Intriguing second-year player fantasy options

Recommended Posts

Based on another podcast we recently did (found in signature if you want to see full thoughts), I was curious to see who everyone had on their radar in regards to second-year players when it comes to fantasy football?

Here is a quick breakdown of some of the draft-worthy options and the categories I currently have them in:

Studs:

Zeke Elliott

Michael Thomas

Jordan Howard

Over-valued:

Rob Kelley

Tyreek Hill

Under-valued:

Will Fuller

Josh Doctson

Hunter Henry

Agree w/ADP:

Paul Perkins

Wendall Smallwood

Tyler Boyd

Dak Prescott

Sterling Shepard

Laquon Treadwell

Derrick Henry

Devontae Booker

C.J. Prosise

Corey Coleman

Once the Bengals drafted J Ross I don't see how Boyd as any value.

I'm not so sure that W Fuller should be on the under value list.

Texans did indeed draft Watson at QB but it's yet to be seen if he will be the answer, I think he could be.

But I also think that B Miller might just step up his game this season which in turn will hurt Fullers ff numbers.

I like Hunter Henry, Josh Doctson, and Laquon Treadwell and Derrick Henry. Dak Prescott is already a QB1 IMO.

Don't which or if any of the 3 pan out but I believe they are best situated to take over at their positions on their team sooner or later. May not be this year for Henry but he's the surest thing on the list.

The rest pretty much all have some sort of big question mark beyond their control that could be of a big hindrance.

I think Booker will rebound this season and be much better.

The only people overvaluing Tyreek Hill are those adding return yardage and TDs to his stats.

Look at just his receiving and rushing stats

61 receptions, 863 yards combined rushing and receiving, 9 TDs combined rushing and receiving

As a rookie, thats a great baseline? Playing 35 plays a game....projected to play 70 this season according Reid?

If he doesn't even touch a kick return how do you overrate him? He will consistently be underdrafted guaranteed

Those who say he won't have long runs or receptions....why? Is he gonna get slower, less elusive all the sudden as a second year guy? Do we take away Julio and AJ Green's long TDs every year as irrelevant?

I think he will end up being a great value pick.

Not anymore, his value should go up with the release of Maclin.

I like him as a player who can help you win football games, as he definitely did last year by helping ignite a fairly lethargic offense. But I don't like the idea of drafting him as one of my top WR's.

When you consider how important WR's are to your every week starting lineup, I have a really hard time giving a starting position to a WR who is paired with Alex Smith. Wasn't it just two years ago when KC receivers didn't score a touchdown for about an entire year?

I don't want to all-out compare Hill to something like the Wildcat Offense, since that's not what he is, but having success with non-traditional players is something that hasn't been very sustainable in the NFL. So while I don't disagree with everything you've said, I do think people are very high on him and he will be over-valued in 2017.

Agree, Hill is going to be picked to early.

I'm seeing it already in mocks.

Plus Fuller has small hands and has a hard time catching the ball using just his hands.

Henry has been sliding if you check out his current Rb ranking.

I think he will receive even more work then he had last season, and I see more goal line work for him.

I'm not high on Henry unless Murray gets hurt.

I'm high on Hill, but cautious against over paying in my auction league.

I'm hoping Henry slides. If something happens to Murray, Henry could be a monster.

Agreed. Henry has top 10 fantasy RB potential if Murray were to go down.

The one thing I don't like about drafting Henry is the fact that you'll have to draft him like he's a starting RB because you're most likely going to have to start him based on where he's currently going. So while the potential is there, I feel like you can wait an additional three rounds and grab another RB who is in a time share who may end with around the same amount of FF points as Henry in the event Murray stays healthy all season.

Hopefully that post makes sense!

I agree. Murray has better pass catching skills, and right now that is why Murray is still the starter.

That being said, Murray seems to get hurt every 2-3 years. Assuming the pattern holds, this may be a dangerous year to have Murray unless you also own Henry.

Bottom line, Henry as a handcuff is a good insurance policy if you own Murray.

I think even if Murray was to stay healthy all season, Henry is going to gain more work and even a bigger load when it comes to goal line work, and on a team that wants to be a run first team he's not a bad reach.

Is Jordan Howard really a stud?

Well he finished second in the NFL in rushing yards as a rookie. And he's a projected top-10 RB that'll be drafted within the first couple of rounds, so I guess in some ways he is considered a stud.

I'm not jumping out of my seat to grab him, but he's the main guy on a team that is pretty good at running the ball

Upside is that Howard is truly the best weapon the Bears have, the down side for me is why play pass Defence vs a team with QB issue and no true Wr1.

I'm not sure where to rank him at this time, but I'm not ready to stud him out just yet.

Something not mentioned regarding Jordan Howard:

The Bears did sign Dion Sims this offseason. While he's not going to do much in terms of pass catching, he is a pretty good blocker. If their rookie Shaheen can adapt and learn to use his mammoth size to block, there could be some success along the edges of that line. The Bears ran 12 personnel the 7th most in the NFL last season.

Thats the exact problem with him this year. Of course we all like him, but 8 in the box every time he's on the field? That doesn't help anyone.

Could be a Gurley performance of last season.

Good back, but abysmal situation.
