How to do projections in a custom league

Recommended Posts

I'm in a 12 team PPR league which is a little different from standard PPR leagues because everyone gets 6 points for a TD. There's also bonuses for 300yd or 400yd passing games, and 100 and 200 rush/receiving games.

I'm looking at the ESPN cheat sheets and I know they're doing some kind of calculation where they're ranking the players compared to how steep the drop off is, but I'm not sure what it is they're doing (Like for QBs, are they comparing to the next player? the average of the top 12? the average QB? the 13th QB?)

I can change ESPN's scoring projections to the scoring system used in my league, which changes the rankings for a position, I'm just not sure how to combine the new lists into an overall order. And drafting 11th, I'd like to come up with a better plan than draft Doug Martin and hope he doesn't suck this year.

Can anybody help me out? Thanks

Perhaps I'm not explaining myself well.

Right now when you look at ESPN's PPR draft cheat sheet, it suggests drafting Peyton Manning 9th. Even though he's projected to score way more points than any running back, it makes sense to take the top RBs first because one of them will give more value over the average RB than Manning will over the average QB (or something).

What I'm trying to do is figure out what that "or something" is.

I'm drafting 11th and if I went by ESPN alone, they'd say take Doug Martin. They list Aaron Rodgers 13th. In my league, TDs are worth an extra 2 points, so someone who throws a lot of TDs is even more valuable than in normal PPR.

Using the different scoring, I can redo the list for QBs, I can redo the list for RBs and it'll reorder them slightly. What I don't know how to do is put the lists back together.

That's the question I'm asking, when ESPN (or whoever) does a cheat sheet and tells you to take Manning 9th even though he's probably going to score 100 more points than Peterson, what did they do to figure that out?

I'm not looking for an exact answer, but some ideas (compare to average of top 12 QBs? compare to average QB? compare to 13th QB?) would be helpful.

Thanks

You know I make up my own cheat sheet . That's all Espn or any other ff mags or websites are doing . Just going of how they feel about the value . But value is what you make it . I never look at other ranking ever . I do my own . And that would be m,y answer to you . Look at the league scoring system you are in and make a cheat sheet list of each position. Sorry if that's not enough but it's what I do .

Lets see if I understand you right...

you want the ranking be based on your custom scoring of your league... and once you set that, you want an overall ranking of all players...

Almost everysite including FFtoday allow you to do your own custom ranking but the problem is, they don't usually have all the options possible for the custom scoring rules. For example, in my league rb get .5 ppr, wr get 1 ppm and te get 1.25 ppr. There is no site that I have found that allows me to do so. which makes no sense since it would just be a calculations of their stats, but that's another conversation.

so you just have to find the site that gives you the scoring that is closest to your league and then do a custom overall ranking of all the players (where it doesn't separate between different positions)

If I understand you correctly, that's as close as you can come to what you are asking, the rest of it is black magic to pick the right player at your slot.
