Torn 42 Posted March 3, 2017 I looked through the Yahoo material it appears that no fees are involved (surprisingly). If I was mistaken, I will personally eat any fees for this season. You can pay directly from our Yahoo league page. I already did it. It's pretty straightforward, but if you have issues, let me know. I put a deadline of 3/24 for payment. Please make sure you do so by then. I will NOT hold things up pending payment, but give this first year Commish a break and don't make this something I need to worry about. :-) Thanks! Oh, and set payouts as follows: 1st place - $200 2nd place - $75 3rd place - $25 Basically, win a Yahoo virtual trophy, win a prize... We will continue to provide the 1st choice in the next draft to the winner of the consolation bracket as well. I've found that to be a great incentive to keeping more managers active through the entire season.
kysar_soze 7 Posted March 5, 2017 FYI - when I went to pay. I got this notice: We're sorry, but you appear to be trying to register for your cash league from a restricted location (restricted state: WA). If you believe you do meet all eligibility requirements, please contact Customer Care. (Error #982) Not sure if there is a work around in the yahoo site and/or if it's possible for me to send payment a different way.
Torn 42 Posted March 5, 2017 Well, didn't see that one coming. :-) Let me look into it and I'll get back to you.
forensicguy 3 Posted March 5, 2017 Maybe mail a check to Torn. He can do it from his state? Mail a check to me, ...I might accept your money.
Torn 42 Posted March 5, 2017 This could get messy. Yahoo blocks people from certain states for payments. Nothing I or they can do to change that. Getting the fee to me directly is the easy part. Plenty of options available to get that done. My larger concern is with the site. It appears that the league will revert to free on the 3/24 deadline if everyone is not paid. Those who have paid will get their $ refunded. So, I see two possible alternatives: 1. I revert the league now, on purpose. Those who paid will get refunded and we just pay via PayPal to me. This assumes trust, so I understand if anyone is hesitant to do that. 2. Kysar - I'm not sure what has triggered Yahoo to know your location. Maybe creating a new account for Alex from Oregon might work. No idea if it'd help.

Also, I think they are using my IP for address location and not any info that I've provided. I have location disabled. The only location shown under my profile is Sunny Vale CA. I'm not sure what more I can do without a trip.
Torn 42 Posted March 5, 2017 I have sent a note off to Yahoo support to see if there is any workaround. I'm doubting there is based on actually reading the fine print that we always ignore. There is language in the "terms & conditions" indicating that Washington (and 6-7 other states) are ineligible to enter. It is also forbidden to create an alternate account for this purpose (killing my idea) or to share an account to circumvent this. The only option I could think of was to see if Yahoo could mark your team as paid, but I'm guessing that's going to get rejected, too. If they can't do so, then when we hit the 24th, the league will auto-revert if you (or anyone else is still marked unpaid). So, even if you pay via an alternate path, the league will still "blow up" because it'll show you as unpaid. Most likely scenario at this point is that I'll need to revert the league back to "free" ... We can then: * Pay me via PayPal if you guys are OK with doing so - I'll distribute winnings at end of season via PayPal as well. * Use League Safe (confirmed to work in all 50 states) - there is a 3% convenience fee, though, so it would be $25.75 ... I'd rather trust you dont make off with my $25 than use that scam. Not only is there a 3% convenience fee but for the winners, when they go to cash out, the only free cash out option is to roll winnings over to use to pay another league. If you want a check or transfer to a bank account youll be paying another convenience fee. I've migrated all of my FF leagues away from league safe
gratefulted 14 Posted March 6, 2017 Since half the league already paid why not just ask those who are prohibited from paying to send you money instead of everybody?

WhiteWonder 2,160 Posted March 6, 2017 Ted - the yahoo league won't run unless each team has paid their entry fee, which requires direct payment from that person's yahoo account. So if even 1 person does not have their payment submitted, the league won't run... or the league will run but all other 11 owners money will be refunded and we will all have to submit payment via paypal anyway. basically you can't have some people pay via yahoo and some via another method. It's all or nothing.

Torn, I will need your home address to send you a money order (haven't wrote a check in years and don't have any), Someone hacked my paypal acct and bought themselves (or tried to) a home computer system so I wont use them anymore. Torn 42 Posted March 6, 2017 Heard back from Yahoo, and as expected, they cannot knowingly mark someone as paid who lives in a state where Fantasy sports "gambling" is deemed illegal. Sigh... They advised to revert the league to free and gather the pool via other means. So, bottom line is we're hosed for using Yahoo to capture the stake. I've reverted the league back to free - according to Yahoo, you should be credited within 5-7 days. let me know if this does NOT happen for you. It also seems we have a couple of folks who've had bad experiences with League Safe, so that option is not looking good either. At this point, all I can ask is that folks put their trust in me to handle and distribute the winnings appropriately. If anyone has a concern on that front (I won't be offended - you guys only know me via a faceless bulletin board ), let me know. I can only say that I've been playing fantasy sports for eons, have commissioned many leagues over the years and promise to not to run with your $. But, words are words. The proof can only come after the season ends. Not sure if other alternatives exist, though. If anyone has one, please throw it out there. I'm open to any options at this point. Otherwise, I can send my home address via PM to those who want to go that way or provide my PayPal info to others if that's easier. Kysar - send a letter to your Congressman or something - LOL... Ted - home address sent via PM.

posty 2,285 Posted March 6, 2017 Because the state of Washington has a weird definition of what constitutes "gambling"? Well that, but mainly because of turning into a pay league...
Torn 42 Posted March 6, 2017 Well that, but mainly because of turning into a pay league... Yeah, yeah - 20/20 hindsight. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm kind of looking forward to playing with a stake. This is the only fantasy league I play in (football and baseball) WITHOUT a prize pool.

WhiteWonder 2,160 Posted March 6, 2017 I'm glad there is a stake. Makes fantasy sports more interesting for me. I'm in two leagues (1 football 1 baseball) that are free. The baseball league only holds my attention because of the unique format. The football is a dynasty and it gets my least attention.
