Boston Foreplay/Long Time.

I was going to say Teenage Wasteland - maybe over played to the older generation, but still a great song with a unique intro.

Yeah I know what you mean.

To me the biggest difference difference between todays "mainstream" and back in the day "mainstream" is back in the day, songs became popular because they were actually very good songs, and were never meant to be number one songs. (I mean they were but you know what I mean) Today songs are written with the specific reason to be #1 on the Billboard 100 for a few weeks.

Welcome To The Machine - Pink Floyd

Play that song with a nice set of subs and you'll have the whole car rattling during the intro.

Always been one of my top 3 Zep songs.

I would have to add to this list: Welcome to the Jungle by gnr. Just gets you really pumped up when played at the proper volume.

Most would go with Eruption/You Really Got Me or maybe Hot For Teacher, but my fav Van Halen intro:

These are technically separate songs, but both can be considered lead-ins to the next songs.

I always like this and at one time it was the longest intro (without a separate title ie: Funeral for a Friend).

2:29 before lyrics start.

If Funeral for a Friend and Eruption count - it's a tie.

Strongest start to a song without a doubt it is Layla.

Lay It Down-Ratt

One of my all time favorites. Good call :pointstosky:

But not my favorite from Ratt :ninja:

I like two others above that.

#2

#1

Nothing like one of the most talented guitarist of his generation tuning his Charvel down to a D with a stack of Marshalls behind him. CRUNCH personified :headbanger:

Dumb question...Do instrumentals count? If so then Mr Scary had a great opening hook

Too bad Mr Lynch couldn't reproduce his studio versions as well live. Still a guitar god

Finally got curious enough to google the title:

Roger Daltrey sings most of the song, with Pete Townshend singing the middle eight: "Don't cry/don't raise your eye/it's only teenage wasteland". The song's title is a combination of the names of two of Townshend's philosophical and musical influences, Meher Baba and Terry Riley

Posty's choice of Train Train made me instantly think of another great harmonica hook
