edjr 5,564 Posted May 11, 2018 The pathetic yankees, can't get a sniff of Eduardo Rodriguez, so they use a lengthy rain delay to get him out of the game. It was barely drizzling Sad. Nice job by the, clueless, idiot yankee fans in right field. leaning over to catch a ball nitwits we've come to expect that any idea who got the save last night? Hardcore troubadour 12,642 Posted May 11, 2018 As I said before, who gives a crap? The manager makes the decision... The manager does. He decided to give him a five out save. He didn't get it done. He can't, which means he's overrated. Team can't count on him in that situation when it arises. And it will.

Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted May 11, 2018 I keep looking for all-time statistics for 5 out saves and they aren't there. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/SV_career.shtml It must be so important that guys don't get into the HOF without some. Either that or the game has evolved such that the save requiring more than 3 outs just isn't that important anymore.

Either that or the game has evolved such that the save requiring more than 3 outs just isn't that important anymore. It isn't important anymore... With so many relief specialists now, it is six innings of the starter, one inning for each of the two setup men and the closer going one inning...
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted May 11, 2018 Nerd geek. Do you guys even enjoy basesball, or just counting? I actually just enjoy the game. Not a big stat guy. You're the one quoting the stat of 5-out saves. I see a closer coming in and getting the outs needed to ensure that the team wins (save).

Hardcore troubadour 12,642 Posted May 11, 2018 It isn't important anymore... With so many relief specialists now, it is six innings of the starter, one inning for each of the two setup men and the closer going one inning... And what happens when that doesn't work? Or extra innings? Your closer sits in the bullpen until it's tooo late. Sometimes you have to do more than your role. It's like saying a field goal kicker is great except he can't hit one from 50 plus. Can't even try it. You really don't know much beyond formulas and stats. vuduchile 1,941 Posted May 11, 2018 It isn't important anymore... With so many relief specialists now, it is six innings of the starter, one inning for each of the two setup men and the closer going one inning... Its important sometimes. Maddon used Chapman for an 8 out save, and 2 4 out saves in the WS games 5,6, and 7. Of course Chapman whined about it afterward. He agrees with you.

vuduchile 1,941 Posted May 11, 2018 Regarding Mariano; I agree with this guys assessment. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mensjournal.com/sports/mlb-playoffs-top-5-most-dominant-postseason-pitchers-all-time/amp/ If you needed one pitcher to pitch one inning of an important playoff game, youd be hard-pressed to find someone better than Mariano Rivera. Sure, anyone on this list would be great, but Mo was on another level. Armed with a near-unhittable splitter that was possibly sent from God (no, really) Rivera dominated in the playoffs and holds multiple MLB records, including the lowest postseason ERA (0.70) and the most saves (42, which also was his uniform number). Rivera helped the Yankees win five World Championships, taking home the World Series MVP award in 1999 and the ALCS MVP in 2003. The splitter was his signature pitcheven when most hitters knew it was coming, they still couldnt hit it. Sure, Rivera has blown saves in the playoffsdont mention the Diamondbacks to any Yankees fanbut his overall resume is unlike anything baseball has ever seen. And it may never be seen again.
