Albums You Can Listen to Start to Finish

Recommended Posts

Name an album that you find you can load up and listen to end to end without feeling a strong desire to hit the "next track" button. I'll start things off with...

Soundgarden - Superunknown (1994, A&M Records)

1. Let Me Drown (3:51)
2. My Wave (5:12)

3. Fell on Black Days (4:42)

4. Mailman (5:06)
5. Superunknown (5:06)

6. Head Down (6:08)

7. Black Hole Sun (5:18)

8. Spoonman (4:06)

9. Limo Wreck (5:47)

10. The Day I Tried to Live (5:19)

11. Kickstand (1:34)

12. Fresh Tendrils (4:16)

13. 4th of July (5:08)

14. Half (2:14)

15. Like Suicide (7:01)

16. She Likes Surprises (3:18)

Soundgarden was the first of the famed Seattle-scene bands, but surprisingly the last of the group to have a major breakthrough album. Superunknown makes a strong case as one of the best rock albums of the 90s. Aside from the five tracks that were released as singles (all of which landed in the Modern Rock Tracks top 25) is the criminally underappreciated "4th of July". Chris Cornell's vocal range was never tested quite as much on this record as some previous work ("Say Hello 2 Heaven" from the Temple of the Dog project and "Jesus Christ Pose" from the band's previous record, Badmotorfinger) but there is little doubt that he boasted the most talented vocal chords of the era (which he nearly destroyed on the subsequent tour from gross overuse).

I'm gonna go with U2 - Achtung Baby

1. Zoo Station (4:36)

2. Even Better Than The Real Thing (3:41)

3. One (4:36)

4. Until The End of the World (4:39)

5. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (3:57)

6. So Cruel (5:50

7. The Fly (4:29)

8. Mysterious Ways (4:04)

9. Tryin to Throw Your Arms Around the World (3:53)

10. Ultraviolet (5:31)

11. Acrobat (4:30)

12: Love is Blindness (4:23)

The album marks a dramatic change in the band’s image and sound, with the band being heavily influenced by alternative rock and electronic music. Their music also features more detailed production, more guitar effects, and darker, more personal lyrical content. The results were considerably more adventurous than their previous efforts, yet Achtung Baby was very commercially and critically successful, winning a Grammy Award and having sold approximately 18 million copies worldwide. In 2003, the album was ranked number 62 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The 6 bolded tunes were either singles or just got a lot of play on the radio. Most of them still do. I love song on this album and it was a really massive change from The Joshua Tree, which was also incredible. All this typing about it, I just convinced myself to go throw it on again.

Agreed, though I figured that this is a spinoff from the other thread where Appetite was mentioned. Therefore, I just skipped it.

I agree. I wasn't saying I can't listen to it now. If you haven't heard it in a while and turn it up really loud, it is awesome.

Beastie Boys- Licensed to Ill.

I recorded that onto cassette off the radio. Separate devices, not a radio/cassette combo. Still have the tape. Missed slow and low rewinding.
