Patrons of Indian Casinos.

Crap, I was almost to the end of the posts and hadn't seen this one yet. :wall:

I almost got thrown out of an Indian Casino once for not smoking. :(

directly outside of any hospital; patients stand outside in their hospital gowns pushing their i.v. drip while smoking.

I just wanted an opinion.

My opinion:

Prisons. Seriously. How many people in prison with 10+ year sentences DO NOT smoke? How many in prison for violent crimes would you say do NOT smoke?

Indian Reservations. How many native americans would you guess are non-smokers?

The "poor". Of course this group contains many of those in the above mentioned groups, but you see more people in get out of rusted out busted up sh1t banger cars that are smoking than you do other average or above vehicles.

Reservations aside, wouldn't stats like this be a good "anti-smoking" campaign? We've already tried the health issue campaign. Maybe a different angle..... "If you smoke, you are more likely to end up in jail or drive a sh1tty car, or be downright poor" would carry some weight with those not affected by the the "health reasons" angle.

So you think people will respond more to the threat of becoming poor or going to jail, despite the decision to smoke having little influence on these variables, rather than targeting their health, which it does directly impact? Bad choices contribute to all the factors you mention, except the native Americans. Smoking may be a surrogate marker for a bad decision-maker, but it doesn't cause bad decisions. It is an escape from them in many cases, a compensatory pleasure for an otherwise sh!tty life.
