What's the nerdiest thing you have ever done?

Recommended Posts

I once founded the New York City Aquarium Society. Doesn't exist anymore.

Funny story, we took a field trip to this guys house in New Jersey, where he had this converted garage with lots of small tanks, with different saltwater animals. I could tell these guys were kinda ... whatever, thought I was full of shiat ... and they were smarter than me, and I was looking at a tank that had a Mantis Shrimp in it, and I said, "Cool! What kinda stomatopod is that?"

And this guy lit into me. "Stomatopod!? Aren't you supposed to be the President of this thing, and you don't know what a Mantis Shrimp is?"

I decided it was not worth the argument. It was before the age of smart phones. "Same thing." I think is what I said. But he went to his Compaq after I left, and Yahooed "stomatopod" and realized that he was actually the one that looked like a fool!

I also still have, my original collection of Star Wars cards that I collected as a kid in the 70's. I was a hardcore Star Wars nerd when I was 13. I admit it.

First Star Wars came out while I was on summer vacation in California, and I got to see it before my friends in Arizona. i was like, "This movie is way cool, dudes." and all my nerdy friends of course loved it.

Empire, I was like 12 made my Mom take me to opening day, and Return, first day, second showing, one a-hole friend of mine, who knew I loved Darth Vader saw me in line on his way out and said, "Darth Vader dies! And, he turns good first!"

And I was like:

First two were sooo good, why did Return have to suck so bad?

I used to have all the trading cards, for all three movies. Sold a bunch of them, just have my original set of blue cards now. And some original stickers, too.

I was a hardcore Star Wars nerd. My friends and I made a Star Wars RPG that was way better than D and D. We had played a game called Twilight 2000 that was more realistic. Like, if you get shot, you are gonna need some serious medical attention. Armor didn't make it harder for someone to hit you, it would make it harder for someone to do damage ... it was a good game.

My big character was Aldor. He went right into the Empire as a pilot and rose up the ranks quickly, eventually convincing himself that he was Darth Vader returned ... He became Aldarth ... and slowly, the dark side of the force overtook him. Cause I was like... Star Wars ... with no Darth Vader ... is gay. So, I reincarnated him.

Built another Death Star.

We incorporated other movies as well, Blade Runner, Alien.

We had a whole Bladerunner subplot, so you could start with a replicant and have a character that is good right away, but limited. Or, you could be a young cop for what we called The Corporare Sector Authority, or the CSA and if you could rise up the ranks and get a job as a replicant hunter, we called the gun from Bladerunner the "12mm Special" and it was illegal. Prohibited weapon in most sectors. Pretty much the only way to get one is buy one in the black market for the price of the Milenium Falcon ... or rise up the ranks of the CSA and abscond with the weapon. Fires only 2 shots. 12 MM rounds that are meant for stopping androids, rip humans apart.

We also made spaceships hard to afford, and you hafta dock them and shiat, and fuel them. You started as a character on a planet, owning nothing. No basic fighter space ship .... nuthin but yer basic laser pistol.

Nothing is nerdy anymore. Look around, all the cool things people age 18-35 say, do, talk about, play, they are all things from nerd culture. Memes, cat videos, wtf, pwnage, cool story bro, gtfo, everything ever said on this message board and said 10000 times a day on every message board, anything hipster, all new tv shows centered around young people its all based on nerd and video game/internet culture that was scoffed at 15yrs ago.

I got surgically implanted pointy ears and changed my name to Spock. Is that nerdy?

No, you can't. See my Friday night poker thread, I out-think people for a living, my friend.

I can't remember when I first played FF. It was before FFtoday existed, but over the internet, with random strangers for no money. Never had for the first 10 years a toilet bowl team, I was hooked right away. One of my early FF memories was this guy in my league, drafted Trent Green, Isaac Bruce and of course Marshal Faulk, and I guess it was Holts rookie year? Maybe, I dunno ... He had the Rams, and when Trent Green went down he had Warner. He crushed everyone.

I also remember, back in the day ... no WRs would ever go first round, and I still dont like taking one, I remember in one league, I dunno if everyone read the rules, but passing TDs were 6 points and I drafted Peyton Manning with the second pick. Huh? You are supposd to take a running back! ... Uh, no ... you didn't read the rules. I killed it. People hared me. I had Colston as a rookie in a Yahoo league where he was a TE/WR.

I'm coo coo for fantasy football.
