I understand talking to someone because you do not like their online persona. However..

 

In the real world sometimes people go through like a divorce, job loss, illness, move to an expensive city, etc, and sharing a house/apt for a year or 2 while they get back on their feet or figure out their next move is exactly what they need. If most of their social circle is already married or living with significant others then CL is (or used to be) a popular place to look for shared living.

 

I have never found a place online but have friends and family who have done it and ended up in some pretty awesome housing/roommate situations they would have never found if they got an apartment by themselves in the burbs.
