Who is your daddy, and what does he do?

Recommended Posts

My Dad was one of the Honor Guards on the USS Indianapolis when Yamamoto and Hitler officially signed a joint statement of surrender with Eisenhower and Winston Churchill. He was actually best friends with the guy who was supposed to do it - Harry Connick Sr. Whom he met at a LaisezLayMotMot Parade in the French Half on shore leave one time.

It was pretty cool; When the ceremony was over, my Dad had to drive Winston Churchill home - and in return, he gave my Dad a bottle of scotch and some nude Photos of Margaret Thatcher.

My Dad's BD was two days ago.

He passed away in November of 2012.

We thought my Mom would die on his BD a few days ago.

But she's still hanging on.

I'm sure Dad was up in heaven thinking "Can I just have ONE F'ing day without my Wife F'ing it up!?"

He's been dead since 1994 :(

With you as a son, that was the easy way out.

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery.

I was tempted...

Honestly, I always thought the term self-pleasuring would have worked better there.

2nd Battalion / 4th Marines - was stationed in Danang and Cambodia as a corpsman. His exposure to Agent Orange gave him diabetes and Prostrate Cancer

Came back from 'Nam with very little, tried going to vocational college, but his GI Bill ran out before he could finish. Worked changing tires/oil and got lad off on Xmas eve 1970. Started pestering an HR/Recruiter guy at Trane Co once a week for 4 months straight about a job. The guy was former military and ended up offering one to him because of his diligence. He worked for them for 44 years. Retired 4 years ago and spends EVERY day on the golf course, then on the river fishing in his $40k tricked out bass boat. Spends the rest of his time with his wife of 46 years (just diagnosed with bladder cancer) and his 5 grandsons.

He deserves every second enjoyment he gets.

My bio father lives about 10 mins from me. We did not have a good relationship growing up but it had a lot to do with the divorce and how I felt about him basically abandoning his 3 kids. I have since mended fences with him and we have a very good relationship. It helped that my step mom passed and I feel more comfortable coming around. He worked at gm for 34 years.

My step dad was a peach of a dude who died in 95 from MS. He was sprayed extensively with agent orange during 2 tours in vietnam. Quite simply he was the best person I have ever met and the man I model myself after each and every day. My son recently asked if he could touch a picture of him and I broke down in tears at the site of it. Hell I am tearing up just thinking about it. He was on disability all my life. Like real disability. Not this oh my legs hurt I can't work .

His name is Bob and he's got many similarities in psychological problems, work history, and smell as Giants Fan. Lacking rich parents to sponge off of, he instead he spent most of his life sponging off non-rich relatives.

Now he lives in government housing.

My Dad was a Marine (6 years) and then a truck driver for Chrysler (30 years). In that order. Was retired for a few years before being diagnosed with Muliple Myeloma. Died in September, 2008. He was pretty badass, 5 foot 7, never weighed over 150 lbs in his life, hands like vise-grips and forearms like Popeye. Between that and his Marine training, It wasn't until he was in his 60s and fighting cancer that I figured I could probably take him in a fight.

He got more out of his service time (lifelong friends, a sense of involvement and belonging, etc) than he did working (a paycheck). It makes sense that November 10th was a much bigger date to him than his own birthday in January.

Semper Fi, Dad!

- Pop was the oldest of 8.

- Became a father at 18 with me.

- Worked at Lennox Industries for 20 years.. (with no warning) One day they called everybody into a Friday meeting, said they sold the company, that was their last day - been nice knowing ya.

- Worked part time jobs, went back to school - finally got hired on at Bell Helicopter. Put in 25 years, mostly electrical wiring inside military aircrafts - lots of Cobra work.

- Outside of medical, never once saw him call in and miss work... Sickness, ice, snow, broken down car, you name it - he found a way to get to work.

- Man is incredible - pretty much all self taught, he can fix damn near anything.

- Walking around with 5 stents, decided to retire early - enjoy life.. Doing just that, playing plenty of golf and enjoying his family.

Died in 1977 and what he was doing that night was drinking, quite a bit.

Okay, crazy...but he died exactly 40 years ago yesterday. Didn't even realize it until I looked at the calendar this morning.

Started out in 3C camps in WW2, went to radio school, ended up driving tanks, saw patton. Got tired of the dirt and applied for army air corp and flew 35 missions in a b17 bomber before getting out. Became a draftsman/ engineer for a steel company. Died 5 years ago at 92. Still miss him. He could fix damn near anything and was great with woodworking tools.

He had a crazy habit of eating light bulbs. One night when I was a kid i got up to go to the bathroom and i heard him ask my mom "hey honey, if you turn out the light Ill eat it."

My Mom ran away from him when I was 3, I had a 1 year old brother and she was pregnant with my youngest brother. He beat the sh!t out of her quite regularly. My Mom was 17 when she had me, he was a couple years older.

I'm 42.. I've never met him, have heard stories here and there but, never made an effort. Last I heard he was a pastor swindling old folks out of money in a town a few hours away.
