Trouble Finding Auctioneer --- Any Suggestions

Recommended Posts

For our auction draft, we are having trouble finding an auctioneer. Usually a wife or girlfriend steps up, but it's getting difficult now with kids, jobs, etc. Has anyone used a countdown clock, or some other device for their auction drafts?

There must be something out there....

Commissioner - "Okay guys... first up is Bob."

Bob - "Okay, I put Peyton Manning on the block with a bid of $10. Okay... I got $15 from Ugly in the corner. I will go $25. Ugly? You want to beat $25? No? Okay... Stinky there in the back at $30. $31? Anyone? Peyton Manning... $31? Going... going... gone. Sold to Stinky for $30."

Commissioner - "Okay Stinky, you're up."

(Problem solved)

Our Commish does the auctioneering in our draft. when he is in on the bidding, someone who is not interested in the player in question is asked to do the auction.

Commandeer a big table at Hooters and tip the waitress. You'll be fine.

If you want it to be simple for the auctioneer. Establish the order of the draft. Every player has a cup in front of them. The first pick is announced. Manning for $25. If the guy next to you is in, he makes a bid. If the next owner is not interested, he flips over his cup and is officially out of the bidding for that player. You cannot put your cup till the next player is announced. You go around the table, in order, until there is the winning bidder. Rinse and repeat.

It's an interesting way to auction draft. We did it for years until the old guys didn't like the draft lasting till midnight. It runs smoothly and is easy to keep up with. Once the order is established, it runs itself. Make your bid or get off the pot.

The only downfall is not being able to get back in the bidding process once you flip your cup. Some players go for nothing in certain times of the draft. Players you think will go for $15 end up going for half that. But everybody plays by the same rules so, you should had stayed in.

We do the same thing, minus the cups... if you pass, you're done bidding.

Don't like that... at all.

But hey... your league, your rules.

We just open bidding when whoevers turn it is to nominate makes his nomination. He gets to pick starting spot if anything more than minimum. And we let it go until bidding has slowed, and someone will say going once twice gone. Basically go until everyone is done upping the bid.

It works! Auction leagues are difficult. That's why they are few and far. Takes bawls to join one. And win. Auction drafts are for the big boys. Get a twelve teamer with no keepers against a bunch of guys who know football with big money on the line and play ff football against a bunch of poosays playing In yahoo leagues claiming they win every year and are experts.

Auction leagues are the sh!t. Deduct the luck factor in half. Redrafts and keeper leagues are pure luck. Auction leagues winners are the sh!t.

Yah, this. Looks to me like some of you are really complicating the process. What is this cup flipping game some of you are playing??? And how or when exactly do you have to determine if you are interested in a player mid bid?

IE. First nomination of the 2014 draft: Peyton Manning $2... Who would admittingly not be interested, or committ to not being interested prior to the process of bidding begins? If you are telling me that you must make a decision as to whether you are interested or not in a player before the bidding continues, that is horrible. I can then see why some are reluctant to participate in auction style drafts. Perhaps I am missing something.

Like zac3434 said... You determine a nomination order. The Manager whose up, nominates whoever the fock they want at whatever opening bid he/she likes. The Commish repeats in a loud clear voice this nomination, and you begin. I think we all know how an auction works.

Now, the Commissioner leads the bidding as the Auctioneer. If... When the Commish is the leading bidder (this is what I do) I will clearly, and slowly say something such as, "okay guys, I have McCoy for $XX... Going once... Going twice... (Usually a purposely delayed pause) Sold. LeSean McCoy to the Usual Suspects for $XX. " I as the Commish/Auctioneer do purposely slow down the bidding when I am involved to maintain the integrity of the auction and of the league.

I just assumed the Commish was always the Auctioneer.
