Best Backup RB Flyers...

Recommended Posts

Lotta guys won't handcuff their studs, leaving them as potential waiver wire gems. As byes start to slowly get past us and bench space becomes available, which RB's have the enough late-season upside to hold, should an injury occur.

Austin Ekeler - Should be owned everywhere, esp with Gordon nursing a hammy.

Spencer Ware - Seems a no-brainer, but I seem to remember what occurred with Kniles Davis a few years ago.

Malcolm Brown - Has had pedestrian YPC in previous years, but has averaged 5 ypc in limited duty behind Gurly this year. Prolific offense.

CJ Anderson - I am actually surprised every week that McCaffery makes it through without injury. Is fresh as a daisy, and could do some damage if Little Mac goes down.

Rod Smith - Just have a hard time getting excited about his prospects, even with a Zeke injury. Talk about stacked boxes.

I know that there are others, but these guys back up some of the best fantasy backs in the league. How would you rank these guys?

Made it through many byes already. Been stashing some upside RBs. Malcolm Brown, Spencer Ware, Austin Ekeler, Elijah McGwire, D'Onte Foreman. Maybe one hits.

I'm not sure about Anderson. I had him early on but idk how valuable he'd be with Cam stealing TDs. I don't think they pass to him as much as they do CMC.

Gio Bernard. Mixon as a history of injuries. Lol I guess so does Gio.

But he’s another.

Yes, I thought of him after posting....thanks. Mixon owners who don't have him handcuffed are crazy.

Absolutely. If given a bell cow role, you will get three solid quarters out of Gio before he goes down too.

My question is who will get the lions share if Gurley gets hurt or the Rams have nothing to play for in December? I know Brown has gotten some run but I thought Kelly was the better back in preseason.

He was a preseason standout against backups, but word is that Brown is much more polished in pass protection, and Kelly is being brought along slowly.

Stashing Brown in multiple leagues.

Wondering if Steven Ridley isn't such a bad idea. If Bell doesn't come back, Ridley has the reigns in Pitt if Conner gets injured.

On Roto, just saw it mentioned that "PFT's Mike Florio brought up an interesting thought Tuesday after Bell wasn't traded ahead of the trade deadline; perhaps the sides have a "wink-nod" agreement that if Bell doesn't show up at this year, the Steelers will agree not to re-tag him next spring and grant him the free agency he so badly craves. It's clear neither side wants anything to do with the other right now."

I'd love that as a Conner owner, but I don't see Bell trusting the Steelers enough to not show up before then deadline.

I have Brown as well ... another division leader has Gurley where I'd love to shut his water off if Gurley gets hurt or run him sparingly in weeks 15 and 16, any chance they give Kelly the nod ? Hate to waste a roster spot.

It is not even close.

These 2 guys are the ones to have.

Malcolm Brown, Spencer Ware

If in PPR Gio & Eckler. (Eck had a game to himself and sucked)

I am very high on Malcolm Brown.

It would be a plug and play. Not to mention if they win this week, they may not play the last 2 games which means championship weekend may be a lock of no Gurley.

Remember THE RAMS SAT ALL OF THEIR PLAYERS DURING PRESEASON. They are very protective regarding injuries.

If Gurley sits I'm willing to bet most of their starters sit. How valuable is a 2nd string RB who is running behind 2nd string o linemen and a second string QB? That's a big risk to take in the playoffs.

Sit guys for 2 games and get a 1 week bye... That's just asking for your team to be soft and rusty

I own Hunt, but not Ware. Its a gamble but Id have to drop D Lewis or L Murray to pick him up, and both those guys have been pretty decent lately.

I dont start either of them too often, but theyre good for bye weeks and it keeps other owners who are thin at RB from grabbing them.

The game within the game...................

in a couple of leagues plenty of reasons for me to drop some marginal RBs for higher upside stashes considering I'm fully covered but always have to examine all of the consequences

I would drop Lewis over Murray.

Second I would drop Lewis for Warw if you have the room.

KC can flat out score points, so he would be a fantastic value if anything happen to a top five rb like Hunt
