Jordy, Jordy, Jordy...time to drop?

Recommended Posts

What are you guys doing with good old Jordy Nelson? He seems to be getting dropped in a lot of leagues and his numbers justify that. I would've bet big money at the beginning of the year that he was going to explode back onto the scene because Gruden loves "football players". Now I'm not so sure. Carr either doesn't trust him, doesn't like him or is unable to progress through his reads fast enough to get to him. He's getting open - or at least it looks that way to me - but he's not getting the ball. :dunno:

Very good question, tough one.

Mmm I think I would keep him if you can, but that also depends on use available in your league?

Thanks.

There are some intriguing young guys available like Boyd on Cincy, Calloway on Cleveland, heck even Cole Beasley might be more productive.

I like both Boyd and Calloway.

Sorry but is this league a ppr?

No problem, I should've stated that. Yes it is a full PPR.

I like Boyd the most.

He has good hands.

I know he has Green on the other side, but he’s diffently the wr2 on the Bengals.

Non ppr I would have said Calloway.

I think Boyd will have more rec.

Good luck

Agreed all around. I just added Boyd...and if Jordy had been sitting in free agency too? I'd have added Boyd.

I think for the quality you can get on the wire, it cant hurt to hang onto Jordy one or two more weeks to be sure.

Hes on a new team and may just be establishing a connection with his QB. this can take some time, so a slow start wasnt fully unexpected for me.

on the flipside I dont think he is the player he once was either.

I think reasonably, hes a WR2 or WR3. I think his days as an elite WR1 are over.

Completely agree which is why I was on the fence about him. But he's my WR5 behind Sanders, ARob, Corey Davis and Westbrook. So for me it's more about the long term outlook since I don't have to start him right now. Boyd has a chance to breakout as a solid fantasy WR3 or more if Green gets dinged up. Ultimately I don't know if Jordy would crack my starting line up, even when the byes start.

I just read this stat about Jordy and looked it up to confirm: he hasn't had more than 35 receiving yards in his last 13 games played. I think that seals the deal. Putting in a bid for Boyd.

Drafted him as a Flex (he's my WR4 behind Allen, Hilton & D.Thomas) and started him the first 2 weeks, but he's benched moving forward until he does something.

Ours is a 14 team, with 24 draft rounds, so not much left on the wire...I'll keep him because no one available is better, but I'd drop him if we didn't have so many bench spots.

jordys first game was weird...obviously against some good corners...but he caught 3 balls for 23 yards in think in the first quarter...or had at least 2 in the first and 1 in the 2nd quarter.....on 3 targets

then never saw another targer the rest of the day(he was credited with one on that horribly underthrown carr int which i dont consider a true target)

but id id ready somewhere that while cooper was moving down field rather well, at something like avg of 17mph, jordy was moving on avg of about 6mph.....prob not good

Not worth keeping in IMO. Seems to have lost a step or two the past two seasons.

6mph? No offense, I'd love to see that stat. I walk 6mph.

That's somewhat plausible. If you're counting the whole route, including studder-stepping, stop-and-go, turning, etc. Jordy is a good route runner, and a guy who will make a perfect square-in will have to slow down to make the 90 degree turn, where as a guy who rounds it off will run faster through his turn. So in the 9 or 10 ballpark overall sounds at least like something a slow receiver might do.

For reference, I (and I'm not incredibly fast) can run a 5k at around 9mph (closer to 10 for a PR). So a guy running that fast on a passing route including all those factors seems plausible.

Still slow though, I'd think, for a WR, so your point is taken :)

One of my best fa pick ups ever in a Dynasty league years ago, but the sand is running out quick imo

Jordy was all about timing with Rodgers the last few seasons. He's clearly lost a step to the point where other QBs won't be able to produce as much with him.

Just my opinion.

You're right about the chemistry being the problem. That said, his speed shouldn't be an issue--timing doesn't need speed, right? But he just clearly doesn't have the same close rapport with Carr.

Carr seems to be lacking rapport with his team.

Great input guys. I successfully obtained Boyd and dropped a healthy Jordy Nelson. Feels strange.

I can't believe someone even drafted or picked him up off waivers. Like why would anyone do that? If you are starting Jordy Nelson your FF season is already over.

He's onld and he's had some serious injuries, plus his QB isn't named Aaron Rodgers any more.

Stick a fork in him!

Believe it. I drafted him as my WR5 in the 13th round so not too big of a risk. No one, other than you apparently, knew for sure that he was gonna look like a bust after 2 weeks. It sucks that my fantasy season is over already. Darn!

I did draft him in one league, more of my feeling about Cooper. Dropped him last week for A Jones in GB who will be dropped in a couple weeks for some other scrub.

I usually give guys I drafted a couple weeks to gel unless they get injured. If he hasn't done something after this week I'd say drop him if there is anything better on the WW. I think in his case a lot of people are holding on to him because of name recognition and not performance. He's not even a starting option right now.

Jordy was one of those guys with A) a history of success and B ) enough question marks about the causes of his recent problems that made me think he wasn't a complete DND. I'd have grabbed him maybe in a late round. Didn't, but might have. But I don't think his lack of production as a Raider was certain before the season. And, in fact, it may not be certain he won't start producing at some point. He didn't spring from the womb with a rapport with Rodgers, he might be able to build one with Carr.

While I wanted to keep Jordy to see what would happen as the season went on, I dropped him in non ppr to add Golladay. And before you ask why was Golladay on the ww, I will preemptively answer you, Yes, it's a 2 man league.

I picked him up after he was dropped this week. He's a wr5 for me in a 14 teamer w not much on the wire. Dropped JStew for him fwiw.

From what I've seen watching OAK is that Carr is most of the problem right now. Grudens play calling is also somewhat suspect, but Carr isn't im sync yet.

I think Nelson is done.

He might have a game or three that’s good.

But unless someone as a major injury issue at wr I don’t ever see trusting starting him.

As noted above the Raiders simply have to many problems.

And I the passing game whe the Qb is the biggest problem no one wins.

I know. Jordy Nelson has zero skill. It's all luck. His whole career has been pure luck.

Indeed. He lucked his way into all those team meetings and film sessions, lucked his way through the playbook and workouts and practices. And none of us ever heard of him or saw any data on him at all about how lucky he was. So many games, so many luck. :)

Nelson has had 10 lucky years of 561 lucky receptions for 8074 lucky yards, and 70 very, very lucky TDs. Man, who could have seen a good game coming from this unknown stiff? I just noticed he has had only 2 fumbles total in his last 7 years of play. How lucky can you get?
