Jerry Jones won't stop fighting owners in Roger Goodell talks

FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he will not back off the threat of suing the NFL and several other owners if the compensation committee comes to an agreement with commissioner Roger Goodell on an extension.
Jones was removed as an ad hoc member of the committee when he brought up the possibility of legal action. Goodell's contract is set to expire after the 2018 season. Jones denied that he has a replacement in mind for Goodell and added that he has never thought about replacing Goodell.
"He's served about 60 percent, roughly, 65 percent of this contract," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday. "He has 18 months left on there. We've got all the time in the world to evaluate what we're doing. We've got all the time in the world to extend him. We just need to slow this train down and have a lot of time to discuss the issues at hand in the NFL and have a good, fair input from all the owners, which we're not getting."
Jones said he has not received any cease-and-desist notices from the compensation committee. The New York Times reported Monday that the committee sent Jones a cease-and-desist warning after holding a conference call earlier in the day to discuss Goodell's potential extension.
Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, the chairman of the committee, said Monday in a statement that the committee was still working toward an extension for Goodell and disputed Jones' assertion that owners have been misled regarding "critical facts" about the negotiations.
"I speak to a lot of owners, and I know them to be really supportive of the idea of being able to, on their part, see what and guide and give input to the committee, particularly the chairman," Jones said. "And I have well over half this league that is very interested in not only being a part of what is negotiated but having it come back to them for approval."

Hey Jerrah.

Pay more attention to your own team. Alfred E. Neuman is one of the worst coaches in the NFL.

Cant wait for Sunday - I will be there! :pointstosky:

It's going to be ugly.... Stupid ass Red left Dak in the whole game in Atlanta - I hope to Gawd somebody tells him to pull Dak out of there after we are 28 down....which should be sometime around the 2nd quarter.

Divisional games are always tight and Dallas is at home playing for their postseason lives. But I like our odds after seeing how the Cowboys DL got abused by a mediocre unit like Atlanta.

Reportedly, he's asking for 50 million a year. I'm with Jerrah on this one.

This dude is a focking dipsh!t and the product is obviously in a downturn. Why the fock would they want to give him a raise?

I love this. Love the owners telling Jerry to shutup and know his place. Hes pushed around everyone in his life, but he's now going up against guys with as much money and power he has and is hitting a wall.

I'd LOVE it if they forced him to sell the Cowboys(which they have the power to do)

Keep it up Jerry. Keep it up.

Well if we can't get Chaz Green to quit playing like Chaz Bono it's gonna be a long day. :(

Force the guy whose franchise makes more money than any other to support Goodell?!?!?!? That sounds like a good move........if you run an NFL franchise in Ohio or Michigan.

Ive got to think after last week theyre going to give him a TE / RB on that side if hes starting again right? Dallas really needs to establish the run in this one. If not theyll be doing a lot of max protect and Im not sure Dez and whoever are game breakers anymore.

I expect the Eagles to win but Im not counting on a blowout just due to desperation on Dallass part.

Jerry Jones knows how to make money better than every other owner in the league. Goodell the man driving ratings into the toilet, not so much. The only people that would get rid of an owner that makes huge money are the idiots that run the Lions (Michigan), the Browns (Ohio) and the Bengals (Ohio). ie sh!t franchises.

I'm hoping Smith is healthy enough to play and Green can spell him, if necessary. Otherwise, yeah, they're going to have to give him some help.

Wouldnt a long suffering Eagles fan NOT be expecting a blowout?

If the eagles play the patriots in the SB we should have Digby and MDC write essays on their favorite teams. The ups and downs, favorite all time players, special moments. Well, maybe not an essay. More like a paragraph.

The idea of Jones being forced to sell his team is laughable. Some people are making a very powerful enemy.

Skeletor will beat the Turd.

Depends. The owners are a billionaire club. You probably wont find 32 bigger egos in any room.

I could see a large contingent tired of jerry and his sh!t. Who knows. Will be fun either way.

I honestly believe they should come up with some sort of mandatory retirement age when it comes to sports franchise owners.

Grrr

I've been a Lions fan for all my life and have only seen one playoff win (1991- don't need to look it up) in my life. And I can and I have handled that this entire time. So far as football goes, fans, management, and players are all on board. You just endure that.

What I can't handle is having the most kneeler-friendly owner in football (if there's one worse, I don't know of them). Our black head coach had had his entire team standing for the national anthem until things blew up earlier this year, bless Jim Caldwell for that, but the owner doesn't give a ###### about the flag or the fans that are disgusted with the kneeling.

With Jerry, he likes the spotlight on himself. As a non-Cowboy fan, I'd weigh that usually more bad than good, but still better him than the Fords who are so passive that they gave Matt Millen seven years until he went 0-16 and forced them to get rid of him. Anyway, in today's NFL, I'm glad Jerry's there doing what he's doing. I'm rooting for the guy big time on this.
