Draft Advice - 14 Team PPR Keeper League

Recommended Posts

After a number of trades last season, I now have the following picks:

  • Two 1st round picks. 6th overall and 12th overall (I'm slotted in the 12th spot).
  • Two 7th round picks.
  • Two 9th round picks (one goes to my keeper).
  • No 3rd round pick.
  • No 13th round pick.

David Johnson is my keeper for my 9th round pick. The following players are kept:

  • ODB
  • Kelce
  • Jordan Reed
  • Terrelle Pryor
  • Paul Perkins
  • Dak Prescott
  • TY Hilton
  • Amari Cooper
  • Other teams chose to not keep anyone

My question is how would you start your draft knowing you have two 1st round picks, DJ as your keeper and no 3rd? Would you prefer to start with something like this:

  • Gordon/Freeman (6th)
  • Jordy (12th)
  • Dez (17th)
  • DJ as keeper

Or...

  • Julio/Evans/Green (6th)
  • Murray (12th)
  • Dez (17th)
  • DJ as keeper

Or...

  • Julio/Evans/Green (6th)
  • Murray (12th)
  • Gronk
  • DJ as keeper

I'm leaning toward grabbing Gordon 1st, as this league typically goes RB heavy early on. But starting a team with a top WR is temping like Julio, Evans or AJ is tempting. Thoughts?

Thx. At what point to you consider Gronk in rd2? I'm thinking if no Dez/Thomas and all I see is Baldwin/Thomas/Hopkins...I may go Gronk. Starting with a team of DJ/Gordon/Jordy and Gronk wouldn't be too shabby

Gronk would fit in real nicely with our teams line up.

I'd ignore option 3 because I dont believe you should draft Gronk that high. he gets hurt way too often to take a chance like that.

Demarco Murray may actually outperform Gordon this year although Gordon has the better long term value. for that reason I'd go option 2.

No guarantees of course, but fftoday predicts Gordon will score 10 fantasy points more than Murray. I had Murray ahead of Gordon by about the same amount on my list,i but most people seem to prefer Gordon this year. In the end, both RB's carry roughly the same value (in my opinion)

FFtoday has Julio 10 - 15 points ahead of Jordy and evans

This is probably a reasonably fair estimate in my opinion.

so it likely does not matter much whether you use scenario 1 or 2 from a fantasy scoring perspective.

I do find RB's tougher to replace if one gets hurt or suspended than WR, so my preference would be to make sure I get the RB I am wanting.

but that's MY preference. and based on the projection, there is no data to indicate my preference is the best. the data suggests both options are good.

another suggestion would be this:

if both options turn out roughly the same fantasy points, maybe you should just pick the players YOU like best. it makes it more fun to have players you actually like on your fantasy team

so in the end this is likely looking to be a wash. when that happens for me, It's more a matter of preference and I pick the players I want to cheer for.

Yea I hear you thanks for your advice. I just dont like the WRs after Dez and Thomas are off the board (Baldwin, DThomas, Hopkins, Robinson)...if I'm faced with those as WR2 options in the 2nd and Gronk is there, I may just pull the trigger. Then hope for Landry/Tate/Crabtree waiting for me in the 4th.

not a bad plan, but I wouldnt worry if Gronk goes to someone else. There are plenty of good options at TE this year (in my opinion) I personally prefer Kelce.

the important thing is that you can likely wait 2-3 rounds and still get a very good TE.

Just wrapped up my draft. Let's just say it didn't go as I expected as RBs went really early and stud WRs fell. Thoughts on my team?

QB: Luck

RB: DJohnson, CJ Anderson, Riddick, Dixon, Booker

WR: Julio, Evans, Diggs, John Brown, Tyrell Williams

TE: Gronk, Allen

K: Bryant

DST: Seattle

14 team PPR. Happy with my team but not happy w CJ at RB2.

it's still a pretty good team overall.

I guess with CJA as your #2, you could have used more depth in terms of backups, but its not very often you will pick a team that doesnt have one weakness of sorts.

I think you can fix your issue with an astute trade or waiver wire pickup, you just need to keep your eyes open.

one solid pickup of a RB on the waiver wire(or via trade), and you could ride your way to the championship.
