44% of younger Americans believe Obama had a bigger impact than George Washington...

Recommended Posts

The survey of 1,078 Americans, conducted by internationally recognized polling firm YouGov, starkly reveals that younger Americans (under 38 Gen Z and Millennials) are becoming unmoored from the institutions, knowledge, and spirit traditionally associated with American patriotism.

Among the surveys key findings:

  • Half of those surveyed believe the United States is sexist (50%) and racist (49%);
  • American exceptionalism is on the decline. 46% of younger Americans do not agree that America is the greatest country in the world;
  • 38% of younger Americans do not agree that America has a history that we should be proud of;
  • One in eight (14%) of Millennials agree that America was never a great country and it never will be;
  • 46% of younger Americans agree that America is more racist than other countries;
  • 84% of Americans do not know the specific rights enumerated in the First Amendment;
  • 19% of Millennials believe that the American flag is a sign of intolerance and hatred;
  • 44% of younger Americans believe Barack Obama had a bigger impact on America than George Washington

Seeing how Obama is responsible for the trump phenomenon and all that goes with it I would say it is yet to be seen

I think it is natural for youth to want to challenge their world, but these numbers suggest that this generation is rather stupid.

Well, to be fair, Obama did set back race relations about 50 years. That's a rather big impact, no?

Obama implemented the same strategy that the British did in India in a strategic sense; he divided people up, then get them to coalesce into a group of the dispossessed to then come back at America as being terrible.....it was a GREAT sales pitch for the time....but its a short term strategy, not one that will last....

So you have a party that has made hay by saying that identity politics is bad for decades, and a man in Obama who is African American and whose group correctly lays claim to this same objection......, both touting identify politics as being good and true.... really....really....weird sh!t

lol....we're still believing in polls? Please explain how 50% of these young tards can say America is racist? Individuals, and a very small percentage, are racists....NOT AMERICA!!! To even put a question like that in a poll shows just how focking stupid you are if you believe this poppyc0ck.

Sho and MDC believe this.

I would venture to guess that a majority of the posters at FBG agree as well...

I tell my daughter all the time.

If you don't want people to think you're stupid. Then don't go around doing stupid things, or hang out with stupid people.

Yep. I also tell my kids, mainly my eldest daughter, there is no shortage of crybabies out there whining about why they don't have more or have it better.....do not be one of those focking people.....step on their rotting carcasses as you run toward success. Ignore the chaff, even if you are less talented or capable than your peers, simply working hard will often allow you to succeed and pass them....nothing in this world is as effective as simply trying hard, working past the tough times, it eventually pays off

Obama didn't divide this country up, it was already divided. Obama didn't create racism, it was already and still is quite racist. However, it is my opinion that it is less racist today than it ever was. Do you actually think it was less racist in the Reagan or Bush years than the Obama years????

Obama is half white. Why do you all constantly and consistently say he is African American/Black. He does not have ANY black amercian heritage. His father was from Kenya and his mother is white. He has no history rooted in racism. He was not raised by any black people. Where, other than his personal experiences, would he even learn about racism?

Please post Obama's policies or speeches that you believe divided this country.

Furthermore, what racist things happen to you?? What racist things are happening to white people en masse??

Trust and believe, I could post plenty of things Trump has said that has caused others to openly display their hate for other groups. Note: I don't believe Trump or any person causes hate, it was there all along. Trump just has made the climate okay for people to say what they formerly kept to themselves.

Itsatip. It's not us that claim his is the first African American/Black President. It's your own people (himself included) and the press that pushed that narrative.

Well, he's not really. I mean...yes, he looks like us but ain't like us. That's my opinion. But I'd argue everyone knows this or I doubt he would've won the presidency. Michelle Obama is black, Barack is sorta black. Once again, my opinion.

Kind of like saying Mariah Carey is white. Yeah, she is but she's kind of not.

But how would you know? You mean, it's less racist towards you? Let me tell you, it's better for me, my friends and family today than it was anytime before now. In every way.

I disagree. His rhetoric encouraged division along lines of race, sex and religion, it was not a message of unification.

i am confused by your attempt to delineate Mr. Obama. So say he has no black american heritage is irrelevant, the entire notion put forth is that skin color matters, not heritage. it's not about where he was born or who his parents are, its about him growing up in a "system" that is purportedly racist, which it most assuredly is not.

Identity politics were his main go to, and you appear to be supporting the same notion that someone cannot have a valid opinion unless they have direct experience with something. i would suggest that you have no place then in speaking to any white person ever about silly notions of 'entitlement' since as an AA you have no experience in these areas, see how stupid that is?

Much of what you think is overly simplistic, identity-focused, and without any defensible logic at all.

I personally believe it keeps getting better all the time. As it should. But I also believe those that were/are truly racist became more vocal because of how Obama handled many issues dealing with the police.

I think the civil rights movement has made tremendous progress since the 1960's, its really a remarkable and laudable track record of constant progress.

I think under Obama we saw some backward movement, I am not clear yet as to whether or not Trump is helping. I know he is whipping the immature into a frenzie, but if the end result is more jobs then that automatically improves situations for the impoverished, for AA's in particular - though immigration is the greatest threat to AA progress right now.

Kinda funny how picky black people are about who is considered black but all us white people are the same. When in reality there is more culture diversity amongst Caucasian nations.

I do not think Trump is bringing people together, but I also cannot be sure that anyone - let alone a guy like Trump - can be expected to repair the 8 years of damage created by Obama. I also do not think Trump is really helping to unify all that much.

But if I am being honest, I also do not care..... if his economic policies are improving the economy, that matters, whether or not black people feel appreciated or comfy....i honestly do not give a flying fock....man up AA's, time to get on with life and stop being crybabies...

Maybe the next president can repair it, i doubt Trump is the guy to fix us up...

I see. Obummer did incalculable lasting damage to race relations by for example saying if he had a son he would look like Trayvon. But Trumps constant bigoted invective is a net even.

I think you are oversimplifying, while the Martin case is a factor, it is but one of many things. Trump is not really any better than Obama, he has a different way of dividing, but is a divider just as much (and perhaps more) than Obama was. The pendulum has swung, and I hope the next president is neither a Trump or an Obama, we have had enough of that sh!t.

Nobody is denying there was division under Obama's Presidency... 1st black President in history - you'd have to be a fool to think there wouldn't be.

People see what they want to see..... The fact so many are in denial that there's just as much division today, if not more - is proof enuff of that.

To any sane person Trump is infinitely more divisive than Obama or any other POTUS of either party in my lifetime. No other president has spent a fraction of the time name calling, accusing his political opponents of trying to destroy America, calling for violence or race baiting. Anybody comparing those 2 on divisiveness is revealing his own bias.

That is a non-starter, simply calling someone who disagree's with you insane without a legitimate argument is weak at best. You might disagree with me, but that does not make you insane or stupid, that is just being divisive.

Name calling is not the only way to be divisive, nor is the constant back and forth by all politicians calling each other out, there is no evidence of either man calling for violence (hint: that is actually a crime), but race baiting is something both subscribe to.

Not accepting that both men have their failures, have done divisive things, were imperfect leaders and had negative impacts on this nation is intellectually dishonest, pretending Obama did not do so is showing your own bias.

Whether Trump is worse, remains to be seen, we know the impacts of 8 years of Obama, the only fair comparison would be 8 years of Trump, the data set for Trump is too small right now.

I dont actually think youre insane. I think you say things you know arent true because youre led by your feelings and emotions. You know Trump is the most divisive president of your lifetime but you hate libruls so you form your opinion around your feelings rather than any facts. The irony is that you criticize people for being led by their emotions all the time when youre the worst offender here.
