No-hitters in the National League

Recommended Posts

I gotta say no hitters in the NL don't hold the same weight as no hitters in the American League. The lineups are weaker in the NL and you have pitchers hitting. The fact that Josh Beckett no hit a major league team at this point in his career is amazing enough, but if he's pitching against an AL team (besides the Astros) he doesn't make it past 6 innings. #Beckettthrowscheese

"lineups are weaker" and "pitchers hitting" is redundant. amazing feat either way.

Um, no. National plays a different style playing "small ball". Bunting, stealing etc. So it's not redundant. Nice try though. Beckett's no hitter was a product of the crappy Phillies offense.

The pitcher hitting is really a negligible difference. He'll most likely only get 2 ABs in the game anyway and the 9th batter on an AL team is probably hitting .250 or less which is only around a 10% greater chance of getting a hit. The top 5 batters are the reason a no-no is nearly impossible, not the 9th one.

Don't forget the slow roller to third with two outs in the ninth that they called an error...

Sorry that you're not a fan of the league where pitchers are actually considered players too, and therefore bat.

That is the first time I witnessed a home scorer make a call like that. I have seen it many times since. If the no no was broken up the scorer would have had a change of heart and adjusted it.

The whole DH/no DH argument is one that i could take either side of. If i had a preference i would say i would rather see the DH, but in general I wish they would just make it the same for both leagues one way or another. Could you imagine if the NFL had a different set of rules for the AFC vs NFC. Or if the NBA allowed zone defenses in the Western conference but not in the Eastern Conference?

agreed Beckett blows and I thought I saw a stats that after his first 5 outings or something he couldnt even make it past the 5th inning in any of them

Agreed, get rid of the DH.

Didn't need this to prove that he is an idiot...

Truth-be-told...I just wanted a reason to post about a Brewers win. :)
