Veganism: not actually cruelty free

Recommended Posts

Good article. Basically states, that those people here are being vegan because they want to be cruelty free with what they eat are actually wrong. Because most of the forced, slave labor is in agriculture. Specifically, South Africa where quinoa is mainly grown and exported while the residents there are literally starving.

I didn’t read the article, but there is no way to be cruelty free. We are all competing for limited resources.

But you can minimize your impact on the environment, instead of throwing your hands up at the inability to achieve perfection.

How are people starving in SA? I thought that was the gem of the continent and model for farming efficiency. I haven't been paying close attention for a couple decades. Please tell me the Negroes haven't taken over.

It's long and I got bored reading about a subject I don't care about.

I remember a chick who would only eat things that didn't kill the plant it came from. So even vegetables like potatoes, radishes, and carrots were out. I'm serious. All these rules about what's good and safe to eat and how to grow/harvest/collect it. Vitamin suppliments, they put a lot of thought into it.

I thought she was nutty. Now that I live in China, I bet I'd enjoy eating at her house better than at any restaurant over here.

Sounds like a fruitarian. Along with freegans, they have arguably the most ethical diet.

plus it's been proven that even plants have "feelings", yet most don't bleed red.

One would think GMOs would be at the top of the ethical pyramid. They are created for sustainability and require a minimum amount of resources for growth.

Yeah, lets go ahead and cut whatever funding that gaggle of nuts gets down to zero where it belongs.

Yeah, I was kidding when I wrote my original response, but google revealed the reality. I guess its not any more ridiculous than a number of academic disciplines.

In general I have no issue with them, but there are definitely concerns with promoting bioengineered crop monocultures. I guess that's not specific to GMOs though.

Meh, seems like another angry dude complaining about food ethics. There are far bigger problems in the world, but if some of you guys want to fixate on this sh!t, have at it.

I didn't start the thread, but I think its a slightly more important topic than political correctness :dunno:

And I must've missed the angry dude video.

Jordan Peterson talks about a LOT more than politcial correctness. I think the things he talks about are significantly more important than food ethics.

I am good with agreeing to disagree.

I'm sure he does. I only watched a couple video clips, which were fairly underwhelming. Truth be told, I can't help but think of Jordan Chase, the psychopathic motivational speaker who was one of Dexter's victims.

Please don 't misunderstand me. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think food ethics or YouTube pop psychologists are very important.
