Roger Goodell refuses to go to New England, going to Atlanta 2 weeks in a row

Recommended Posts

what a gutless coward.

To the surprise of no one, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will attend the NFC championship game this weekend in Atlanta. It will be the second straight week he’ll attend a Falcons home playoff game. In this case, geographic diversity was not on the table.
The AFC title game is in Foxborough, Mass., after all, home to the New England Patriots. Goodell hasn’t been there since deflate-gate broke two years ago, a time that turned the commissioner into a pariah among the Patriots and their fans.
While Goodell’s desire to avoid angry chants, inhospitable signs and general disdain is understandable on a human level, on a professional one this is a disservice to the league.
The man is paid a reported $44 million to take the heat. Running from the NFL’s most stubbornly successful franchise adds fuel to the belief that the investigation and punishment of the Patriots and their star quarterback, Tom Brady, was personal and not based on defensible facts or tactics.
Goodell is loath to discuss the details of deflate-gate, usually just broadly declaring the case as an unfortunate part of the job, business as usual, something that needed to be done.
Fair enough, but if that’s the case, then why hide?

Who are the refs for the Pats game? It seems to me the refs have not been throwing a lot of flags this post season. Be funny if they all of a sudden started flying in the championship games.

Football Zebras has confirmed that Bill Vinovich will be the referee for the NFC Championship game and Terry McAulay will lead the crew in the AFC Championship.

I don't have a huge problem with this. Would just be an unnecessary distraction for the league.

He doesn't go he gets blasted for it. If he goes everyone saying what an inappropriate distraction it is.

If Goodell goes to the game you biotch because he is there. If he doesn't go to the game you biotch because he isn't there. You guys are like MDC biotching about Bush and RP biotching about Obama.

Maybe he just couldn't get a ticket?

And WTF is up with this whole "New England" thing? No one city wants to claim them?

It's not the New England Red Sox for Chrissake.

Fock it, I'm talking to the Bowlens -

From now on, it's the Rocky Mountain Broncos.

Agreed. That being said, at some point he needs to go there, unless he is retiring soon. His mistake was not getting it out of the way, say, during some regular season game. I suspect he'll do that next year.

I don't give a flying fock where Goodell is this weekend. He can watch the games in a bar for all I care. I just want to see Kraft rip the Lombardi trophy from Goodell's hands as Goodell is presenting it to the Pats on Feb 5th.

I want to see Brady accept the trophy and smash it onto the field in the face of that pos and walk off into the sunset.

First he came for the Saints. And we said nothing. And then he came for the Pats. Fawk that mother fawking turd. He's a coward piece and I hope he dies a horrible horrific death.

The real nail in the coffin for goddell will be the chargers moving to LA to a 30K soccer stadium. Cut into the owners revenue sharing and they'll turn.

Saints was their own fault

Deflategate was dumb

But hurt the owners money? That's the turning point

But Goodell, while.deserving of blame on many fronts, doesnt really deserve the blame for the San Diego mess does he? Billionaire owner wants new stadium. Wants tax payers to pay for it in a different location. Bill gets shot down.... don't a lot of the owners help tremendously with the cost of their teams new stadiums or renovatons?

I'm sure he will get blamed for it but it's probably the last thing to point to

Don't the owners vote on such moves? Seems like they can't really blame him on that one...

Easily the most effeminate ref in the league. "Hoe-deen, #67 off the offense....."

The LA Chargers will soon be sold for a record price tag, thereby increasing the market value of all NFL franchises.

And nobody in LA will care. No fanbase will really be "lost" or "damaged".

And Goodell will again get credit for making the owners even more money.

The issue is that the commissioner of the NFL has such a poor relationship with some franchises that he can't even visit their stadiums and games. This does not at all sound like a fair and balanced person that should command power over all teams evenly.

And as much as I'd like to see Brady accept the Lombardi trophy and then smash it on the ground in front of Goodell... the CBA would then allow Goodell to banish Brady from the NFL, and suspend Belichick and Garropolo indefinitely because... as decided by the Supreme Court... the NFL commissioner can do whatever he wants as stated in the CBA.

Teams that cheat definitely hate Goodell. And im sure he has no problem with that. The feeling's mutual.

Why would he go? It's clear they don't want him there.

What's he gonna do? Sit in Kraft's box and try to pretend there's no bad blood?

Sit in the stands and be heckled relentlessly?

They could give him a penalty box like area. Totally enclosed in bullet-proof glass so that he does not have to fear for his safety. Then we can pelt the box with tomatoes and feces.

At the end of the day, Kraft and Goodell sit down together with a cigar and laugh at everybody.

it would be the most epic, irreverent, and loved moment in Boston sports... Brady accepts the trophy, smashes it, walks away and retires.

I don't know... Billionaires have egos... and Goodell made Kraft look like a man that agreed to get along for everyone's sake but then got blindsided and slapped around for putting his guard down.

Goodell stuck it up Kraft's ass pretty publicly.

Yes he did. The second time. He let him skate quite easily the first. That's usually how penalties work.

Now that I think of it, he should have gone to KC last week, then he could have chosen the Falcons this week (or whichever NFC team hosted) and called fairsy-wairsy between the conferences.

I presume KC had a heated skybox somewhere, otherwise I'd say fock that and take yer medicine,.

No they didn't. Not one player who was suspended by Goodell had their suspension upheld. If you were maliciously trying to injure players, the players would have been suspended. Not one player was. They were all reversed because they couldn't find ONE instance where a player was trying to injure another. Now go put on your Eagles Super Bowl shirt. Wait.....

LOL Yeah, I guess it must have been my imagination when I heard the recording of Greg Williams' locker room speech telling his players to destroy Crabtree's ACL. Scumbag organization.

Love how you hate Goodell for not wanting bounties out to injure the league's players. You take homerism to a special needs kinda level.
