Funny you mention the nazis, as Hitler oaths were a part of the indoctrination process.

Hitler was just a man. Liberty and Justice are beautiful concepts that everyone should strive for and last through the ages into eternity.

Its kind of an odd thing.

We "force" (not physically, but kids who wouldn't stand for it would be shunned) kids to pledge an allegiance to the flag. Many who have zero clue what they are even saying or understand the words.

When we are older and understand...we don't really do the pledge.

Seems that a country where we are very prideful of our freedom, pledging allegiances doesn't really line up to being free.

What's odd?

Teach those concepts in history, social studies and civics class. And reinforce them at home, along with critical thought.

Tried that. You bitched and moaned we referenced the Confederates.

It is one thing china and America have in common.

Everyone 100% believes as a matter of religious dogma that they live in the greatest country in the world. If asked why, they have no real answer usually. Most of them have never even been anywhere else. It just is. Like the sky is blue. Like water is wet.

It is because they are indoctrinated to believe so, rather than TAUGHT valid reasons for believing so.

This has the added downside of making fixing what problems exist difficult, as people are trained to think everything is wonderful.

Enough about focking China dude. Good Lord.

Teachers, those that attend stuff like scout meetings, maybe a moose lodge or something?

I did follow up research and it seems that the author was one of the founding members of the christian socialist movement and pushed hard for socialism to overtake capitalism. He was even fired from his job and forced to move because of pushing socialist propaganda.

 

The original author of the pledge stated that the goal of the pledge was to indoctrinate young kids.

 

I agree with Titan's it is odd that this is what we have kids say in school given its background. That is 30 minutes I will not get back, although I learned something. I had no idea of the origins of the pledge.

I went to my 7 year olds school today for donuts and dad. They did the pledge and then sang America the Beautiful.

I cant believe they endorse an event for Dads only showing up. Good for them. What about the feelings of those without Dads? Im sympathetic to that, but you cant shut everything down cuz someone may be offended.

Both our elementary and middle schools have had these events. Announced as Dad, grandfather or any male role

model kind of thing. A way to get men involved at the school as most volunteers are women.

Only one of the kids did not have a dad show up. He has a father at home, but I guess he was busy or something. Hes a good friend of my daughter, so I sort of acted as pseudo dad for him. He was definitely bummed though. All the kids made little gifts for their dads and whatnot.

Haha. I live in California. But its Orange County, which is pretty conservative. Furthermore, its Newport Beach, which is 2nd most conservative city in CA. Im pretty much the only guy in my group of friends that leans left (mostly just because I believe in MMGW and Im Pro-Choice). My parents are both retired teachers though. Cant help it. :cheers:

Trump is the problem one way for sure with his obstruction of justice and press intimidation among other things. It's awful. But it's also a pick your poison type thing as the loony left is off the deep end as well. I still think the damage Trump is doing is less offensive and more easily fixed.

Pledge of Allegiance is like saying Yes Sir to and older man, or opening the door for a woman, or like singing happy birthday. Is it a huge deal? No. But how can you really be against it?

For the record, Im not really strongly against it. I just think the people who think its vital are silly.

 

Honestly, I think they stopped doing it when I was in grade school anyway. So the answer to the thread title is, long time ago, at least where Im from.

I get it. To be honest the premise of this thread is sort of silly. But......

 

I think they do it in elementary school only. When you are a kid, learning about ...family to community to city to state to country. Normal things. Gah.
