. A 50pt dog to the 3 seed, the high-scorer by a mile. Almost doubled him up that week. (Thanks, Billy Volek!)

2) I was overall high scorer in the league with no one in sniffing distance. 6 times that year I faced the week's high scorer. Missed the playoffs entirely.

Lesson: no matter how good you think your lineup is, no matter how your opponent's team is perceived to be, the game is decided by the play on the field. You control who's in your lineup, but not in your opponent's, nor on how anyone performs.

That brings me to my question:

Haha, people always say that. I have always thought of it more 60% luck and 40% skill. I make the playoffs 9 times out of 10 and is usually the same people with some out liars one a year. If you keep up on the info and know your stuff you should be solid.

What "skill" exactly is at play, here? The 'skill' of 'guessing correctly'? 'Getting lucky'? 'Offering the right prayer to the right god'??

Why do you even play? You can always implement a second game each week against the league average. If it is so random why are you on this board?
