Fair or not? Keeper league question.

Recommended Posts

Our league has been going for 14 years, 14 team PPR. 2 keeper league. We have usually been a 12 team league but last year we decided to go to 14 teams and add 2 owners. We have a league rule that if an owner quits the league that the new owner has to take over the team occupied by the team that left. Last year we had two owners leave the league so now we have 4 new owners. We usually draw draft positions out of a hat. Two owners took the two open teams that were available and the 2 expansion team owners got the 1st and 2nd pick in last years draft since there starting with no team where they can claim keepers

The 4 new owners decided by coin flips on who was getting an established team or start fresh and get the 1st or 2nd pick in the 2015 draft.

Now this year we had one owner move away and leave the league and found another person to take over his team. He was told that if he wants in the league he has to take over that team. Now the team isn't real great. He's behind the eight ball a little. He could keep A. Peterson in first round. Delane walker in the 8th or tavon Austin in the 17th.

Now he says that he doesn't have anything worth keeping and wants to start fresh and he thinks he should have the first pick in the draft and then fall into the draft position that he draws out of the hat. He wants a top 5 player but he has AP on his team. It's not like the cupboard bear. He has options. It's league rule that a new owner takes over the team that is open weather is a great team, a poor team or middle of the road team.

My question is should he get to start fresh with the first pick in the draft or should he go by league rule and take over the open team and draft where he draws.

I think you gotta go with the rule in place.

I'm guessing if he had a crappy team, hes probably drafting in the top 3 or 4 anyhow.

if you are only keeping 2, its not that huge of a handicap.

he keeps ADP and Delanie, hes got something he can start with. If he drafts reasonably decently, he will have options next year or the year after when ADP retires.

because his team isn't good? Tell him to pound sand or play by the rules. I'd be concerned that this guy is high maintenance if he's already causing problems.

There's that too.

if you cave now, he will always expect you to cave.

that is the way of things.

unless the league as a whole things its a good idea and wants to change the rules, then you enforce the rules.

I'm betting the guy who currently has the #1 pick wouldnt be very happy if he lost it now would he?

so by making the new guy happy, you are making a long time league member unhappy. Not a fair tradeoff.

the new guy takes his lumps just like the expansion franchises took theirs last year. did they cry when they didnt get one of the existing teams?

just sayin.

It's not an expansion add on draft. He's a replacement owner. Done deal, nuff said. He either wants the team or not.

this shouldn't even be a conversation... now I know why you are asking, but you have a rule in place, stick with the rule...

An established league rule trumps all. In one of my Keeper Leagues, we had two new owners last season for the first time in a decade. They both took over the bottom two teams in the league. They were explained the rules and lived by them. Both had horrible seasons, but set themselves up nicely for 2016. Finding new owners is not difficult. If he doesn't want to follow the rules, tell him to pound sand.

Agree with the post above , follow the set rules , and if you running the league don't be double minded , you just become lost in all your ways .
