By the time you read this, we will probably have those figures. But just keep one thing in mind when you take a look at the numbers: The Obama administration’s figures do not include people who have stopped looking for work, but still want jobs. That accounts for 6.3 million Americans. The number of adults in the workforce has gone down from about 67% to 63%. Also keep in mind that there are fewer Americans working today than there were when Obama was inaugurated. This is not a good thing, considering that our population is always growing. If we had the same number of people in the labor force now as we did when Dear Ruler came into power, our unemployment rate would be 10.9%. Add in all of those people they are no longer counting, and those who are working part-time just to get by but would like a full-time job, the unemployment rate rises to 14.5%. Know this … the methodology behind generating an unemployment figure has changed. This methodology is determined and implemented by that branch of government know as the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch has a CEO – and that CEO is Barack Obama. Private sector CEOs have strict government guidelines they must adhere to in reporting financial and jobs information. There are no strict and enforceable guidelines that apply to the Executive Department in reporting unemployment numbers. The media has for the past three years been making a huge deal about the factoid that no president since World War II has been reelected with an unemployment rate above 8%. Job one – by whatever means necessary – is to make sure that unemployment rate is below 8% come November. If it isn’t – if no way can be found to make that work – there’s always Bush to blame. There’s also another measurement out there … the weekly jobless numbers. As Elizabeth McDonald points out, “For 59 out of the last 60 weeks, the weekly jobless numbers have been revised, after the fact, always in the same direction: higher. That's unheard of.” Methinks this is not a coincidence. These revisions are considered after thoughts. It allows the administration to control the initial message and then correct it after the fact when no one is really looking.
