Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier who was recovered in Afghanistan last spring after five years in captivity, faces charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, according to his lawyer.

Eugene Fidell, Bergdahls attorney, told The Washington Post that his client was handed a charge sheet on Tuesday. Army officials announced they will provide an update in his case at 3:30 p.m. at Fort Bragg, N.C., but declined to discuss new developments ahead of the news conference.

Bergdahl, 28, went missing from his base in Paktika province on June 30, 2009, and is believed to have grown disillusioned with the U.S. militarys mission in Afghanistan. He was held captive in Pakistan by the Haqqani network, an insurgent group allied with the Taliban, until a deal brokered through the government of Qatar was reached last year.

I knew it would happen eventually. I was working with the guy who actually transported him to the hospital here in SA and when the leaders were having a meeting already saying that the guy pretty much was coming back to be charged

He abandoned the soldiers he was serving with. Some of those real soldiers died looking for this scum.

Obama is such a dumbass. 5 high level terrorists back on the battlefield for this scum.

Guilty or not, I thought US policy was to never to trade for hostages. I'll never understand that deal, along with the lack of public and congressional outrage.?.

But we can abandon US Amassadors and their staff, that does not compute but what difference does that make?

Agreed. But since we didn't know he deserted at the time, getting him back was the right call.

Obummer.

Obama had to push all this past the election because it was such a clusterfukk. Apparently, you are too dim to figure that

I wasn't aware that Obummer prevented the military from charging Bergdahl for years. I very much look forward to your link that proves it.

I don't have access to the intelligence we had on the prisoners we exchanged them for. So I won't blindly say it was a good trade. I (nor any of you) know enough details to make that call.

But as far as doing whatever it takes to bring an American back, I'd hope they'd do the same for me. And if he was brought back so that he can serve his sentence for desertion, then I'm fine with that, too.

well, the intelligence issue is a two way street

i'm pissed off knowing that they put other soldiers lives at risk to rescue a deserter with known interest in defecting to the enemy

They defend anything, and everything, Obama does just because it is Obama who does it. Ultimate definition of mindless lemmings.
