24 hours in NYC

Recommended Posts

Never been before and I'm going for basically 24 hours.

What should I do?

I assume Manhattan is the place to go?

Interested in the landmarks. Would want to get a sense of the NYC life and culture but there will be no time for that.

TIA

To prepare yourself fill up a small classroom with about 800 people that all smell like Aqua Velva and disappointment.... that are all yelling forget about it in some ridiculous Italian accent.

Have a mixtape of honking horns and gunfire order up a bunch of pizzas and then make a trip somewhere where humans actually want to go.

I never tipped a cow so you got me there.

When will you be there? I go twice a month for work, maybe could meet up for a beer. I work in the Flatiron district and take the train from Penn Station.

I'm more into culture than history and like the bars, restaurants, bohemian vibe etc. Greenwich Village is by far my favorite part of Manhattan. Obvious joke here.

Depends on what you're into.

Art - The Met

Musicals - Broadway

Tourist attractions - Ellis Island or Ground Zero

Central Park is really an oasis amidst the chaos of the rest of the city. Some people love it.

Food - get some good pizza.

You should also ask HT. He can Google all sorts of interesting places for you to visit.

1/27, would be happy to meet Geeks for a drink if it can work out logistically

9/11 memorial seems like a no-brainer.

Times Square just to say I've been?

Would go to Statue of Liberty but that's a whole trip in itself. But maybe somewhere I could get a good look at it.

Not crazy into art, broadway, etc. All things I'd like to see if I had more time but I think this is more about hitting a few landmarks and just taking it all in. Never been to NYC before and not likely to be back that way for at least a few years

First time I went to New York, the day we were to go to Greewhich Village, I told the old Irish cabbie that I wanted to be dropped off at John St. Cabbie: You do know that is the phag part of the burrogh?

I have done just about every touristy thing you can do in NYC or purposely not done them.

Statue of Liberty is fun for a trip but a huge waste if you are there for a day.

Go up in Freedom Tower (never been) but it's probably better than the Empire State Building.

Times Square is good for 10 minutes.

Pick one very respected restaurant for a meal or see a show.

One big piece of advice is study the Subway maps and use it. The Subway gets you around quicker than anything, and can really help you cram things in.

All depends on what you're looking for….if you want to the real NYC experience go to Hell's Kitchen, the Village or Alphabet City…Central Park would be great spot, but with inauguration on tomorrow, there are protests lined up around Trump buildings, which are located on both sides of the park. Good spot to get drinks is the Mean Fiddler @ 47th between 7th and 8th (think thats where it is).

If you are going to 9/11 memorial the the observation deck at Freedom Tower is a must see.

If you are visiting mid town (Times Square) then observation deck in Rockefeller Center(Top of the Rock) - much better views then Empire State -

My question is why only 24 hours ?

I am planning to stay out of the subway. I know from my first trip to DC that there is a learning curve associated with their use. Doesn't take long to get it down and once you have it down they are GREAT. But I don't want to spend my one day figuring out how the fock it works

Work trip with very short window for piling on extra time

If you want to see the Statue of Liberty in a quick, close and effective way, just take the Staten Island Ferry. It's free and it'll take you right by it. You get off the ferry and then right back on it and head back to Manhattan.

What should he do for the other 30 minutes? :dunno:

Go to the men's bathroom and buy a piece of bubble gum that says "ribbed for her pleasure" and chew vigorously while you wait.

This should be a coffee table book, one that mostly non-Americans would go for. 24 hours in NYC. I'll spare you guys from the more detailed plan for it that came to mind, but I can completely visualize this.

I went with my wife for a week, to be honest I do not think NY would not be much fun by yourself. If I went back by myself I would probably only go to the museum of natural history and to a top flight restaurant.

And have the coffee table book actually be a coffee table. With little legs and cup holders

Personally, short visit:

Ny Pizza. Famous Rays of any variety.

I know you're not big into 'art', but find live theatre.

This is the nexus of America; "FlyOver Kids" coming

to New York to make NY what it is - America.

Walk around Time Square. Ny is nothing if not people watching.

Find a NY cop and just thank him/her for their duty.

Eat a "Dirty Water Dog". Won't be good. Will be a memory.

Stop Looking back or forward - Start Looking Up; That's New York.

I've already copyrighted that. That too, is New York.

And last, find someone speaking a foreign language.

Thank them for coming to New York, to America.

These are scary days for them. For us as well.

Remind them that without them, there is no us.
