Stuff you are able to do around the house and not (handy stuff)

Recommended Posts

Not the usual your wife or mom. But actual handy things.

Ive replaced about everything you can in a toilet, Minot wiring issues but nothing too crazy. Minor fixes to the washer and dryer and dishwasher.

Drywall is prett easy, have laid tile and done trim.

Car wise the simple stuff changing oil, spark plugs and so on.

Suck at...most other stuff with a car I am clueless about. Dad and step dad werent car guys and I never got into that stuff.

Heating and AC Im not very useful.

I have a severe lack of confidence with being handy but enjoy doing it with the guidance of someone who knows what they are doing.... With YouTube having note and more people with guides and how to's I find myself able to be more convenient working on things myself

I've built a deck, repaired a dryer(thanks to youtube), drywall, minor plumbing and electrical. I'll tackle most problems or find friends that can help get it done. Major projects or repairs I hire out.

Every man should know how to replace a light fixture, receptacle, and switch.

Install a garbage disposal, dishwasher, toilet, sink.

I have hung drywall, and tile, but I suck at it so bad compared to professionals that I'll leave it to them.

I have changed oil, but I'll leave it the Mobile drive through guys. On my 1st car I could change most easy things, carb, alternator. Don't do much anymore.

Why would anyone change their own oil nowadays? Getting rid of it is a huge PITA

I thought I went to college so I didn't have to do any of that crap. Jk.

I am not handy around the house at all. I took the pedals and bars off a bicycle to make it into a glider. That was my big accomplishment for the summer. And I needed a YouTube video for that.

Im the same with drywall unless its patch jobs. And oil...its for me to do but the disposal makes it worth it and easier to just take it to someone.

The store has a fuel oil furnace and this past winter i got two separate deliveries of fuel oil that had water in it. I discovered this guys channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4mZGMmJ1kOaOG1oRACZDbQ and have become quite adept at fixing a fuel oil furnace. I even ordered nearly all the parts to completely rebuild the furnace and have them in a tote now just in case.

I have been changing some fluorescent lights over to LED but I don't feel very comfortable with electrical unless it's something simple.

Plumbing seems easy enough although it's always a thousand times more a pain in the ass than I ever expect it to be so I try to avoid it if possible.

I don't know anything about vehicles. I can change the oil and spark plugs and air filters but anything else I'm lost and I'd rather pay someone to do the oil anyway.

I have a table say, compound miter saw, multiple power tools and I can't tell you the last time I built anything. I always thought it would be nice to have a little shop but I usually lose interest soon after I order the tools.

Used to do some construction work so I can DIY most home stuff with reasonable competency. Framing, drywall, light plumbing, flooring, roofing, trim work... pretty good with most of that. Electrical is my weakness I would say.

I have an old landcruiser so I've done a fair amount of mechanical work too, but I don't really touch our newer rigs. I might change a headlight or an air-cleaner or something but that's about it.

No, it's not. Just take the container to an auto parts store. As far as why someone would do it themself, because the less I can have someone else working on my sports cars the better, although as I get older that motivation wanes more and more.

Ok, so you pour it out of the pan into some kind of container for the transport. PITA

Changed my water heater and had to redo the copper pipe connections

Installed a wood laminate floor in the kitchen. Installed new peel and stick floor in the basement. What a pain in the dlck

Replace sump pump. I would call a plumber if I ever needed an ejector pump change

Installed garbage disposal.

Sanded, stained, clearcoated trim in the kitchen.

Installed two new doors with door jam.

Used to do roofing as a job, but I honestly would never even consider doing my own. I don't even remember enough to do it if I hit a valley or had to do flashing.

I love oil change day.

* Go to NTB

* Drop off truck

* Walk next door to Hooters

* They change oil, I have a couple beers, watch some sports

They call when ready, plus they rotate my tires.

No, you have a pan that doubles as a transport container. After your oil drains you put a plug in the pan and take it to the auto parts store the next time you need oil for your next oil change. Very easy.

I've painted my other house, finished my basement except for drop ceiling, fixed a/c unit/furnace, laid tile, electrical, etc....

Once you see who is able to do this work, you tell yourself 'I got this'. Youtube videos help however I'm at a point in my life where I'll pay someone to do a project because it will be done quicker.

Pretty much everything except for the innards of a heat pump. Ive drawn plans, permitted and built entire houses. Although I can do it, wiring a panel is a PITA. I can diagnose and replace parts on all appliances.

Ive rebuit engines, except for machine work. Trannies and rear ends, not so much. Ive put on more suspension and body lifts than I can count. Most modern cars youre just a parts changer.

Being a fireman for 23 yrs as taught me alot. Hang around a farmer or a fireman, you'll learn alot.

Fock tile and drywall. Never again. I do my own auto repairs as long as sprung steel isnt involved.

I CAN do that, and in America I would. I learned already to never fock with Chinese electrical work. I got knocked on my ass the one time I messed with it (was just changing a ballast. The breaker was supposedly off. Apparently not.)

The last house I had in America had really cheap toilets. Four of them. I replaced everything you can on each of them over the years. Im pretty good there.

I CAN do drywall, but Id much rather not.

I can do very basic carpentry, like a simple deck or flower beds or something.

Car Im pretty useless. Can change a battery and a tire. Thats about all I got.
