Cheap Laptop?

Recommended Posts

So my daughters little laptop crapped out... I think we gave 100 for it 3 years ago.

Looking for something a little bit beefier... as both she and the boy are doing more and kore homework reports and we need another computer.

Not for gaming etc... just a decent homework browsing machine, though her and her little friends pkay roblox... so..

I've been looking at little sh!tty chromebooks the last couple days @ 1-200 ish. But I don't want a non-upgradable 2GB ram, and 32 GB SSD. I think I want a decent brand, but I'm not wanting to spend more than a couple hundred.

So... thinking of buying this:

https://express.google.com/u/0/product/11432426170727824426_921515790101594432_125181302?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=tu_cu&utm_content=eid-lsjeuxoeqt&gtim=CJ3X0pCV1vCuKhD2u7_Vp82YwaUBGPDikGQiA1VTRCigkvHgBTD2utg7&utm_campaign=125181302&gclid=Cj0KCQiAgMPgBRDDARIsAOh3uyK38i1ASBb4Y6BL_il59C0PupraMBrUL666s0f3GrY4wit8oFknstcaAu6bEALw_wcB

I can get it for under $200 right now... and it seems pretty easily upgradable to at least 8gb (1 slot) Ram and can take a regular 2.5 SSD upgrade.

Both are fairly cheap upgrades as I don't need a 2TB SSD or anything... I have a 256GB SSD from another laptop (already gor WIN 10 OS on it) that just dumped I can put in for free... just will need the drivers prior.

What do you think my computer Geeks?

After those upgrades, probably looking at a 4-500 machine maybe...

That processor is gonna be crap. I wouldn't go below a 2200 Ryzen or if you go Intel, an 8th gen i3. I think I paid 270 for an open box Lenovo with an 8th gen i3 and 8gb ram. I threw in an SSD and it's been working great for what I need it for. Were I you I'd spend a bit more than what you're looking at.

Probably a chromebook...some of they are sweet and battery life is unbeatable

For the same pricepoint man... they aren't really that good.

You're probably right though...

You're the one who got me hooked on Slickdeals. I'd just keep checking there. I just found the one I bought. It wasn't 270, 282 plus tax plus the cost of an SSD, which are getting super cheap and on this model it took me prolly less than an hour to transfer and replace the hard drive. It's only 720p screen though but should be great for your daughter. I use it every day and after adding the SSD it boots in like 25 seconds and has been a good little rig.

If you have a MicroCenter, go there and check out their refurbished laptops. I have never had an issue with them. We buy a lot of refurbished machines for work. You can get a great deal, and you can always add in new memory/drives.

Like fandady said, get an 8th gen Intel, 8gb ram and at least a 256gb ssd, and that will be more than enough.

HP makes a non chromebook version of their chromebook that sells for around $200. I had one a few years ago and it worked just fine for surfing the web, looking at porn, and the occasional word doc or xcel sheet.

Consider yourself lucky. My boys each want and are getting new gaming laptops. They are paying for half out of their savings but it's still costing me over a grand.

I picked up one a couple weeks ago for $600... its not the highest end but will play pretty much anything.

Unfortunately I just got sent back to South Dakota for 60 days... So I'm taking it with me.

My kids want a HTC Vive for their b-days so they both got this one. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834155022&Description=msi%20gl63%208re-629&cm_re=msi_gl63_8re-629-_-34-155-022-_-Product#close

Prolly overkill but I don't want to hear them complain in a year or two.

It's $20 less now than it was on cybermonday. :wall: :wall: :wall:

Also speaking of.. the 600 machine I just bought is 120 less today. should I call Walmart and try to get a partial? Or bring it back and repurchase?

I'm calling them to see if they'll price match.

Well for stupid... "no.. we can't refund the difference. Bring your's in for a return, and re-purchase."

Wow... dumb... but to save $100... fine. I didn't have anything on here anyway
