The bucs need to step up in other ways though.

TBayXXXVII 2,117 Posted May 3, 2018 Winston isn't a finished product yet... I'm not sure he'll ever be one. His ceiling though is 10x higher than Ryan's. Winston last year was on par with Ryan's "normal" year. He completed almost 64% of his passes, Ryan is almost at 65%. Ryan has a 2:1 TD:Int ratio, last year Winston was 1.7:1. Ryan has a career passer rating of 93.4, last year, Winston was as 92.2. Winston was a 7.5 yards per attempt which matches Ryan's career number. Note, if you remove the fluke 2016 season where Ryan was significantly more productive than any other year, Winston, in a season where he played hurt for much of it, the two are even closer. There's a lot of criticism towards Winston, yet his numbers aren't far off of guys like Ryan, Flacco, and Eli... who all get tons of credit. He's never had a good run game or defense to help like those 3 did, until possibly this year. Winston and the Bucs are in a good situation right now and look to be very productive. Will it happen? Don't know, but the pieces are in place.

I get your point but the fact that manning and flacco are still starting QBs for at least the next couple years is a sign of the QB play in the NFL in general. It seems teams are more willing to have QBs that know the offense inside and out rather than higher skilled hopefuls that need to learn the offense. When a team knows what their QB is, they can build a team around them to compensate or augment the position. They are consistently ok or mediocre game to game. Arrogance and or skill tells the coach he can overcome the QB play as long as it is consistent.
TBayXXXVII 2,117 Posted May 4, 2018 Which is why, as a Bucs fan, I'm happy to hear that Atlanta is happy with a mediocre QB. Makes them easier to beat in the years to come.
cbfalcon 824 Posted May 4, 2018 I was sure this was going to be a thread announcing the NFL was retracting so Tampa residents wouldn't have to watch football anymore.
Kopy 491 Posted May 4, 2018 I was sure this was going to be a thread announcing the NFL was retracting so Tampa residents wouldn't have to watch football anymore. If they combine Miami and Tampa's rosters. They might get to Jacksonville's potential.
TBayXXXVII 2,117 Posted May 4, 2018 Based on our history, contraction would be a reasonable decision.
Mr Neil 63 Posted May 4, 2018 I thought this was going to be a thread about Dirk Koetter getting fired. He is one of the worst play calling offensive minded coaches I have ever seen. As a saints fan every year hes there Im happy bc I know that offense will sputter and never reach potential with him at the helm
cavern 70 Posted May 4, 2018 you really need some leadership abilities in your QB. the "eat a win" speech told me all i need to know about winston. Winston isn't a finished product yet... This is laughable, we pick Ryan and Manning towards the end of a draft or not at all and your going to subtract years and make a never good year player 10 times better. I never said anything about the "end" of their career. Aside from ONE year from Ryan's career, he was always the same QB... which was basically what Winston was last year. Same with Eli. You can point to only 1 year that was an outlier to his norm. Any of those years were no better than Winston last year.

As a saints fan every year hes there Im happy bc I know that offense will sputter and never reach potential with him at the helm LOL. Since becoming the HC in New Orleans, Sean Payton has on 6 winning seasons (in 12 years), while having one of the 3 best QB's in the league, and you have the nerve to talk about never reaching their potential? They've been to 1 Super Bowl. They never won more than 1 playoff game in 5 of their 6 playoff trips.
TBayXXXVII 2,117 Posted May 5, 2018 you really need some leadership abilities in your QB. the "eat a win" speech told me all i need to know about winston. I'm willing to cut him some slack. Before turning 24, Winston started 45 games. Eli had 7, Ryan and Flacco had 16.
