I'm picking my keepers..Would appreciate your opinions

Recommended Posts

Here is my team at the end of last season. (10 team) I have to pick a starting roster to keep for this year. The guys in bold are the guys I plan on keeping. What do you guys think?

1-QB, 2RB, 3WR/TE, 1K, 1D Performance league, but no PPR. I also, through a series of trades, have the number one overall pick. I am thinking of taking Bush with that pick as a way to build for the future. I think I'll still be able to get Housh in the draft, and one of those 3 non-kept RB's also.

Brunell, Mark WAS QB

Roethlisberger, Ben PIT QB

Jones, Kevin DET RB - 8 FA

Martin, Curtis NYJ RB - 9 FA

McAllister, Deuce NOS RB

Portis, Clinton WAS RB

Taylor, Chester MIN RB

Chambers, Chris MIA WR

Harrison, Marvin IND WR

Horn, Joe NOS WR

Houshmandzadeh, T.J. CIN WR

Moss, Randy OAK WR

Rogers, Charles DET WR

Miller, Heath PIT TE

Feely, Jay NYG PK - 4 FA

Graham, Shayne CIN PK

Falcons, Atlanta ATL Def

Definitely looks like you're keeping the best of the lot. The only one that could go either way is Deuce over Jones. At least with Deuce you've got a more proven commodity and if (big if) both he and Brees are healthy then you'll have a RB in what should prove to be one of the leagues more prolific offenses. Just to play devils advocate for a moment though, most backs don't do so well the first year removed from knee surgery and Deuce has managed to put together consecutive seasons where he's missed games as well as missing most of his rookie year several years back. The concern with him when he came into the league was whether or not he would stay healthy as he also suffered injuries in college. In a keeper league it wouldn't be too crazy to think about sticking with Jones and hoping he can mature with his offense whereas Deuce may turn out to have only a few more years left since each injury does take its toll and he's had more than a few. Tough call either way so you gotta go with your gut on this one.

Thanks, Sharkie. As far as Duece goes, here is what I was thinking. I have a better chance of picking up K. Jones in the draft than I would Duece. So, I figured I would keep Duece and take my chances with picking up another RB in the draft. Possibly Jones.

I'm taking Bush with my first pick, so I'll have both N.O RB's, I'll play whoever they decide to start.

Thanks for the advice.

Good strategy with Bush, you got it right with your keepers. I have seen Deuce going two full rounds later the K Jones though so be careful.

I concur. Since you are guaranteed Reggie Bush, I'd go ahead and keep Deuce.

Under all other circumstances, I'd keep KJ.

However, I will say that you should strongly consider packaging Housh/Horn with KJ/Deuce/Ben to try and get a better RB/QB.

Housh or Horn would likely make an excellent WR3 or even a good WR2 on somebody's team, and if they're RB/QB heavy, it may be a good deal for both.

You're right. I have shopped Horn and Housh around a bit. I think I may have a couple takers, I just need to find out who I want on their teams. I have accumulated several draft picks via trades last year, so while we have an 8 round draft, I will be finished picking after round 5. I think I have 1st, 2nd, 2-3rds, 2-4ths, 2-5ths (plus I still have a 6th and 8th that I won't need, but others may want)

So, I have plenty of negotiating to do.

Roethlisberger....I don't like for a keeper, but between him and Brunell I would keep him. Brunell will prolly have a better year, but he is more injury prone and most likely will only play a year or two more.

Your three wr's are no brainers....great wr's to keep.

Kicker is a no brainer as well

defense...tough one there.

As for the rb's.

Portis is gonna be spectacular this year....a must have.

Jones and Martin are not worth keeping for sure. Martin is old and Jones....I don't see him lasting in Detroit.

If you can get Bush....keep Deuce, but when you draft I'd take Taylor over Jones. I'm not a Jones believer. Taylor has about the best O-Line in Minn...his potential is very, very high!!

Thanks Cuse! Yea, my D is pretty weak. I actually just had an offer of the Colts D for Horn...then, before I could answer, he came back with M. Barber/Colts for Horn & Jones. But I think I might get a better D in the draft. I like your take on Taylor. I made the playoffs last year, and in a fit of panic I grabbed him off waivers (I think J. Lewis was struggling) and threw him on my bench. Who would have tghought he'd be a starter this year with potential. I have a Vikings Homer in my league and have thought about trading him off.

I don't think nayone in my league has proposed a trade off except for me (multiple times), and they took the bait when I started dealing draft picks. A lot of guys don't figure them to have any value, but I'm sitting pretty good because of it. I may have to do the same thing with Horn, etc. and try to get some 2007 picks.

Atlanta Falcons Defense

On a good note:

There not bad at all. They have a great pass rush, Abraham & Kerney are studs, D'Angelo Hall is one of the best DB's in the game, they added Lawyer Milloy a tough as nails safety. If Keith Brooking can stay healthy he is an outstanding LB. Jimmy Williams is a kid with alot of potential. Crocker, Hartwell....this team is very good on D. Last year they had alot of injuries and it took it's toll. Their ranking is very misleading.

Now for the dreadful part.

They play Carolina twice. If the Simms can be a good qb..TB could be a tough team. NO added Brees and Bush...they could be tough as well....so there is two for sure tough games (Caro) and possibly four with TB and NO two times a piece that could be very tough to stop.

And it gets worse....much, much worse.....

Outside of their conference they play

Arizona...not a joke anymore, this team should be able to put up yards and points with anyone!

Giants...Manning is for real, Barber, Shockey, Burress, Toomer...points, points, points.

Steelers...They don't score alot of points, but they are very capable of it.

Bengals...we know they can put up points

Lions...Martz is in town....look out, they will prolly score too.

Ravens...Air McNair is there and Lewis has to bounce back...could be the surprize team in the AFC.

Cowboys...Jones, Owens, Glenn, Witten this team should be able to score as well.

Eagles...I wouldn't count McNabb out yet.

Redskins...they loaded up this year, shouldn't have any problem putting up yards, points.

And lastly....the Cleveland Browns, an easy one, only problem is: They play them the ninth game...that should give Braylon Edwards time to get into the flow, Joe J time to get settled in, Rueben should be having a solid year and Winslow will have half a year under his belt and Chuck Frey might have alot of confidence by then.

IMO....The Falcons have the toughest schedule there could possibly be! That is why I would stay away from the Falcons despite their defense looking pretty solid.
