What artist has the most songs that the most people know?

Recommended Posts

If those huge populations have heard her, and almost all the medium and smaller pops have, yet the medium and smaller pops don't necessarily hear the artists big in China or India...then...

This might be Algebra.

The 13-25 set have heard of them. Older people haven't. It's just like anywhere else. Older people don't keep up.

And Korean pop is far more popular here than American.

It sounds like they need to hear Johnny Cash if they are wooed by Hey Jude.

It wasn't really hey Jude. It was a bad chinky karaoke interpretation.

One of the things that sucks as an American abroad is, only the most sh!tty, mass marketed drek from our culture gets popular here. Food? McDonald's, KFC, and Pizza Hut. Probably the worst of their respective genres.

Music? Mainly just the pop trash.

Movies? Animated sh!t, Star Wars reboots, super hero crap. Etc.

And for a while they actually aired game of thrones here. But they edited all the nudity, violence, and "politically subversive dialogue" out.

I had a friend say GOT sucks. I told him he'd never actually seen it, and copied the real version over for him. He likes it now.

The Beatles?

What radio station is playing them?

What movies use their music?

Which artists remake their songs?

Elton John trump's the Beatles.

Tom Petty?????? Haha haha!

Why young and old know more Elton John over the Beatles?

The Lion King

Can you feel the love tonight

Circle of life

Princess Diana died so Candle in the wind was popular

George Michael remade Don't let the sun go down on me or whatever it's called

Kids don't know any Beatles songs even though I do.

I'm talking black, white, Latino young, old. They have heard the Lion King songs and could sing along. What Beatles song or Tom Petty (ridiculous) song could a 10 year old sing?

For this exercise, who cares what a 10 year old thinks, in a few years they are going to realize what ever they are listening to stinks

Michael Jackson and the Beatles were the first two I thought of.

Same here...it's a ton of songs and seems to cross races and even cultures.

Queen has a lot too.

Really?

Hot Rocks is the best selling best of any band.

The Eagles ate a clean second.

Really.. Was never a Stones fan, I guess maybe bcoz my parents weren't either - never heard them growing up... I appreciate their contribution to Rock, but they do nothing for me.

I think everyone is getting off track.... It went from: what bands most people know, to what bands most people posting in this thread know.. Queen is great, but we're talking about "most people" in general.

That's why I said Madonna... Half the people on the planet are women, are they more likely to know Queen or Madonna?

Classic Rock Stations still play the Beatles, there was also an immensly popular tribute act that toured the world.

In 2014, Maroon 5, John Legend, Alicia Keys, John Mayer,

Keith Urban, Pharrel Williams, Katy Perry, Imagine Dragon, Dave Groohl and others were on a CBS special covering Beatles songs as a tribute to the band.

Here are Some Covers from other artists:

https://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2010/11/the-50-best-beatles-covers-of-all-time.html?a=1

One of Elton's hits was his cover of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds

One of the most popular videos circulating the web in the wake of Prince's death was of him playing lead guitar on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Their songs have been used in dozens of movies TV shows and commercials. The first time a Beatles song was ever used in a commercial was when Nike used Revolution in their commercial for running shoes.

Some others:

Ferris Bueller

Children of Men

American Beauty

The Royal Tannenbaums

The Social Network

I am Sam

A Bronx Tale

The Wonder Years

Bowling for Columbine

Target commercial

Kohl's commercial

2007's Across the Universe was a movie that features all Beatles Music

You stand corrected.

Thank you for doing that far more thoroughly than I had the inclination to do.

You forgot that the cirque de soleil show that toured worldwide as well.

The Beatles are the most covered act of all time. Bar none.

All three editions of the Beatles anthology were monster sellers. Every kid in my high school had it. This was released decades after they broke up.

Even people who say they don't know the Beatles do. You play a few songs and they are like "oh yeah, I know this."

Yeah. I think most people who claim not to know or like the Beatles are just being postyish for the helluvit.

Just last week I was kind of singing along to "I saw her standing there" playing on Muzak in line at the grocery store. My daughter's friend laughed and said "You're singing Tiffany!" I was like "That's the Beatles you little Philistine."

What was the question?

Here, let me put it right here for you:

What artist has the most songs that the most people know?

What song did the Beatles make that a person who is 80, 60, 40, 20 and 10 can sing? I have an Elton John song that those groups can sing from start to finish.

Are the Beatles great? They're fcking icons, legends, but their music is not as known as Elton John's thanks to Disney.

the title does say artist, not band/group

so that rules out quite a few, like the Beatles, Stones, Tom Petty is questionable

MJ is the easy winner

David Bowie

and

Billy Idol is up there too. Just looking for someone not mentioned

I could say the same about any contemporary artist today. It is all about who you hang out with. I know no one that has a Bruno Mars/Taylor Swift/Beyonce album. :dunno:

Patty and Mildred J. Hill

Wrote the 'Happy Birthday' song.

Generally considered to be the most widely and well known song in the English Language.

It has been converted into 93 other languages ranging from Tamil to Urdu to the 'clicking language' of Xhosa found in South Saharan Africa.

Attribution and Provenance of this song however, is at question as versions of this song's lyrics have been found in portions of both the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Codex of Shurrapath as recounted in The Epic of Gilgamesh

also I made up everything after the 3rd line.

My sons were watching your movie today(Sing), and the very first song (Golden Slumbers) was written and released by the Beatles in 1969.

Got anything else to add?
