Surveillance system help needed....

Recommended Posts

I want to put up some cameras at my dad's and be able to just watch them from my house whenever I want LIVE. I also want the ability to store a few days worth of footage in case I ever need it to prosecute someone. I am getting very paranoid that someone is going to bust in there. I go there at least twice a week and have some of the neighbors watching it for me too.

They will need to have the ability to see in the dark, so night vision will be a must.

There is just too much stuff over there I am worried about. I tried to get my son to get the safe out of the house so we could bring it here where we are and he could not do it. It heavy as fock.

So does anyone here work in surveillance???

I need advice on what to get and how to do it.

Do I need professional system?? Do I need an HD system??? Is it best to just hire a professional to come set me up???

I have some friends that will help me install if it will save tons of money. :) I am blessed with great friends. One of my friends helped me bury a cat of my dad's that already died on me. :( Another friend helped me fix the lawn mower. :)

Is it best to get a whole system already together vs buying everything separate???

Is it best to get one with a DVR???

How do I make it where I can see all the cameras LIVE remotely???

I am not going to drop 5K on a system or anything like that. However, I am willing to pay for a good system, I would like to keep it under 2K though if at all possible.

Surely some of the geeks have security cameras they can watch remotely that have been down this road. :)

Like said above, you will need internet at your dad's house for it to work. You can record to DVR without internet but won't be able to view live from another location.

Most systems in a box run between 300-700 bucks and for a small house with an accessible attic it should come with enough wire to do everything you would need.

I would go to a store that sells them like a local Sams Club or Costco and see what they have set up on display. Check out how clear they are and play with them a bit to decide.

I bought a Samsung system, 16 channel and 10 cameras and a 2 TB hard drive on sale for less than 500 bucks.

It's still sitting in the box because my install here is going to be a pain in my ass but hopefully this summer I'll hook it all up.

Also, I'm not saying Samsung is the way to go and it might end up being crap, just telling you what I bought.

lol.

Nope, I still have not really bought anything for myself. Well, I did buy a 24 inch monitor at Walmart two weeks ago that was on sale. Other than that, I have not bought myself a damn thing. lol

Well, just in the garage, there are literally thousands and thousands of dollars, just in like hand tools like wrenches and ratchets and just anything you can think of that is a hand tool. He has two roll away cabinets so full of tools, half the drawers can't be shut. He been collecting tools for about 50 years though. He has 3 welders, all kinds of power tools, air compressor and all the air tools to go with that as well. Torches, ramps, , electrical testers and chargers(Like battery for example) and shtt, just about anything you could ever need to work on a something.

There are all kinds of other things to like weed eaters, and blowers, jack-stands, floor-jacks, ramps, a John Deer Riding Mower, A 55 Willys Jeep, and a 1989 Van. Just all kinds of shtt.

Friend of mine had a similar situation. Each fmaily member was in each room of the house etc. they had a one day sale. They had some family that was good at antique values and they each sold a room of stuff. One whole day cleared it out.

:)

Actually, I am really hot for the neighbors. Two women (One is 36DD, the other is prolly 32B) and a daughter(32C). Daughter has laid out two of the three times I have been over there cutting grass. :D Gives something good to look at. She white as fock too, so might need to lay out a bunch. :D

I have already exchanged numbers and talk with the two women almost every time I go over there. They are outside a lot. I told them to call me if they see anyone over there besides my truck. :D

Today, I met some other neighbors of dad's. He has three acres, it is like a long, narrow, rectangle. So he has a total of 5 different neighbors. The houses are pretty high end. The one the two woman live in is the closest to where the house is sold for 225 thousand a few years ago. It is pretty nice. The other 4 are worth far more. Dad's is not worth that, but, with all the property, it might be close.

My main point is I felt comfortable letting them know what happened to my dad and having them watch the house when they are outside or whatever for me. Someone that lives in a house worth a quarter of a million dollars or more is prolly not going to be breaking in a house to steal shtt.

Yeah, I figure I would get some internet at his house for this and maybe for us(My son and I) when we go over there and spend the night and shtt. We going to spend the night a few times to see if we like it. Going to wait at least 6 months before make big decisions, like which house we going to live in for example.

Okay, so I will need internet.....I understand.....to view it live.....which is almost a must...

I need to view it live and record it so if something ever happens, I can go back and look.

Those prices sound pretty reasonable. I am looking at some that are more, but, it likely more than I need anyway. THat why I am asking for help. Thanks...

Whatever you do... do not have an auction... you will get fleeced

Hell no, not selling anything right now. Good thing is my parents left me in great shape as far as all there stuff is concerned. Every vehicle is paid off. The house is paid off. The new garage they had built 7 years ago is paid off. Everything is paid off. I just need to keep it all up, taxes, insurance, that kind of stuff.

I might sell some things here and and there, individually. But not having some big sale anytime soon. I have other shtt I can sell to get cash if I need it that is much easier to deal with. :)

At a yard sale or auction, other than the jeep, your talking a grand worth of stuff. Seems silly to spend that kind of money on surveillance to keep an eye on old ass tools.

Good luck.

Bad auctioneer.

The complete opposite happened to my grandmother. Auctioneer took 20% of what the total sales were.

I'd hire a company to run all the wire. The big thing is you should want everything hard wired. A lot of the systems and exterior cameras are plug in, so they can be easily disconnected

You should be able to get everything done for 1500-2000 for a few exterior and interior cameras

Didn't read the whole thread but Costco has some pretty reasonable wireless systems these days. Put one similar to this in one our convenience stores last year.

Thanks. Way more than that in there. Plus, the garage is the least of my worries. I am more worried about what is in the house.

I did find out today that the homeowners insurance is paid through the year, so I have plenty of time to decide what I want to do. If I want to sell it. Move into it, or rent it. Highly doubt I will rent it. I may move into and think about renting my place out though. The houses around me that are the same house rent for about 600+ a month.

I would never want to be a landlord. See what a realty place would charge to handle it for you. They take the calls and handle problems. I think they might charge something like 10% and you pay for repairs.

Yeah, only way I see myself doing something like rent it out is to help a friend.
