TEs not named Gronk

Recommended Posts

Which TE are you targeting and which top tier TE are you staying away from? Lets leave Gronk out the conversation.

TE is one of my biggest fantasy weakness. I've been going with the middle of the pack TE rotating for match ups. The problem is its pretty much the kiss of death for TE I start and the bench blows up. This is the year were I have a great core of keepers and I can reach for a TE. Who are you targeting and who are you staying away from?

Staying away from Reed, injury prone as all hell.

I have Kelce as a target, Jimmy Graham if I wait for a TE. Was really down on him last year, but now that the Hawks look to be going for more of a passing offense, he could blow up again.

Late TE2, Charles Clay could be a sneaky PPR pick. Supposedly the coaches want Taylor to look for him more this year, and if Watkins has a setback, Clay could be the beneficiary.

Fleener I would like to be able to pick him up very late . And I also like Z Miller .

Staying away from Reed. Last year was a fluke. No way in hell he plays 10 games this year. Graham I'll need to see more of. With Lynch and Golden Tate gone he has a chance to actually catch some passes.

Kelce and Bennett are on my list to get

I like Fleener as well but I don't he will be there very late. I see him as a player owners will reach for and be glad they did.

I think your right on about that . I just one that likes to draft TE's late .

But I agree with you .

Anyone thoughts about. Z Miller with the Bears ?

And how about Cook with the Packers?

And how do you all feel about Ebron with the Lions ?

Cook has stone hands and so does Bennet. Miller is a flyer 2nd tight end that is more injury prone than Reed.

Bennett is nasty with the YAC. You know the Pats love that. I am buying.

I meant to say Cooks. I don't know why I said Bennet. Bennet has solid hands so he would be fine of he received enough targets.

Some of the fantasy experts around here have been predicting the fall of Gates and the rise of Ladarius Green the past few seasons in SD. And we've all seen how that's worked out. But what about Hunter Henry?

Gates will hold off the rookie for one last year. Fleener/Ebron/Julius are mid range TE1 targets of mine.

Not buying Fleener. Had him multiple years and he hasnt really shown me much.

Gates is like that fire chick in Game of Thrones. SMH, how does he keep playing? As for Hunter, rookie TE's rarely begin their NFL careers with huge success.

Most people don't realize that Reed wasn't the starter going into last pre-season. Niles Paul was. Now Paul is back from injury and I would suspect that both he and Reed will get 50+ balls this year. Big dropoff for Reed.

I disagree , I think Reed separated himself from Paul with the season he had last year .

Paul will get some work but not enough to hurt Reed all that much .

An injury is a bigger treat to Reed having a big drop off .

Olsen is still a top target, but after that I would prob just wait and get the guys like Fleener later. Although people have caught on and he is being taken earlier. With news that Eifert is prob going o miss games, dont hesitate to scoop him up if he plummets. Downside is you need to roster 2 te, but upside you get one of the best second half te for the year.

Is the gronk' gap at the top as big as previous years? Given that Brady is suspended 4 games? I think Gronk might drop in a lot of drafts. If I can't scoop him for value, I think I'd be looking at upside guys for cheap. I'm not paying for Reed, olsen, or baby-gronk. I think upside guys have all been mentioned in previous posts. My personal favs are Green, Bennett and take a flyer on Walford (as R8RMick hints).

Inexperienced QBs like security blankets like Gronk right? Janine Garoffalo should be targetting him plenty in those first 4 games. I would not take Gronk in rnd 1 either way, you will hate your team the whole draft and be scrambling for starters at wr/rb.

Agree I think his stock might he higher with a young Qb at the helm .

But like it was posted above I just can't take a te that early .

So I guess I'm hoping his stock goes up .

I may be a bit biased being an Eagles fan but I think Peterson will use Ertz very well and he will out perform his projections. He had a nice season last year in the catches and yards I see him being more of a threat this season with Peterson calling the plays.

Ever heard of Wally Pipp?

Lol at the Pipp reference Donkey. Should Reed go down I'm uncertain if Paul or Davis would fill the void. Receiving wise I might give the nod to Paul's fresher legs, but blocking and overall might go to Davis. I don't know who I'd bid on first.

A guy getting zero attention is Vance McDonald, Im targeting him very late and if I get him great, if not, oh well.

Ton of upside, and will be utilized this season in SF...

McDonald will be there late , I like McDonald a lot more than I like the team he playes on .

Now with that said the Eagles te did have some good success under the Kelly system .

McDonald is a perfect candidate for being a hernia specialist with how many balls he dropped last year.

My money is on Celek being the tight end in SF. And I wouldn't really want either in a fantasy sense, even with the faster pace/more offensive snaps.

I'm not going too far out of my way to get any of them. I like Ebron and guys like Olsen and Delanie Walker but I'm not reaching for them. There are plenty of serviceable TEs available. There will be a couple to step up and put up decent numbers but it's like rolling the dice.

Just saying, Paul is a beast, Reed has injury problems, Gruden is going to try to keep them both fresh. They both could end up being lower end TE1s. Anyone who expects Reed to duplicate last year's #s should take this to heart.

Now Ebron is a Te that will be there late .

Ladarius Green, Ertz, Ebron

I'm not a big Ladarius fan. I watched him every year because I had him stashed on a dynasty team.

1. He's kind of a b¡tch. He alligator arms catches over the middle. For being one of the biggest and fastest players on the field, he's not very physical at all, and every time he gets a boo-boo he sits out.

2. He can't block for sh¡t

3. He'll be the 4th option on Pittsburgh at best after Antonio Brown, Bell, Wheaton or Coates (who I think might be legit this year).

4. Heath Miller was supposed to be some kind of "security blanket" for Roethlisberger. Well I guess Big Ben felt pretty secure without his binky because he only had maybe 2 relevant fantasy years his entire career. People are acting like the Steelers are going to start force feeding the tightend all of the sudden when they have one of the best offenses in the league throwing to their tightends 90 times a year. That puts Green, who doesn't have as good of hands as Miller at around 60 catches for 600 yards and however many TDs he can manage.

I don't think Green will deliver on his ADP.

Agreed, the steelers just arent really a TE centric offense and wont change their whole plan for Green. Could he finish as a top 6 te? Sure, thats not the highest bar really. Kelce was 7 and he sucked.

You're probably right with your analysis. I just like to load up with talent on teams with potent offenses. Steelers are gonna rack up points on a weekly basis and I'll take a flyer on a TE playing on a good team with lots of mouths to feed vs a TE playing on a sh*tty team that never scores. Also, its not completely out of question that Green can move up the totem pole. Wheaton and coates isn't exactly established commodities in fantasy.

If Bell can stay healthy he will take a lot of targets away from Green .

With that said Green will be a late Te target for me , I like to draft my Te late .

I picked up Reed in the rounds sixteen and seventeen on two of my ppr teams last year in 18 round drafts. Everyone was afraid of him. He is a concussion machine waiting to happen and he will be overdrafted early. I agree, stay away from him early. Don't buy into the hype that he will repeat those numbers from last year.

I'm going to bump this thread and again urge folks to draft Clive Walford as your TE2. This kid is going to be a legit weapon for Derek Carr, in an offense which should be on the field a lot more in 2016.

Walford goes 6-4 250 with 4.79 wheels and a 35 inch vertical leap. Handpicked by Reggie McKenzie this kid was the alltime leader at The U in tight end production, a school which gave us Jeremy Shockey, Greg Olsen, Kellen Winslow II, and Bubba Franks.

Walford started slow his rookie year, as most tight ends are want to do. But from Week 9 on he drew 39 targets (26 in his last 5 games), finishing the year with 329 yards for three TDs. He dropped only one of his 50 targets, and in fact didn't drop a pass his entire time at the U.

He'll be a viable field stretcher and red zone threat, with a shot to match the 60/800/5 line that Travis Kelce put up his second year. Grab him late as your TE2, you heard it here first.
