Judge: No jail time for heroin dealer, because he wasn't an addict

SALEM, MA -- It paid to be a family man Tuesday for Manuel Soto-Vittini, 32, of Peabody, as a judge decided he didn;t deserve jail time after pleading guilty to a charge of drug possession with intent to distribute. Salem Superior Court Judge Timothy Feeley ignored a request by prosecutor's for a one- to three-year jail sentence because Soto-Vittini was not an addict and was selling drugs to support his family.
"This was basically a money crime," Feely said as he sentenced Soto-Vittini to two years of probation, according to the Salem News, which first reported this story. Feely also said he was worried a jail sentence would result in Soto-Vittini being deported.
Three years ago Soto-Vittini was arrested after Salem Police broke up and drug deal and found more than half an ounce of heroin hidden in a secret compartment in his car.

It's not the first time Feely has released convicted felons over the objections of prosecutors. In a 2016 dangerousness hearing he released Daniel D. Beauvais, 48, of Salem, on bail, after he was indicted on charges that he repeatedly sexually abused a 12-year-old girl and after a different judge called Beauvais a "serial sexual abuser."
More recently -- and more notably -- Feely was one of two judges who reduced bail for 29-year-old John Williams after Massachusetts State Police arrested him on firearms and other charges. Feely reduced his bail to $5,000 in March. In April, Feely allegedly shot and killed a sheriff's deputy in Maine while out on bail.

Penultimate will be happy to hear this. He is the crusade leader for the decriminalization of all drugs and drug related crimes. He will not rest until drug dealers have the freedom to peddle meth and heroine at your kids middle school crosswalk.

Now now. I don't quite think that is what he's saying.

If drugs were legalized and controlled, there would be no drug dealers, because there would be no need for it.

Are there any booze and cigarette hustlers?

Point taken but any way you slice it, its an extremely odd stance to take especially for a doctor (lol hard to even type that anymore.). Heroin, crack, meth being more available than they are has no positives and would be an absolute blight on society.

He just supports the punishments being lessened, Im busting balls and know he doesnt want them legal on every corner.

Obviously a liberal judge. That being said, I'm all for legalizing heroin with the stipulation that Narcan is completely unavailable to anyone who ODs. You let nature take it's course. We can clean up a lot of trash this way. Instead of Narcan, we equip the 1st responders with body bags. Then all they do is bag 'em and call the meat wagon.

Maybe you get 1 free pass in a lifetime.

What we don't need, are desperate, sick junkies, roaming the streets, willing to do anything to not be sick.

Portugal decriminalised drugs 14 years ago – and now hardly anyone dies from overdosing
