** Round 3 - 6 Commentary - July PPR Mock 2017 **

Recommended Posts

OK, so this pick was a gut-check pick based on an evaluation of what else was around, and your intuition about Tate and his potential.... I can get with that, was there any additional detail maybe about the QB, OL, OC anything?

I am gonna ask Hawkeye to explain Tate being taken this early, I want to hear your thought process....

I have Tate scoring more points than a few of the guys taken before him. I'm not going by any ADPs but my own projections sheet and I like Tate. If I didn't take him this round he wasn't going to be there for me next round. I think he's the Lions WR1 and I'd rather have him than a team's WR2 right here.

Tate has avg. 140 targets for 96 receptions and 5 TD's over the last 3 seasons. Last year they went to Marvin a lot the first 5 games then returned to what works and tate still got 94 receptions. They had a pretty good receiver opposite tate before last season and he still produced opposite of Megatron. It's safe to say that those yearly averages above are safe in this offense.

That's what I'm shooting for. I know there were some other guys that were available to me that could put up the same amount of points but I just like Tate's situation better. Without naming any players that haven't been the picked I found the other guys to be injury risks or they just are not the WR1 on their team. The WRs that went before me I had down my list. I actually had to go to my next page of WRs to cross off Hill. I will admit that he's probably too far down on my list but I still find him to be overvalued right now.

Man, another pick snatched....was hoping McCaffery would drop to me as well, the guy is an absolute matchup nightmare for defenses.....sigh

I'm very curious to see how he transitions to the NFL and how well he fits into the Panther's offense. I'm avoiding him this year unless falls past the 4th round.

Pick in a min

You made a great pick there with Crabtree. I was strongly considering him over Tate but ultimately make my choice based on Tate being the WR1 for his team and Crabtree technically being the WR2. Crabtree is a fantastic value this year and I'd rather have him over Cooper based on where they are going in drafts.

Happy he fell solid WR2 with good potential, gets plenty of targets and should continue to see the same type of production this season.

This selection was part of going contrarian to the Zero RB strategy. I'm going all RB!!!

First 4 picks = 3 RB's & 1 TE.

Can be a bold strategy in a 1PPR.

For my own sanity, please format your selections like...

1.01 - RB Lawrence Phillips, STL

3.11 - QB Charlie Sheen, DEN

10.06 - D/ST Carolina

Nice job snagging Brees from me, remote. I was thinking I had a chance at a dream team (the original one, not Vince Young's), but now I'm just going to have to settle for something less :wall:

I was wondering when Brees might be taken, this was the right range for sure, a good place to take him.

So little sammie Watkins fell a bit, understandably, and I am so grateful that I did not end up in the position to have to decide to take him or not, Buffalo is such a mess, and while Watkins is a talent, he is not enough of a talent to overcome all the many shortcomings of the team he plays for. He is Dendre Hopkins light, pretty good talent, playing for a bad team, who can never live up to his draft spot.

I love Watson in a contract year along with his QB. They are both motivated, and having a run first offense, which doesn't hurt loosening things up a bit for them in the secondary. He and a back were in competition with Brees to make my roster.

I've got two names picked out and a third at standby here.

This always seems to be the part of the draft where I'm getting players sniped left and right. Really wanted Sanders to fall to me.

Well my targets of fitz, sanders and mixing flew off the board figured I'd grab my highest rated TE left before it dropped off

That was a totally.rushed pick but I do love Martins potential after his 3 game suspension. After week 3 I think he will greatly exceed his draft spot on a point per game basis

Hopefully these guys do ok because replace Green with Julio and this was the core of my most recent dynasty startup.

Green (Julio)

Hilton

Kelce

Adams

Crowder

Ralph, FBN will be so happy you sniped Abdullah

 If Ralph saw that thread he would have known I wouldn't have taken Abdullah for my two picks

Well, a lot of guys I really liked got scooped up before these last two picks so I had a big choice to make in which direction my draft was going. Generally I would work on picking up my back ups and adding solid depth at this point but instead I'm going to try something different and fill in another starting spot before I work on depth. Luck had a bad year two seasons ago but came back pretty strong even though he hasn't been fully healthy. I expect him to be healthy this year and he has the skills to be the QB1 which is great for a 6th round pick.
