Recommended Posts

I'm tired of Cumcast.

Has anybody ever set this up?

Got it. Love it. Watch any movie and tv show out there. Even ones in theater. Got a set up for sports as well. If you get a fire stick or fire tv I suggest buying one that's loaded with The Beast load out. It's the next one I'm buying. It's got it all set up for sports, movies, the shows, live tv, etc.

Excellent. What can you tell me about it? How it works, etc.?

Specifically, is it better to use a fire stick or dedicate a PC for it? Can you record stuff from it as well (like a DVR)? IE..should I get a NAS device to attach to my network at home?

Kodi is a program where you can download different add ons to it. Such as Exodus which is where I go to watch all the movies and tv shows that come out. In some cases you can watch movies before they are released in the US. Which is what I did with the Revenant. You can't record anything on it. If you want to watch it on your tv a fire stick or fire tv would work just fine. It basically takes online sources and uses links from them to watch the movies

i have it, but the platform isn't reliable enough to cut cable... It can be a great experience or a frustrating one of dead links and choppy streaming.. you never know

What about NFL games?

Watched a bunch last season. Quality varies depending upon the stream, but if you want to watch every game for free, you can.

What if I went with a Netflix/Amazon/Hulu device AND Kodi? Ditch the cable?

I only really watch AMC, NFL network, Discovery and History channel. Friggin cable bill is $145/month with internet.

And if you try to unbundle internet you'll pay $100+, add that to all your streaming services and you don't end up saving much and have less content.

Kodi is awesome, but I dont use it. I am fine with Netflix, hulu and amazon prime subs and just paying for internet. I download torrents for illegal stuff and for nfl games I have a subreddit that links every game in hd including redzone channel. I either watch that on my ipad or I can stream from ipad to tv with an adaptor cable.

I will when season comes. I was posting links last year and telling some people about it. There is a sub r/nflstreams which is worth a look. The one I get my links from is a guy who made his sub private and I had to request to join. Sounds strange I know but check out the other one for now and we will see when season comes.

In the Sportsdevil bundle. I can't remember the exact add-on but all of them will stream NFL. The trick is hunting for a HD link. Also Youtube had some very good HD streams of the NFL. With 8 tvs, 8 Amazon fires and a lot of bandwidth you could have all the games going.

Yea that's the one I've got is the sports devil. Was wanting to make sure there wasn't another out there that worked good besides the one I have.

Phoenix has some good ones as well, but I have noticed that many of the streams are disappearing. There were more 6 months ago than there are today.

You can probably negotiate that down. Call em up and say you want to cancel, then they'll likely offer a package to keep you around.

you don't need Hulu, Amazon or Netflix once you have Kodi, you just need patience and know what you want to watch.

I suggest going with the Fire Box over the fire stick, simply because you can hardwire ethernet directly to it, and avoid streaming thru wifi

also the Box has a better processor and is much faster

Direct tv. Just threatened to leave, TV only, got the HBO package, 3 DVR's and NFL Sunday Ticket Max for 101 a month. Not the greatest, but I need that Sunday Ticket. Phone and Internet via cable company is 60. No bundle for direct tv available in my area.

I'll tell you why. I cherish my NFL Sundays. I go out 3-4 times a year, the rest I'm at home. My darling wife takes the kid out for most of the day, and I sometimes have the guys over. If I don't have it because one of these unauthorized methods go down, I will freak the f out, especially if I'm 6 beers in and can't drive to the bar. The dish went out once due to the weather, but it was early enough and I went to the bar. In the middlle of the day it would be a disaster. Some things you don't leave to chance.

I didn't have it go out 1 time, although if you game skip it can be an annoyance.

I have the StreamSmart box which I think is just basically a FireTv Box. Looking forward to trying it out on Sundays. Anybody try streaming the red zone channel?

Love Kodi, which is basically just the Exodus addon for me. You can also download shows, which i do to avoid buffering.

Two problems are sports and news. Sportsdevil usually has a link, although its never HD. Quality is poor.

I like to watch the news, CNN, BBC. The links work occasionally, but never consistent. Sometimes i just want to turn on the tv and select a show without spending 10 minutes trying to find a link that isnt dead.

I went back to cable a couple months ago because of this. My wife wants me to cancel becauese $40 per month isnt worth a couple of hours of watching news on the weekends

Yea I had Genesis stop working for me so I spent an entire day trying to figure out how to fix it only to find out it had been abandoned for Exodus. Once I downloaded that I was good

I would agree with this. You spend 30 minutes trying to find a feed that works and doesn't buffer every 5 seconds. I was hoping to get rid of Comcast also, but this hasn't been the way to do it. I will try Exodus.

I killed an hour on Saturday adding some new add-ons. Got Bravo for the wife, which worked pretty well. Reddit, which I didn't have for some reason, works great. A sports one that I haven't tried. I have said before, Live TV is the Holy Grail of internet streams. There is not much, but you need live TV for very little and most of that can be had with an antenna.
