Haha. That is a funny approach. I'll give you that. But just in case someone thinks you are not joking...

Eli Manning will be only the second QB in the HOF that has a career losing record. Him and Joe Namath. And Joe Namath only has one more loss than wins. So by the time manning goes in, he will be the most below .500 than any QB in the HOF of all two of them.

Joe Montana INTs 139 --- Record as starting QB - 117-47 ---- 8 pro bowls ---- 3 first team all pro

Eli Manning INTs 234 --- Record as starting QB - 113-110 ----- 4 pro bowls ---- 0 first team all pro

He’s going to make the HOF.

I agree with the OP.

Love this thread.

Thanks

Am I the only one that sees a difference here (beside the OP who is just messing around)? If you want to compare QBs from a different era, let's simply just compare them to how good they were compared with their peers. Joe Montana kicks manning's butt.

Eli manning hasn't even finished in the top 6 of QBs any year he played. Ever. And even when he was in the top 10, it was only twice.

Sure happy HOF if he gets in, but you are only celebrating him bringing the standards of the HOF down. They can sit his bust next to Joe Namath. Pretty equal except that Joe Namath was entertaining and will have had a better winning %.

Eli > Namath

More rings.

Namath was god awful, this isn’t even snarky, it’s just true. Of course Eli>Namath.

Namath played 12 years. In only 2 of them, he threw more td than int. This is a real stat, he was horrible. Check the stats for yourself anyone who wants to see. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/N/NamaJo00.htm

And to think, Namath will probably still end up with a better win % than manning. Crazy league.

I agree.

Another guy I always thought never really deserved all the accolades is Bradshaw.

Nope - Bradshaw was on the best team arguably ever in the history of the NFL. Its also fair to bring Troy Aikman into these "somewhat ove-rated QBs" discussion. As usual, people put way too much emphasis on SB rings when talking QBs. They get too much credit for SB wins and too much blame for losses. In their world where ONLY rings matter, they must rank Dilfer or Doug Williams higher than Marino, Fouts, Kelly, etc which of course is absolutely retarded. Football is the ultimate team sport and NO QB ever won anything by themselves. That includes Brady, Manning, Brees, whomever.

Speaking of Peyton - he has a very unique "record" in that hes the ONLY QB ever to win a SB as the starter for two different teams. Thats pretty amazing. Brady, Brees, Montana will never do such a thing. IMO thats more impressive than just having X amount of rings.

Completely agree with your first part. But peyton was pretty terrible when in Denver. That defense saved his ass. Brees, Brady, etc.. would have won there. And he also had a cakewalk against the overachieving Bears and Rex Grossman. After Hester scored on that opening kickoff, that was it for the Bears. But at least peyton was in his prime and looking like a real QB.

Peyton certainly wasnt awesome for Denver but I could argue that Bradys first 3 SB titles were very much due to the defense(and maybe cheating but we'll let that go ;) ). I believe Brees or Manning would have won those 3 games that NE did too. And, Brady beat Jake Delhomme in one of his games which is just as unimpressive as Manning beating Grossman.

Yeah, that's the fun of it all I guess. Debating about different eras, different teams, different coaches and how good the actual player was. In the end I guess the only way to judge HOF worthy is to compare them to their peers at that position at that point in time. and just give up that they were on a good or bad team. But like you said, SB rings should be down the line in judging this.

It's ironic that Marino was the only QB to beat the Bears in '85. Miami was 1 game from going to the superbowl, and I was so mad that they beat the Bears during the season that I was hoping they would beat the Pats so the Bears could get revenge. I wonder if he would have beat them again. Quick release was how he did it the first time.

That last statement isn't true as he'll hold none. He'll never catch up to Brees in comp%, yards, or TD's. He'll never catch Brady in Wins. He'll never catch Rodgers in passer rating. Not sure which records you're talking about.

Also, if your criteria for H.O.F. is how they compare to Joe Montana, you're going to be putting in a TON of bad QB's. Joe Flacco will pass Montana on almost every one of those category's by the end of next season. Carson Palmer and Philip Rivers already did. In 2 or 3 years, Andy Dalton, Alex Smith, and Matt Ryan will too. Matt Stafford isn't too far away either.

Eli will get in, I don't know that it's first ballot but he will after a couple of tries.

His two championship runs were legendary.

The first is perhaps the biggest upset in NFL history over the undefeated Patriots.

That stuff will help.

2sb rings and top 10 in every passing category gets you in, period. Maybe not first ballot, but he will get in eventually just on those merits. Doesn’t matter if he’s sucked and for how long or how many losses. With those credentials under his belt, he will get in. Not saying he deserves it, not saying he’s the best this or that or better than this guy or that guy. I’m simply saying what I just said and that’s it.

Nice. Did you read all of the posts here? I love name callers. They must be so happy in their lives to take time to send cut-downs to people they don't even know. I feel bad for your parents dude, unless all their kids were failures. Then I would blame them.

I couldn't disagree more about the Aikman portion of this comment. My guess is you didn't watch him play? I was not a Cowboys fan, but watched most of his games as we didn't have a team in St. Louis at the time and the Cowboys were on every weekend. Aikman never gets credit for his deadly accuracy, which was the best in the NFL at the time. He also gets overlooked for his play action passing. He absolutely had the best offensive line in the game, but it wasn't his offensive line faking out the opposing defensive line and letting Alvin Harper run down the field uncontested on many plays. Did you not see when Aikman would grab someone by the collar in the huddle for missing an assignment and put them in their place? Without a doubt, he was one of the better field generals in the game, then, or ever. Saying he was undeserving, or his line/rb "made" him great, is simply wrong. Irvin would never had that type of success with anyone else. He was not a quick WR and Aikman threw him open more often than not. How many times did we see the same thing in Cowboy games?? Aikman would put the ball where nobody could get it outside of the WR. His touchdown to Novacek is still, in my opinion, one of the most perfectly thrown balls of all time. If anything, Aikman does not get the accolades he deserves. Again, this isn't coming from a Cowboys fan, just someone who watched most of their games (due to nothing else being on).

Aikman's completion % was in the mid 60's for 6 years, and in the 50's for 6 years.

He only had 20 or more TDs once. And his interception to TD ratio was not that great at all. Pretty bad actually.

That offensive line and Emmitt Smith were the strength of that team.

Steve Young embodies a HOF player. Aikman is... meh. Just like Eli Manning...meh.

Aikman could throw darts - as a 9er fan I say that. Steve Young was certainly a running qb but not as precise as Aikman Montana or Simms. He was also not the same caliber big game QB. 94 9ers were stacked with talent.

Doesnt compare for example when Montana was traded to KC turning an average team into a playoff team.

Young had a better pass completion % and a better TD to Int. % than Aikman.

Eli was funnier on SNL. Joe is better at the football-related categories.

Go ahead and compare SNL these days with SNL of the years with Belushi, Ackroyd, Ratner, Murphy, etc... You will find that Eli fails there too.

Young had great numbers but was not the late game finisher that Montana was. He also made more late game mistakes The year he took the job from Montana he lost his first playoff game. And the opposing players said they knew they had a chance when they found out Montana wasnt starting. A 4 time Super Bowl qb lost his job to a guy who would go on to win only 1 despite being on a stacked team

If Eli only wins one more game in his career, I hope it’s this weekend.

Come on Eli one more time.
