Who started time?

Recommended Posts

So everybody across the world has the exact time. Different time zones of course, but 8:00 in Alabama is 9:00 on eastern time zone then 2:00 in Europe and so on in Asia. We are all synched together.

So who pushed the button to say start/go? And when and where?

What's up Jerryskids! I was thinking about your scorpion bite from a long time ago. That was an awesome thread!

Doing well here - busy raising 16-12-8 year olds. I'm back in 2 leagues though. Hope you are doing well yourself!

Yep still a tennis pro - and my hot wifey mounts me daily! (Ok that's a lie!)

Good to hear, all is well here as well.

Funny you mention the scorpion thread; my wife had her first sting last Saturday in 28 years of living here -- luckily it was on the bottom of the foot where the skin is tough so the numbness only went half way up her calf. Nothing like my experience where I wished for a quick death.

Jerry, can you bump that thread? (I'm on my phone and too lazy :ninja:)

I searched for "scorpion" and this thread was the only one that came up. Maybe it was before LatinPimp? :dunno:

I couldn't find some old ones either Jerry. I was looking for Roger Federer tennis threads - Rodger is greater than tiger woods...and how about that comparison now 4 years later!

This was a few months ago right after federer won Wimbledon and I was coming back here to bump the topics. Couldn't find any of them.

It's based upon the location of the Sun and s***.

That's why I hate daylight savings time. Or at least one of the reasons. What the f***? We just all sort of collectively agree to lose an hour or gain an hour? It shouldn't be that way.

But then again, I'm one of those old-fashioned guys who thought the gender was pretty specific. Apparently everything is just a matter of what you want it to be and how you feel. So, happy noon time everybody!

Um... different cycles of night and day?? 1pm here would be 1pm pitch black night over there...

Thats how vampires get started...

I think it is an interesting question. Use a 24 hour clock and get rid of AM and PM. A 9 to 5 (or 9 to 17) job at GMT becomes a 17 to 2 job in AZ. What time is that conf call with the UK? 17.

Would take some getting used to but I kinda like it. Then again we never adopted metric because we hate change. :dunno:

If I tell you it's 4:00 in London, you know it's still light out, people are at work, etc. If it's the same time everywhere, you still need to know how many "time zones" away they are to know what is going on there.

I know you're talking mostly about clock type of time, but the guys that really impressed me are the ones who invented calendar type of time.

I mean, you hear reference to things that occurred in you know like 500 BC. Somebody back then had to know exactly what year Christ was going to be born so they can start the clock running. Hey what year is it? Oh it's 426 years until Christ is born. I mean that is some pretty smart s*** right there.

I mean, I thought the countdown clock to when the Olsen twins turned 18 was impressive, but damn...

China pretty much does use a 24:00 clock. Everything is listed that way. And the whole country is one time zone, Beijing time. Volty is fairly far west, I gotta imagine that the clock and the sun don't agree where he is sometimes.

And fock our imperial system. It is so hard to change. I still have little idea of what a KM is, or a KG. People ask me all the time, "how far is it?" and I say, "About 2 miles." "WTF is a mile?"

Kg is 2.2 pounds. Which is how much 1 liter of water weighs... 1 cubic decimeter... which is ten centimters on a side holds 1 liter of water

I inch = 2.54cm

I mile is 1.6 km

Now ya know
