Djgb13 2,338 Posted August 14, 2018 How often do you travel and go on vacation? Even if its just for a few days. Ive noticed a lot of people hardly ever go on vacation much less travel when they do have the time to take a vacation. For me it varies but I do make an effort to go somewhere even if its only a few hours away to relax and recharge my batteries so go speak. Even if its once a year, I think its necessary to take a trip somewhere so I make sure to do so.

tanatastic 2,061 Posted August 14, 2018 As much as possible, couple times a year. Living in SoCal there’s also great staycation options as well like Palm Springs and Vegas.
Bert 1,087 Posted August 14, 2018 If you count 3 & 4 day trips as vacation, 5 or 6 times a year. If you count tacking on a couple of days before or after a conference 7 or 8.
Djgb13 2,338 Posted August 14, 2018 Staycations are awesome... No doubt they are. However, its one of the things Ive noticed a lot of people do. Instead of actually traveling for vacation, people will just stay home which limits them from enjoying themselves to the fullest

Kanil 519 Posted August 14, 2018 I'd say 4 or 5 times a year but two of those times are ski vacations 2 hours from my house so I'm not sure that counts.

As long as youre not at home or staying at home. Like I said, even if its just a few hours away from home its still good to travel and take a vacation. Ill be going back to Asheville in October. Wife and I love the fall colors there, will be taking both dogs so we can go on nature hikes and seeing the waterfalls there, will be going to apple orchards, etc. Plus, when I finish school Ill be applying to jobs up there cause both of us love it. Will check out the Biltmore while there as well. We are renting a small cabin in the mountains so we can go right out the front door and go hiking. Lot of stuff to do while we are there and since we are going to try and move there we want to explore it a bit more than we did last time. Plus theres a nice sour beer brewery and a cidery that we both moved and will be going back to. Got a couple videos of last time we went of my lab going down Sliding Rock which is like a natural water slide in the mountains really funny and she enjoyed it
bandrus1 413 Posted August 14, 2018 We travel a lot. I spend about 6 weeks a year traveling thats work but more of a vacation. We spend a lot of our summer weekends at family lake house. We stay with our friends in NYC for the weekend rather often and also travel for concerts and things of that nature. 3 long weekend fishing trips a year with the guys I am not a home body, I need to be out doing things and going places or else I get a lot of anxiety

Mr. Hand 482 Posted August 14, 2018 I'll be at a conference in Palm Springs in October. I like to use airbnb or VRBO when I travel if it works. I am staying in a one bedroom condo in Palm Springs on a golf course and it was almost half of what the hotel would have been for the conference.
supermike80 1,285 Posted August 14, 2018 I travel a lot so wife and I can usually go somewhere every year, essentially for free. Flight, Parking, Hotel, Rental car are covered. So we will schedule one vacation week in the spring.

Yeah that is good in theory but when the classes and social events are at the hotel it is much easier to stay at the hotel.

We went to camleback this summer and it was enjoyable even with rather decent sized crowd Great wolf was our first one. Friends have told me camelback and the Kalahari are better. It was ok, food sucks don't eat there, go out in town . I slipped away for a coupe of hours and went to the casino nearby. Not that great, but I wasn't drinking so that factors in. Lots of fat women in bikinis with tatoos. Going to try the Kahlahari this winter.
bandrus1 413 Posted August 14, 2018 Kahlahari is too expensive.. we did the normal outdoor park at Camleback... Kahlahari is something ridiculous like $400 a night.. just not worth it for 2 of us

bandrus1 413 Posted August 14, 2018 exactly... we are not cheap either but that place just doesnt seem worth it... scope out the prices. It will make your eyes pop out your head. I think weekdays are more in the 200 to 250 range which is slightly more reasonable
Bert 1,087 Posted August 14, 2018 Do you have kids? I did nothing but try to keep the 1 year old happy the whole flight. But there are times that there is nothing you can do. We only have a few more flights like that, as soon as soon as they can use a tablet they are good. Benadryl. Everyone on the plane thanks you.

penultimatestraw 473 Posted August 14, 2018 Probably 3-5 week-long trips a year: a couple skiing, a couple climbing, and a hiking trip. We rarely go on urban vacations, though we travel once a year to a medical conference in a big city. ETA If you include short staycations its several more, as we stay at Turtle Bay every year, will hang out with friends on the N Shore a couple weekends and occasionally go to the neighbor islands.

titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted August 15, 2018 Three trips a year. In October, we get a week off with weekends on either end. That is the short trip each year. In February, we get a month off. That is the big trip of the year. Last year was Thailand and Laos. This year, either gonna do Morocco or Israel I think. Will throw some Egypt into the Israel if I can get the wife a visa. Then in the summer we get about a month and a half. This is usually used to visit family. This year, we did the wedding thing and wandered about the Philippines a bit. Hoping to do a trip back to the states next summer, show her some of the country, see my family, etc.

jerryskids 5,172 Posted August 15, 2018 A few times a year. Every summer we have historically gone to visit my wife's family in the Yoop of Michigan for 7-10 days. They sold their place a few years ago tho, so two years ago we tried a rental on the outer banks of NC (awesome) and this past July/August we went to SW Michigan for our niece's wedding (mentioned in another thread recently, also awesome but with closer proximity to other relatives). We're looking into going back there next summer. Otherwise it is event-specific. Christmas is at our house this year so we won't be traveling, but we are heading to Napa/Sonoma in October for our 25th wedding anniversary. Honestly, my biggest vacation regret is that we focus our trips so much on going back to family that we don't get to explore AZ. Our kids (youngest 17) have never seen the Grand Canyon, nor houseboated on Lake Powell.
