Electric Mayhem 35 Posted July 25, 2013 Plus the opening guitar riff kicks ass My two favorite guitar solos (the ones that just fit the song and sound the coolest to me) are from this and Eyes of a Stranger (Queensryche).
parrot 789 Posted July 25, 2013 Like what I've heard of Steve Earle. Big fan of "Guitar Town" Well I gotta get crackin' while I still can Got a two-pack habit and a motel tan I think it's "keep rockin'" not "get crackin'" Guitar Town is a great song, and a very good album. More pure country than a lot of his later stuff. The second track "Goodbye is all we got left to say" is also one of my favorite Earle tunes. Even though my handle is based off being a 'Parrothead', Earle is probably my favorite musician. Of course I'm not one of the self-proclaimed 'experts' around here. Not a song I've heard more than a few times, and my biggest exposure to it was from a cover band a buddy played in. Wasn't he on The Wire as well?

Wasn't he on The Wire as well? Yep. The drug counselor Waylon. I always wondered if he came up with that name. Earle was a pretty hard-core addict in the early 90's and actually spent some time in jail for it.

ZeroTolerance 582 Posted July 25, 2013 Also pretty much all Tool lyrics are badass. To name a few: Right in Two Vicarious Lateralus Reflection I have come curiously close to the end, down Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole, Defeated, I concede and Move closer I may find comfort here I may find peace within the emptiness How pitiful It's calling me And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping The moon tells me a secret, my confidant As full and bright as I am This light is not my own and A million light reflections pass over me Its source is bright and endless She resuscitates the hopeless Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt Don't want to be down here feeding my narcissism. I must crucify the ego before it's far too late I pray the light lifts me out Before I pine away. So crucify the ego, before it's far too late To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical, And you will come to find that we are all one mind Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable. Just let the light touch you And let the words spill through And let them pass right through Bringing out our hope and reason Before we pine away.
jerryskids 5,201 Posted July 26, 2013 One of my favorite lyrics is The Greatest Discovery by Elton John. Anyone with a little sibling should absolutely listen to it. I was || close to playing and singing it at my little brother's wedding, but luckily I remembered I'm not very good at either. I did play it a bazillion times for my kids as more were added to the family. Peering out of tiny eyesThe grubby hands that gripped the railWiped the window clean of frostAs the morning air laid on the latchA whistle awakened someone thereNext door to the nursery just down the hallA strange new sound you never heard beforeA strange new sound that makes boys exploreTread neat so small those little feetAmid the morning his small heart beatsSo much excitement yesterdayThat must be rewarded must be displayedLarge hands lift him through the airExcited eyes contain him thereThe eyes of those he loves and knowsBut what's this extra bed just hereHis puzzled head tipped to one sideAmazement swims in those bright green eyesGlancing down upon this thingThat make strange sounds, strange sounds that singIn those silent happy secondsThat surround the sound of this eventA parent smile is made in momentsThey have made for you a friendAnd all you ever learned from themUntil you grew much olderDid not compare with when they saidThis is your brand new brotherThis is your brand new brotherThis is your brand new brother

JackARoot 2 Posted August 27, 2013 Old pirates, yes, they rob I;Sold I to the merchant ships,Minutes after they took IFrom the bottomless pit.But my hand was made strongBy the 'and of the Almighty. We forward in this generationTriumphantly.Won't you help to singThis songs of freedom'Cause all I ever have:Redemption songs;Redemption songs.Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;None but ourselves can free our minds.Have no fear for atomic energy,'Cause none of them can stop the time. How long shall they kill our prophets,While we stand aside and look? jets24 6 Posted August 27, 2013 Changes by Bowie: "And these children that you spit on, as they try and change their world are immune to your consultation; they're quite aware of what they're going through." John Denver and Jim Croce: Almost every song they ever wrote gives me chills. The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel: "Asking only workman's wages, I come looking for a job but I get no offers; Just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue. I do declare there were times when I was so lonesome I took some comfort there" "Lie la Lie" Too many to name. But I wlll finish with my favorite- "And in the end.....the love you take....is equal to the love....you make"

5-Points 2,729 Posted September 3, 2013 This song is one of my favorites from Dwight Yoakam. I don't know if he wrote it about the break up with Bridgette Fonda or the death of his good friend Buck Owens. Both happened around the same time. It's never alright It comes and it goes Oh it's always around Even when it don't show They say it gets better Well I guess that it might But even when it's better It's never alright It's never ok Lonely moves here and there Sometimes it stays In one place and just stares They say that the darkest Is just before light Each day may get brighter But it's never alright I try real hard to remember As good as it gets But the harder and harder I try All I can do is forget They say it gets better Well I guess that it might But even when it's better It's never alright It's never been mine To win or to lose No it's always been yours To pick or to choose They say love lives better When set free not held tight But even when it's better It's never alright Yeah even if it gets better It won't be alright
Little Rusty 17 Posted September 3, 2013 Sometimes, you just hear a song lyric, and it moves you. Maybe it gives you chills. Maybe it takes you back to a good time and place. Maybe it reminds you of a person you lost along the way. Maybe it gives you insight into the human condition. Maybe it just creates a beautiful picture in your mind. What are some of your favorite lines in songs? Here are a few of my favorites... "Are you there? Say a prayer, for the Pretender. Who started out so young and strong, only to surrender." From The Pretender, by Jackson Browne This is a line that gives me chills. Depending on my mood, its either a cautionary tale, or, I really identify with that line. _____ "Remember when, I moved in you, and the Holy Dove was moving too, and every breath we drew was Hallelujah?" From Hellelujah, by Leonard Cohen This song is amazing, this line in particular. The weaving back and forth between sexual and religious imagery is interesting. I once heard this song played in a church, by someone who doesn't listen to lyrics very closely. ______ "The ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face." From Visions of Johanna, Bob Dylan I don't know why, but I've always liked this line. Just a vibrant picture I guess. ______ "Lemon yellow custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye." From I Am The Walrus" by the Beatles Its not an appealing image, but it sure is vibrant. ________ "And the people danced and prayed, to the neon god they'd made" From the Sound of Silence, by Simon and Garfunkel A pretty accurate depiction of our society's worship of technology and media. ________ Anyway, I could go on and on. Whatch got? greta post!
