Recommended Posts

Seriously losing my taste for it. It's a bland flavor. Love all the sides...but give me a honey baked ham anyday

Wild game turkey is pretty good. The farm raised ones dont have as much flavor. Still ways to make it good (as Im sure youre more well aware than anyone here). But I agree, its more of a pain to cook for the least amount of flavor when it comes to other birds. Give me a Cornish game hen any day over it

Most American poultry is pretty tasteless unless wild.

Most Americans would consider 'real' poultry too gamey.

Take butter and the grind up some pepperoni. Mix together and put it under the skin of the turkey. It adds flavor.

I also do it with garlic butter, but that is still more subtle.

I have posted many times about having a bird dog and bird hunting 40+ days a year.

I have eaten Hungarian partridge, pheasant, blue grouse, chukar, rough grouse, sharptail grouse, Canadian geese, snow geese, wild turkey, and at least 10 subspecies of duck including, but not limited to: mallards, teal, canvasback, golden eye, bufflehead, scaup, redhead, wood, etc.

Wild bird is alright, but all of my hunting buddies agreed that domestic bird is just as good as 80% of the wild bird.

10% of wild bird is bad, merganser, scaup, etc.

10% of wild bird is great, Hungarian partridge...

80% is average.

Wild turkey is not better than domestic, for one they are tiny and you cannot cook them the same way.

People who say wild game is significantly better than domestic have not eaten much wild game.

This is pretty accurate. I do prefer a fresh turkey over frozen, but thats the same for all meats.

True. I can't stand the chicken sold in stores here. I go to the foreign store and pay more than double for good ole tyson hormone injected pseudo chicken.

Wild turkey around here tastes better than store bought turkey. Almost everyone around here who hunts and eats them knows this.

Change my mind

Bias.if you spend thousands of dollars on gear and lots of time to hunt something, and then admit it tastes worse than the cheap grocery version, you kind of make yourself a dumbass, no?

It's true. The only part of a deer that tastes really good is the backstrap. The rest of it has to be combined with other meats or drenched with seasoning. Don't tell anyone though. Hunters won't admit that they're out there in the cold for just a little bit of really good meat

Nope. Sorry not true. Of course though most people here will give their opinion on it even though they dont know anything on the subject in typical geek fashion

Outside of deli turkey, I could go w/out and never miss it.

Although I do love a good Thanksgiving turkey wing and picking at the skin.

Had some last year. Went pheasant hunting and bagged quite a bit. Dog didnt know what the heck to do since shes trained for duck hunting so she would scare the pheasants up in the air too soon. Coulda had more but its fine

Agree with others, great for deli sandwiches otherwise I’m good without it. Prefer pretty much every other meat to it.
