3 D printer.....which one to get?

Recommended Posts

I would buy a serviceable model to try it out and learn from. Its the sotware thats important. Learn that first then get the more advanced model. Check refil costs as well and what colors the plastic comes in. Also check for precision and how often or how easy it is to calibrate. Understand your probably going to be limited to a printing area that is fairly small. Best to build things in pieces.

Again, the sotware is the hardest part. You can download pre made plans etc. check what that market is like. Some models have tons of cool plans to download.

Looking at the one you picked has me thinking your buying an olympic pool for someone just learning how to swim.

Best isnt always the best. It may be so hard to use it sits there wasted as his frustration level gets highet.

my house is full of expensive crap that is unused... hoverboards...musical keyboards... etc.

Have him tell you what he is going to do with this thing? Is this something he likes to do? Is he an engineer type? Does he like models and rc cars and have some mechanical agility and knowledge?

3-5k is alot for a cool clothing rack in his room.

He is into this shtt big time. He has been messing with this shtt since he was 2. He already runs circles around my ass.

Yes, use to be rich, then, was crippled and became extremely poor.

I did inherit everything. My parents were not super rich. Both worked regular jobs their whole lives.

I knew I was going to get lots of stuff, home, cars, things, but I was stunned when my father told me on his death bed that there was retirement money and how much. Hell, it took me 3 months to find the money. I just finally stated calling places until one day, one of the places I called said "We were wondering were you were at"

No, I have not blown all the money, not even close.

Rich, might have been a stretch. I was not poor, not even close. My dad made me get a job at 15. I learned a great work ethic from my father. Everywhere I worked, I as always promoted. In 1990 at the age of 19, I was running a restaurant that made over a million dollars a year in sales. I was making piles of cash. I bought a house when I was 23. I even changed jobs at 24 and started working in a warehouse. I was making less, but still, with overtime, I was making plenty for the times in my area. About 35-40K a year.

So not exactly rich. I was not married and no children and making all that money. I was very secure and never had to want for anything.

Then, I met my ex wife. :overhead:

You're going to blow through all of the money your parents worked their whole lives for. You use to have less money, don't forget it, and don't go back to it. This is what a lot of lottery winners do, they waste all the money away on careless purchases, over-indulging, spoiling kids/family or friends and themselves. Get some financial discipline. I'm just trying to help, please don't take it wrong, sorry I can be blunt.

Seriously though. Why are you on such a spending spree?

Do you think it's impossible for you to blow all this dough?

I am not on a spending spree. I just do what I want now.

I'm going to ask you some questions, but I don't want the answers. It's just for you to think about.

How old are you?

How old is your son?

How many years does the average man live? Apply that to you and your son.

Do you have an income? How much is it a year? How much is it per month?

What are your expenses? Including new expenses after the inheritence (another house for example)? In a year? In a month?

How much money did you have before the inheritence?

How much was the inheritence?

How have you invested the money?

Do you have a written budget?

Do you have any debt? If so, what type of debt? How many loans, credit cards, mortgages are you paying, how much, how often, when will it all be paid off?

How much did you use to spend?

How much do you spend now?

How much of the inheritance have you spent already? How do you feel about the items you've spent it on? Don't forget to include any new daily or weekly purchases even if small and add those up.

You might think you have a lot of money or even wealth, and maybe you do. But getting into a habit of spending often can allow you to go through money fairly quick, even if by quick, it's 5 years later and you're wondering where a lot of it went.

Maybe you're fine, and if you are absolutely certain you are, then disregard what I'm saying, although I think what I'm saying applies to everyone.

I shouldn't have said you're going to blow through the money. I should have just said be careful you don't blow through the money, but maybe you already are careful with it.

Boom.

This.

So much crap goes unused. We have a drone, a hoverboard, those focking goggles that you put on and look around, forget name, gidgets, gadgets that get bought, used once, then they sit. Then a year later, a friend is over, and we go to use it, battery dead, only takes a charger, can't locate charger for said item.

Everything with my kid (12), comes back to his phone. He hardly plays his PS4.

And that's the question I ask...."What are you going to do with it?" and "Is it going to end up like your________ and sit around?" I will then tell him to think about it for 3 days and then decide.

Almost ALWAYS..... 3 days later...he's like "Meh....don't want it"

Yes, that is the one. I have not told it yet.

My new bro, Nate, that I am doing this fight club with is rubbing off on me. I have made at least 100 new friends this year and have even fallen in love.
