Its just a lot of money for a second or third tier 1B when youre going into rebuild mode.

wheelin and dealin with the chisox and dodgers. Dodgers will like what they got with Alexander, a solid lefty going to your pen. Trevor Oaks?

Oaks lived off a sinker that sat around 90 mph in college and has ticked up to 92-93 mph in pro ball, now topping out at 96. His fastball plays better than its average velocity thanks to its heavy life. He has feel for a changeup that can become at least an average No. 2 pitch, and he also can mix in a slider and a cutter that sometimes blend together.

Oaks pounds the bottom of the strike zone, and though he doesn’t miss a lot of bats, he has what it takes to be an efficient workhorse starter. He has bounced back from Tommy John surgery in high school to put himself in position to serve the Dodgers as a back-of-the-rotation or middle-relief option.”

Red Sox are holding strong now, but they will panic and wildly overpay Martinez.

I really really really wanted the Indians to make room/money and go after him.

I wanted Kipnis, Brantley, Santana, all either traded or don't offer new contracts. That could've freed up enough cash to make a play at a long term contract to a very solid first baseman, like Hosmer.

Let Bruce walk. A couple relievers. They had room had they done this. Plus, the Indians have very good young talent in the minors. Let them old, expensive fockers go.

Would've loved to have Hosmer.

His agent is Boras, he will be traded (probably) will never be signed.

Hell no.. Bradley has a pretty high ceiling and a couple of years of team control.

Is baseball's economic structure broken? Seems there are a ton a free agents and with pitchers and catchers reporting just a few weeks from now, I wonder if there'll be a run of signings once a few players start to sign, or are we going to actually see some big name players hold out and not start the season with a team.

Hearing 5/$80m for Cain

'

Yeah, I would have been happier with 3 years, or passing all together(he's an upgrade, but at 36/37???). Still have to see what's next for the Crew, cause we have way too many outfielders now.

I wouldnt give Happ for archer alone much less adding almora.

Cubs signing Gimenez is interesting with the ties he has to Yu Darvish.

Hosmer to the Padres for 8 years. I guess Logan Morrison and re-signing Moose is the best we can hope for now :dunno:

Pitchers & catchers reported last week... Normally I'm jacked up and super excited about it - this year, I'm about as bummed out as I can recall in several seasons.

This Rangers team is going to suck. Bovada has the over/under at 77.5 games.......... Bank the Under.

Sounds like someone offered Tim Lincecum a guaranteed MLB deal. Rangers seem to be grabbing cheap arms for depth, but I dont think theyd even go for

Red Sox sign JD Martinez. Sad what's happened there. They don't produce any of their own players anymore, just spend money.

I have no clue what the Rays are doing. Really dont.

DFA Corey Dickerson? 28 year old who has had multple good seasons and was an all star last year? Trading Longoria? I get that he was becoming pricey and older but why not have a guy who has been the face of the franchise finish out his career there? Still solid defensively and a leader.

Not even toying with bringing Logan Morrison back? Guy mashed pretty well.

Seems like they are just collecting a hodgepodge of mediocre infielders.

Only move that made some sense was trading Odorizzi. Completely overvalued. Never lived up to the talent... but the return was awful.

Bryce Harper wondering why there are so few signings.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2018/02/20/bryce-harper-doesnt-understand-why-so-many-great-free-agents-havent-been-signed/?utm_term=.6148f0f0d9f9

Are you that clueless Bryce? Teams are eternally getting screwed by long term guaranteed deals. A lockout is almost assured in a couple of years. Fans can't attend games without spending a fortune.

Don't like or trust the JD Martinez signing.

Why didn't anyone else want him?

I hope I'm wrong

Then again, who cares about baseball.

What have they done to speed up the game?

The onslaught of pitching changes is killing the game. Sometimes it's unbearable - which in turn leads to unwatchable.

I read somewhere that there will be only six trips to the mound visits without a pitching change per game. That includes any player leaving their spot to talk to him, including the catcher.

Its going to be interesting, Willson Contreras makes a ton of mound visits..
