South Carolina State Senate candidate allegedly inappropriately touched 16-year-old...

Nothing to see here, this is a resume enhancement in this case...

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating claims against a State Senate candidate accusing him of inappropriately touching a 16-year-old girl during his years as a teacher.

According to SLED spokesman Thom Berry, agents are looking into the claims against Democrat Mike Fanning, who successfully challenged Senate District 17 Sen. Creighton Coleman in the June primary.

Berry said SLED received a request from the Hampton County Sheriff's Office to investigate claims made against Fanning while he was a teacher at Estill High School.

The South Carolina Republican Party immediately responded to the claims, saying South Carolina Democrats should "immediately disassociate themselves" from Fanning.

"These are serious allegations that have been raised against Mike Fanning," SCGOP Chairman Matt Moore said in a statement. "Parents are alarmed that he remains on the ballot and could actually serve in our State Senate. It is time for Democrat leaders to repudiate Mike Fanning and his dangerous campaign."

We've reached out to the Fanning campaign for a statement.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't alleged. I'm quite certain she was shot.

If you're trying to make a point, you look stupid.

Without looking, im betting South Carolinas age of consent is 16. As iv taught you guys before, consent is 16 or 17 in far more states than it is 18. So if she was willing, this shouldnt be news. Plus have you seen 16yr old girls? They are sexy as hell, what pervert could resist?

Age of consent is generally irrelevant when it involves teacher/student relationships. HTH.

Again, if this was student/teacher, none of that matters.

Thanks. Being from Wisconsin I looked at that, made the wrong association, and couldn't figure out why this was a "Wisconsin" story. Seems an odd way of reporting the story location/author, haven't ever seen that format before.

Yeah I was kind of wondering, because if was an AP story it would be Columbia, SC (AP), but I think the three character TV station name threw me as well...

16 in Michigan. I always thought it was 18.

Yep,old news growing up. 15 gets you 20 was the saying.

16 would be legal for us, and is a felony for a teacher.
