***Official Seattle Seahawks Thread 2012***

Recommended Posts

Haven't watched too many Seahawks games, but now I really understand who that 12th man is :pointstosky:

and 13th

and 14th

Good luck the rest of the way

I get the feeling the football gods will see to it that there will be a rematch down the road when the weather gets chilly before the season is all said and done.

Well, I'd like to see him play with some WRs that can actualy get separation from a defender and get open before I jump to this conclusion.

Terrell Owens isn't doing much right now, other than pushups on his front lawn.

So, the topics this week for discussion:

Is the Seahawk defense going to be ranked #1 in the NFL? Clearly, yes.

Do we fire Bevell and find an Offensive Coordinator off the street? Couldn't be any worse.

Does Matt Flynn deserve a shot at the starting job? He makes anticipation throws, Wilson is more visual.

Where the hell do we find some capable WRs? I say we throw 30 times a game to the TEs at this point.

I never liked Bevell.... I'm hoping it's because they have Training wheels on Wilson for right now. And I hope they take that off soon

Our first round pick next year should easily be a WR. They probably should go pick TO back up.

I don't agree it's Wilson's fault at all. They should just take the training wheels off and pass more or at least become less predictable.

Bevell is very questionable to me. He could be the problem. But, it's a team game plan I'm sure.

Our Def is amazing. I'm even having more hope for Irvin. ;)

I'm not worried about anything yet, as we are 2-1 and played GB and Dallas and a undefeated Arizona team.

Apparently there is a rule that allows Goodell to overturn a game. Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that this game is getting turned over? That would be the ultimate FU to Seahawks fans.

If that happens I'm done. Done with this farce masquerading as NFL football. I'll watch college and maybe even high school ball from then on out.

One Online Sports Book Is Refunding Everyone Who Bet On The Packers

Barry Petchesky

The NFL is the biggest sport in America because of betting. WagerMinds estimates that in Nevada, $12 million rides on any given football game. Marc Lawrence of PlayBook.com says another $250 million is at stake in offshore betting on a typical Monday Night Football game. So last night's debacle in Seattle didn't only affect the Packers' playoff hopes, or the NFC West teams competing with the Seahawks. There was big money at stake. This is a major problem for the NFL.

The Packers were 3.5 point favorites at most sports books, and had the game ended with an interception, as it should have, Green Bay would have covered. But a Seattle touchdown swung that, and the moneyline, and perhaps even more than the integrity of the sport, this morning is about figuring out just how much money changed hands.

According to ESPN.com, a spokesman for SportsBook.com says "70 to 80" percent of the action was on the Packers, and the Mandalay Bay book estimates 85 percent on Green Bay. An unnamed Vegas oddsmaker also says 85 percent. PlayBook.com puts the figure at 70 percent. R.J. Bell of Pregame.com says 68 percent, a number that equates to $150 million more on the Packers than on the Seahawks. Since 68 is the lowest figure we've heard, you can peg that $150 million as the minimum swing.

This morning saw good news for at least some bettors who had the Packers. Glen McGregor, a writer for the Ottawa Citizen, posted the above screengrab. SportsBook.com has decided to refund the money of anyone who got screwed by the replacement officials last night. As oddsmaker Russ Candler told McGregor, "I can't stand winning unfairly so I am going to give the punters their money back."

That's good PR for SportsBook.com, but a sign to anyone who lost money elsewhere that we're really at the mercy of these officials. Bettors hate uncertainty, and there's nothing more uncertain that a sport that can swing on one obscenely blown call. In this case, it just happened to affect the Packers—a public team that sees action from casual bettors—so the sports books have a nice profit to show, at the expense of us mooks. Will this keep money away in the future? If so, the NFL has a lot more to worry about than a little on-field integrity.

Dangerous game this week vs St Louis. Sam Bradford has already gone on record as to how worried he is about the Seattle defense and his doubts about the Rams scoring at all this week and Jeff Fisher was talking about how he watched Rodgers get sacked over and over again and that he might have to start Kellen Clemmens to protect Bradford. They are blowing smoke up the Seahawks' ass in an obvious let down situation.

That Russell Wilson was pretty good in preseason.

Bevell at OC sucks. Guy is in way over his head.

Trap game on the road, the Rams aren't quite the doormats they've previously been but The Hawks NEED to win games like this if they want to take that next step.

Wilson isn't showing progress. Too many stoopid focking penalties from the usual boneheads (Giacomini is a tough guy but a pretty bad football player). They get enough flags for the tough guy act, they cannot continue to shoot themselves in the foot with false starts and whatnot. Again, symptoms of a player coach.

Isn't Bevell the O.C. that got Favre and Sidney Rice the best seasons of their careers?

I'll tell you who sucks, Russel Wilson sucks, that's who.

Bring in Flynn and I bet your team would put up 300 yards most weeks and there would be no WR "problems".

I need more time to digest this loss.

Very early thoughts. The Rams kicker had a 60 yarder and I think a 58 yarder. Yikes. But I put this loss 100% on Russell Wilson. 4 games. He has shown zero ability to be a QB that can win in the NFL consistently or win at all. He misses wide open WRs, he is now throwing picks. He is not stepping up in the pocket. He is not......he's just not good. I don't see any downside to starting Matt Flynn. Our defense hasn't given up more than 19 points in any game this year, and we are 2-2. That's just unacceptable. The next three games are Carolina, New England, and San Fran. There is zero chance of going 2-1 with Wilson as the QB. Enough is enough. Let the kid sit and maybe try him again next year.

I think he can still be a good backup QB at the very least. Maybe after some seasoning he can grow into a starter..I'm starting to have my doubts on that.

Tough loss to an inferior team. But any Jeff Fisher coached team is going to come ready to play and you better be prepared. That being said, this isn't the end of the world. Remember the SB team started that year 2-2 as well with a brutal loss in Washington in week 4. Not saying this is a SB team but the point is this isn't the end of the season.

A few bright spots:

1- Lynch and Turbin are beasts! I love watching these guys run. They run violently.

2- The D did not give up an offensive TD.

3- James Carpenter returned at LG and played well.

Ok, the bad (in no particular order):

1- Breno Giacomini--really? I mean can we cut out the BS 15 yard personal fouls?

2- Def 3rd down conversion rates. C'mon get off the field, specially against this Ram team with no offensive threats.

3- Jon Ryan--had a rare poor game.

The big issues:

On the ST TD, Carroll tried to call TO; the refs didn't see him, oh well

Russell Wilson:

I have been a supporter of Wilson and will contine to be and I thought he deserved the job over Flynn coming out of training camp. That being said, we are four weeks in and the passing game is nonexistent. Good leaders always evalute and re-evaluate and when changes need to be made, even hard changes, good leaders make those changes. Pete Carroll has to be a leader and make a hard choice and sit Wilson down. It's time to see what Flynn can do.

Darrell Bevell:

He contunues to baffle me some of his play calling but I will reserve further judgement since Carroll has said he has handcuffed the passing game.

Russell Okung:

He has regressed this year, big time, and has flat out sucked this year. Penalties, getting beat like a drum consisitently. He needs to step up and be the OT he was drafted to be.

The Seahawks have WAY too much potential for a rookie to start. It's not training day anymore. It's winning time. Wilson is a good kid, works hard, great ethics, but that doesn't make him ready for the NFL. We have all the ingredients to be a playoff team, but there is zero chance that Wilson will be able to get the hawks to the playoffs... even if he did... honestly, he will get destroyed in the playoffs.

I'm not a huge Flynn fan, but he is the best the hawks have got right now and we need the best players to play.

How can this be possible? He is not on the injury report, ever. That would be a fine from the league. Also, Flynn ran the scout team to mimic Rodgers before the Packers game. Carroll is full of sh!t. And we don't have a plan for a 3rd QB other than maybe Michael Robinson, while our 2nd has a bad arm? Really?

I feel bad for Flynn. He got conned by a used car salesman.

http://seattletimes.com/html/seahawksblog/2019316241_petecarrolldiscussesmattflynnsstatus.html

Carroll was asked if Flynn reaggravated the elbow injury that week.

"No," Carroll said. "We just have not gone beyond the numbers that they've been throwing. He has been at every practice, he's been available to us and all. But Russell gets all but every snap, and Josh Portis has played a lot for us as our service-team quarterback. They've shared plays except for the during the Packer, that's when Matt threw the most."

Q: So is Flynn's status a determining factor in whether you could even consider making a change at quarterback?

Carroll: " No, Matt's ready to play. Matt's ready to play. We just don't know what's going to happen when he gets a lot of work. He might be all right, we don't know that, but we have not taken him there yet. But no, he's ready to play in every game and he's ready to go in the very next play if we need him. So the competition goes on in my mind as it does in every position on our football team. Our guys continue to compete, but he has not had the opportunity because we give the starter all the reps, and with a young guy, first time, we're giving him every single snap we can. That's how this has gone throughout."

There is a open competition but he doesn't give Flynn a chance to compete at all. Basically he is playing favoritism to Wilson. Bull Sh*t.

Or maybe Flynn conned Seattle with that 6 TD performance against the Lions.

Love, love, love what the defense is doing. Nothing wrong with that side of the ball, but if our offense does not improve they are going to wear out our defense and we will start seeing injuries crop up on that side of the ball, not sure about our depth on defense. Irvin needs to become a consistent pass rushing threat, Clemons isn't getting any younger.

It's obvious they started Wilson too soon, that said they are doing the kid no favors with the WR corp as assembled. This could end up costing Carrol his job at seasons end if he sticks with Wilson through this season and finishes at .500 or below. The WR situation is painful with Baldwin hampered and Rice not emerging anywhere near elite levels, Braylon Edwards might have been one of our better WR's and he is hurt too.

Interesting idea, Bill Simmons proposed the Seahawks trading a first round draft pick for Wes Welker in the shades of Deon Branch trade a few years ago. My initial reaction was god no, Welker is good but for how much longer, but we need a WR upgrade ASAP if we are going to give Wilson a legitimate chance at QB this year.

Hate to say it but 0-2 in the division is looking like a tough hole to climb out of, with the emergence of the Cardinals defense we had to sweep the Rams.

Agreed. Unless we can sweep the 49ers, best case we split with everybody and go .500

We don't need to be trading any high picks for 30 year old WR's. The position has been badly neglected during the draft with only Tate and Durham being selected. Unless they call up TO, it's as good as it's going to get.

If Wilson can't crack 200 yards against the focking Panthers and the offense struggles Carroll is going to lose a lot of the goodwill he's built with Hawks fans.

God no. Take that 1st rounder and take Justin Hunter. A bonefied #1 stud. Not a 30 year old who's gonna need a big contract in the off season. I'll take my lumps as is.

The four hideous calls that handed the Seahawks the victory over the Packers in the worst jobbing since the 1972 USA/USSR Gold Medal basketball game may actually be working against the Seahawks now...

They are much, much less likely to switch quarterbacks at 2-2 than they are at 1-3.

Coaches have pride. They won't abandon "their guy" until they have to.... 2-2 is not desperation... In fact, it's optimism...

1-3, however, sucks

There's no guarantee that a 7th round draft choice and starter of all of two career NFL games (one of them meaningless) is the answer right now, anyways...

So, go get behind the midget :pointstosky:

I'm well over it...

It doesn't affect us... the difference between 13-3/12-4 means nothing to us.... especially when you win a Super Bowl at 10-6 and lose to the Giants at 15-1...

All about getting hot at the right time....

My very clear point is that it affects your team.

It gives the illusion that things are great when they're not.

And it gives your coach -- who loves RW even more than I do -- plenty of more reason to stick with him plenty longer

HTH!
