Preseason Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

In watching the games last night, I saw some pretty exciting things. My big draft is coming up the week after next. If RGIII looks like he did last night again, I will draft him as my qb2. Why not? Hue is a qb whisperer and RGIII looked darn good.

Pryor is looking like a legit WR. He may end up being a solid WR4.

Tyler Boyd has a lot of good press coming out lately. If LaFell misses time over the ligament damage in his hand, can Boyd possibly be a WR4 as well? I consider my WR4 to be pretty valuable as he's the first guy off the bench in case of injury or a bye week. I am not a fan of LaFell anyway. It took Tom Brady to make him fantasy relevant.

Eddie Lacy - Two games, two solid outings. With him being in a contract year, his stock is rising. I was hoping to get him as a RB2, but I don't think I can now. If so, the ROI will be huge. I think he looks better than he did in 2014 right now. The line is healthy and he could end up being the RB people are sleeping on.

Christine Michael - I'm not buying his hype yet. Too many years of him running wild in the preseason, then falling face first when the games matter for me to trust him yet. His ADP is going to rise after last night, but I'm not buying.

Lockett - I love this kid. Another serious candidate for a WR4 spot? We get kickoff / punt return points in my redraft. He's squarely on my radar.

Jeremy Langford didn't look bad last night. I'm not sure where his ADP is at, but I'm still considering him too risky to draft as anything other than a RB3 right now. If they can find a veteran center, maybe..... If not, I think the line breaks down completely this season and he will be a lost cause.

Sanu - He is another guy I think people are sleeping on. He's not fast, not flashy, but he's playing in an offense that desperately needs a 2nd WR and he could rack up enough receptions and yards to be a surprise this season. Not great, but someone who could step in if your WR3 goes down.

I don't put any stock, at all, in most preseason games. Teams are trying out new strategies and just getting their guys loose. That said, the people above have made an impression, good or bad. I'll keep watching them, but the mid to late round value picks are becoming more clear.

Your Christine Michael assessment makes zero sense. Maybe you aren't buying it, but he looks good. Just saying I'm not buying it isn't an assessment of how he actually looks running the ball, you are just assuming he won't be involved. It's completely fine to believe that because you could be right, but if you are evaluating how a player looks in preseason at least give him the credit he deserves for what he has done on the field for this preseason.

Giraldi told me in an earlier thread that Eagles have a great defense for FF. I disagreed then. I admit that I was wrong. They are better than I realized.

Landry did a good job in feeding them the ball.

I usually stream Ds so they were on my radar only because they play the Browns week 1. I'll draft them & maybe ride it.

Dunno. We'll see

You are correct. I should give him credit for the preseason. This preseason, last preseason, and the prior preseason, he looked excellent. Normally I'll bump a guy up due to an overly impressive preseason. In his case, I will not. We have all seen preseason wonder boys do this before. Thy play lights out in the preseason, then look like 3rd stringers, or at best, backups, when the real games begin. I could be way off on Michael. Maybe he finally put it all together and he becomes the full time starter and wins someone a league title. It won't be me though.

I'm disappointed in Sammie Coates. I thought he was going to be legit, but he seems like a really good athlete who's not a great receiver yet. That pick 6 that Landry threw was on coates. He ran the slowest curl in history so the db ran the route for him, he didn't fight for the ball, and then didn't make the tackle. Then he draws an offensive PI on a go route where he let the defender ride him to the boundary making the throw much tighter.

He reminds me of jeff janis. He'll make some athletic plays every now and then, but won't be much of a consistent threat. Too many mental mistakes.

I think my one concern w/ Michael is an extension of my concern with Rawls.

Both seem to me as primary running down backs. In a hurry up offense, I just don't see either out there. When trailing, the Seahawks had a 57:43 pass-to-run ratio. Given the lack of production that Rawls had on third down in the passing game, it causes me some trepidation. Also, it does depend on Prosise's health...but it's a valid concern.

What's interesting, was that the Seahawks allowed the fewest points in the NFL last year, yet they ran 526 offensive plays with the lead, and 428 offensive plays when trailing.

Those slow starts caused some fantastic comebacks, but it also hints to me that the defense might not be as elite as it once was. Maybe they regain their form and it's a moot point Just more food for thought.

And everything you read him as been about how good he's been looking during practice .

And as been anything but.

That pick 6 was a terrible read by L. Jones, the Eagles DB jumped it like he knew the play. No tackle? LOL, seriously? Bolt wouldn't have caught a DB jumping a curl route in 40 yards.

As far as the PI, that'll happen with young WR's and he ran to where the ball was thrown, out of bounds. I was impressed with his sidelines catch for 24 yards and Tomlin looked pretty excited. He almost scored on an end around also.

I'm not giving up on him, especially considering no Ben, Bell or Brown on the field with him and it's the preseason.

I don't care about his tacking ability honestly. I was just making a point that he's not making football plays. As a receiver, you can see the guy is jumping the route. At that time you become a defender. He became a bystander.

As for the ball Landry threw out of bounds, if Coates wasn't a yard from the sideline, Landry would've had margin for error.

Both 9f those plays are examples of poor route running. Get through your curl like you mean it and fight for the ball. And stay off the god damn sideline on go routes.

By the way, I drafted Coates already. I'm just not a cheerleader because I have the dude. You know why? Because if he's not good, he won't be good whether I deny it or not.

Think he's good , just haven't seen it in a game yet what they have been saying about him in practice .

Will not me .

I drafted him as well, hopefully when lining up with the starters things will go better for him. He's definitely got talent.
