if you are into lacrosse...

Recommended Posts

very good game about to start ..... Denver vs Maryland.

if you are not very familiar:

edit: 10 players on the field (goalie, 3 defenders, 3 midfielders, 3 attack) defenders can use use longer sticks. coaches will sub to have up to 5 long sticks (2 long stick midfielders) while in the defensive zone

game play is very much like basketball. picks, pick-n-rolls, some teams like to up the tempo and love the transition, some prefer to slow it down by setting up their offense to run plays. different team use different formations and rotations. midfielders are set up in lines and come in/leave like hockey.

penalties like hockey: man-up, man down

edit: there are releasable penalties and unreleasable penalties.

releasable- player can get back onto the field when a goal is scored or their team can have possession of the ball in the other team's defensive box.

unreleasable- player cannot enter the field until full time is served.

offsides: offense needs 3 players on the attacking half of the field; defense needs 4 (3 plus goalie), on their defensive side. defenders can carry the ball across the line, but someone (usually a midfielder) needs to stay back to stay onsides.

shots: the team closest to the ball when it goes out of bounds gets possession. not so on passess.

Lacrosse is nothing like basketball...

Ehh...I can see a little basketball element to it. Not a fan of lacrosse...but I can see it. Swinging the ball around the perimeter, cutting, back and forth.

It's just starting to get into Iowa....sounds like in 5-10 it could be a HS sport here.
