Voltaire 4,556 Posted June 28, 2017 The lsat time the Brits has the biggest, most indetructable battleship in the world, they tried to do an impressive turning maneuver, failed and sank it. http://www.advanceddivermagazine.com/articles/hmsvictoria/hmsvictoria.html
wiffleball 4,635 Posted June 28, 2017 How's it compare to the German Dreadnaughts? Those effers were huge!
wiffleball 4,635 Posted June 28, 2017 (tongue in cheek) "Amazingly, this ship has the radar signature of a much smaller boat!" "Uh, yeah, but it's the size of Manhattan..." 'Never mind that boy, look at the radar screen!" "Um, okay, but I've got binoculars..." "Dammit! Why can't you be a team player!"
wiffleball 4,635 Posted June 28, 2017 On a related note, was reading the Navy times yesterday. The Navy is madly desperate for bodies right now. Major incentives to sign up. I guess that whole "with technology we'll need smaller crews!" thing is still a ways off. Still, if you got a kid about to graduate that likes seamen. titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted June 28, 2017 How's it compare to the German Dreadnaughts? Those effers were huge! The American Nimitz Class was the biggest ever... are these bigger? http://www.therichest.com/rich-list/the-biggest/top-10-largest-warships-in-the-world/ Apparently, we have new toys coming out too... The aircraft carriers of the Nimitz Class are the largest warships currently in service in the world. At around $4.5 billion each, these carriers are the most expensive ship on this list. The ten ships of this class help the United States flex its military muscle around the world. Aside from military matters, these 100,000 ton super-carriers have also provided humanitarian relief from the Indonesian tsunami in 2004 to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Nimitz carriers can operate 85 to 90 aircraft, substantially more than any other carrier in the world. They also have the usual array of missiles and guns meant to protect against enemy missiles and aircraft. It is expected that each carrier from this class will serve for 50 years before being decommissioned. In the meantime, the US Navy has already begun the building the Gerald R. Ford class, an even bigger aircraft carrier with a price tag estimated to be between $9-12 billion. Why the fock would we name them after Ford? And why the fock are they FOUR TIMES more expensive than the already expensive Nimitz class?
